My engine overheated due to a water pump leak. The temperature gauge remained in the normal operating range during my trip which was about 30 miles of mostly highway driving. I had no indication that anything was wrong with my car until it shut off at a stop light.

I was driving and with out warning a loud noise started. The car stopped on the city street and could not be moved. I was in the middle of traffic. This was an unsafe condition. The car was pushed to the curve out of the traffic. . Without warning the engine parts broke down. I had the car tolled to a station to get it fixed. I had to replaced the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, water pump, anti-freeze, serpentine belt, this cost $1,822. 28. That was 09/28/2016. I had only 74,708 miles on the car, not 100,00. The check engine light kept coming on. On 11/07/16, at a Chrysler dealer, I had a diagnosed test done. The tech found that the right cylinder head needs to be replaced. The car had only 75,209 miles. Not 100,00 miles. Is this to soon for those parts to break down and need to be replaced? I always had my car check at the Chrysler dealer for the check ups at the recormended time. I received no warning that any of these parts needed to be changed. No warning. The car just stopped. This is dangerous. There should be a recall on this car. I had just got off the beltway. I could had been killed. The replacement of the right rear cylinder head is going to cost around $5,000 dollars. I don't have that kind of money. This car should be recalled that without warning these parts will breck and stop the car from running. I brought this car brand new, not used, and I always took my car to Chrysler company for the regular check up . I have the repair invoice and the diagnois report, but I can't scan them. I can fax or mail you a copy.

2006 Chrysler Sebring. Consumer writes in regards to oil leak in vehicle engine area. The consumer stated the water pump and timing belt were replaced on January 27, 2015 after which, an oil leak developed. After two crankshaft oil seal replacements the consumer was informed the problem appeared serious enough to contact Chrysler about a further diagnosis. The consumer was able to identify a problem which resulted in a technical service bulletin identifying the problem as crankshaft end play resulting in oil seal performance and leakage. The recommended action was to install a second thrust bearing to eliminate crankshaft vibration/movement.
The contact owns a 2001 Chrysler Sebring. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, she noticed an abnormal rubber smell as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was driven onto the emergency lane and was restarted after approximately one hour. Additionally, the contact added freon to the vehicle. The vehicle was drivable but continued leaking freon. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who indicated that the water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. We were the original owners of this Chrysler Sebring limited 2. 7l. Took the car in for regular service. Oi changes, air filter, tune-ups, you name it. We made sure to keep this car up and the engine running. At 100752 the engine blew. Since the car was out of town we had it towed to a local Chrysler dealership for repairs. They informed us that the engine had sludge build up and the engine would not move. At the recommendation of the dealership we had the engine replaced with a used 2. 7l Chrysler engine. Less than a year later the water pump went so we replace that. We were told that the that second engine also had sludge build up. They replaced the oil and filter. 2 months later that engine blew up as well from the sludge build up. At that point we decided not to throw good money after bad and dumped the car. This is a production defect of the 2. 7l Chrysler engine that was installed in our 2002 Sebring. We kept up our end of the bargain and took the car in for service. Chrysler should pay damages for a faulty engine. This vehicle should have lasted much longer.
On June 3 2012 I heard a knocking sound coming from my engine on the way to church. When I left I had problems getting the car to start. I finally got it started and returned home. The next morning it would not start at all. I called around to see if I could have someone look at it. When I told them the make, model and engine size of my vehicle they informed me that the type of engine that I have are known for failing. It has a 2. 7l engine wich is known for sludge build up. I had the oil change regularly. I found that the water pump was leaking fliud with the oil causing it to fail. Now I have to replace the engine which is going to cost $3000 including labor.
2001 Chrysler Sebring conv - lxi , 2. 7 liter 83,000 miles , water pump quit as working on it realized the pump blew most of the water in to the engine , replaced the timing idler , flushed the engine out , replaced the oil , ran the engine , then replaced to fresh oil , few day later noticed the car was showing low oil causing the light to turn on , checked the oil came out being fine 5 quarts as its supposed to have , replaced oil and filter to be sure all was 100% fine oil light kept coming on at idle moments after the engine be gone to make a very loud rattling sound ,called Chrysler they said this is a typical issue with the model engine and since the car was out of warranty they were not obligated to repair or replace the engine as I researched the internet I notice I am not alone with this same issue there is a very high amount of owners of the 2. 7 liter engine with the same issue of the loud rattling in the bottom of the engine , Chrysler claims it's due to improper oil changes and the engine breaks down due to sludge , I would like to let my car be used as an example for a fare recall as I have no engine sludge and have a valid track record of oil changes at 3,000 or before 3,000 miles with wal-mart here in my town my car was well maintained and has been all over the USA and never once had a major issue of any sort till the pump malfunctioned as it does in many other cars out there but since this issue has come to the car has been parked.
Well the first time my water pump failed,I was on my way to work. Then after a 1400$ repair, I got me vehicle back and after another 5000 miles. I was on my way to work and there was no noise no nothing it just stopped. I had to have it towed. I was told that the connecting rod had gotten hot and broke destroying the block. I was also told it would be a 8,000$ repair job. I was also told it was starved of oil,the temperatures gauge never got hot nothing,my vehicle broke down after 4 blocks of driving.
Antifreeze leaked into the oil due to water pump failure. The oil was contaminated which resulted in sludging of oil. Hence, the upper engine was not properly lubricated. As a result of not being lubricated, the engine failed. Solution: complete engine replacement.
- the contact stated that the water outlet housing failed and all of the water in the engine came out along with a lot of steam. The contact stated that the water pump was replaced and that the gaskets were worn and leaking oil.
Sludge build up in the engine, there is coolant like into the oil line. Which has made the oil spit out from under the head gasket and spit out on top of the motor cover. The water pump and time change needs to be replace when they notice the sludge in the oil pan of the car. They in turn took of the top of the engine and the sludge was just thick and gritty. I was told by a Chrysler technician that Chrysler is aware of the problem with the 2. 7 liter engines.
2001 Chrysler Sebring 2. 7l 24v dohc engine failure- completely dead and left me on highway. Water pump failed, timing chain inside engine broke ruined engine. Had to replace for $8000. 00.
I am a 2003 Chrysler Sebring owner with a 2. 7l engine, right after I bought it of the lot pre-owned it had to be bought back to get checked out because the engine light came on a few times and the water pump had to be replaced. While on the highway it just seized on me, turns out that a rod barring spun in the engine completely totaling the engine and from what im told the water pump and a few more components need to be replace because of the engine, got word from the mechanic at the dealership and there was no build up in the engine the oil was well maintained but was unable to determine what the cause was. I contacted Chrysler and since it fell out of warranty by 8,000 miles the only thing they would do is replace it with a rebuilt engine at the cost of $6,758. 69 but only would pay 50% of that cost. I told them its clearly a defect in the engine and I shouldn't have to pay anything but they will only do 50% and a rebuilt engine.

Absolutely no symptoms prior to the engine suddenly blowing 2 head gaskets. At a previous oil change, I had been told that I had some sludge in my engine and asked would I like to purchase an additive for it? since I had read my owner's manual when I bought the car, I knew that Chrysler did not recommend adding anything to the engine, so I said no. I assumed it was just a sales ploy by the oil change outlet anyway. After having just exited a freeway, my car suddenly began to lose power with absolutely no lights coming on. After the car died, I opened the hood and had oil everywhere. The car was towed to my mechanic of 15 years who told me that both head gaskets had blown, the water pump had gone and that there was sludge all over the inside of my engine. He had never seen anything like it and thinks it is the worst designed engine imaginable. The water pump is located inside the engine. After spending $2600, the top half of my engine has been replaced, but the bottom half still needs to be replaced at an estimated cost of $5300. After driving for about 12 highway miles, my car cannot maintain oil pressure while idling and I have to keep the idle up manually so I don't harm the work we have already done. We replaced 24 lifters, 2 head gaskets, the water pump, 3 oil sending units and various miscellaneous parts. My other car has 300,000 miles on it. I know how to maintain a car. I am grateful it didn't lose power on the freeway I had just exited. I have filed a complaint with the center for auto safety and the mediation group handling this for Chrysler. I am awaiting paperwork from them at the present time.
