The dealer (napleton's river oaks Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram 17225 torrence Ave, lansing, IL 60438) was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 10v008000 (air bags). I have a airbag warning light on my dash, I found out that there was a "safety improvement campaign" j-38 and x-26, NHTSA campaign id number: 10v008000, NHTSA action number: rq09003. I went to my local dealer ( robert loehr ) in cartersville GA and was told that my van was not covered under this "safety improvement campaign" because my VIN was not part of the campaign that I would have to pay out of pocket for the repair. I then called Chrysler and spoke to torie and she said that it was only for vehicle in the "salt belt" but my van's VIN was built in the same time frame as the defective part but because my van VIN was not part of the campaign she would have to have me talk to someone in customer service. I spoke to emily and she stated that because my VIN was not part of the campaign I would have to pay out of pocket. I then spoke to her supervisor mike and told me the same thing but that after I got the repairs made to contact them to see if I was eligible for an reimbursement. It sounds to me that Chrysler knows there is a problem with this sensor but they only want to replace the ones where there it snow and they salt the roads. I live in north georgia and we have snow and they salt the road plus what about people that travel into area (like me) where it snows and they use salt. Chrysler knows there is a problem with this part and should replace it no matter where live. In the letter Chrysler sent to NHTSA they state " however, Chrysler has informed NHTSA that it will provide the modifications described above at no cost" but yet they want me to pay out of pocket for repairs on their defective part. I feel this should be "under the safety act" because Chrysler knows there is a safety problem with my vehicle but refuse to cover it under their "safety improvement campaign".
Be careful of what you read, its not always true. I was on chat with a rep from manufacturer,: Chrysler, this is no recall-see below:2005 Chrysler town and country recall - #10v008000 recall for air bags : frontal : sensor/control module Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2005-2006 Dodge caravan, grand caravan and Chrysler Town & Country vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of connecticut, delaware, iowa, illinois, indiana, kansas, kentucky, massachusetts, maine, maryland, michigan, minnesota, missouri, nebraska, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, north dakota, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, south dakota, tennessee, utah, vermont, virginia, west virginia, wisconsin, alaska and the district of columbia. The front crash sensors may crack under certain environmental conditions and allow water to enter into the sensor. This can cause the sensor to become inoperative and illuminate the airbag warning light. These sensors were added to enhance the performance of the airbag system in certain frontal crashes.

When the ignition was turned to the on position, the air bag warning light illuminated continuously. The failure recurred continuously. Doing some investigation on the NHTSA website I noted the recall that affected this model, year and state of registration. The failure is exactly as described in the bulletin. For some reason Chrysler does not have the vehichle VIN listed as being affected by the recall. Will pursue corrective action at a local dealership.

Bought my 2005 t&c Chrysler minivan in spring of 2009 with a little over 69,000 miles on it. Few months after purchase the red airbag warning light would occassionally come on while at idle or driving rates. No other problems occured and it wasn't happening frequently. By the end of the first year of ownership, the driver side back door lock quit working with the automatic locks, and within a year an a half the driver's side window would occassionally not roll up or down and the front dome lights quit working. Replaced an air conditioner part also. Spent $500 on the front end as well that year. When window failure was more frequent I started researching on the internet about problems that have been common in this make and model of van. On oct 4th 2011, the van failed to start, making a ticking sound, figured battery or altenator. We cleaned battery cables, tried what we could to get it started. The radio and dashlights came on,all the gauges would jump erractically; when we rolled up the passsenger windows radio remained on, however when we rolled up the drivers window the radio and all gauges quit working. We ended up jumping it and were able to drive it home. Had the battery tested and tried a brand new battery to make sure that was the only problem. When we put the battery in and started it, flames shot up from the middle section of the van, just infront of the engine. The panic alarm, the horn, and the windshield wipers where all going off. As soon as we got the battery disconnected the fire went out and alarms and wipers went off. I talked to the nearest Chrysler dealership and from explanation of the various problems they said it sounded like several little problems as opposed to one big electrical problem. I have 3 small children and after the experiences I have had with the van and reading others issues online, I cant wait to get rid of this piece.

Initially, the passenger airbag warning light would come on intermittently after vehicle was started and running for a period of time, and it may turn on and off several times during vehicle use. After vehicle parked and restarted (usually next day), without any apparent reason the warning light would then work correctly (I. E. , during engine start and system checks, warning lights would extinguish). After a few months, the drivers side airbag warning light also started to mimic the same issue (initially less frequent). We contacted dealership to ask about possible recall or issue. They inspected it as part of service/warranty appt, no problems reported to be found. We did ask if they knew of similar issues, but they indicated no. We contacted Chrysler (extended warranty) and they also said no known issues, it was not a warranty issue, and asked if problem possibly related to any accident (but it has not been in any accident). This issue has become more troublesome as the warning lights now activate much more frequently, and then stay active most or entire time vehicle is on and even continue to light up after vehicle parked overnight. Warning lights may then turn off for few days, but will invariably light up for no apparant reason.
I own a 2005 Chrysler town and country minivan. I noticed that there is a recall on the front crash sensor that doesn't start until June, but my airbag warning light is already illuminated. It started lighting up a couple of months ago. When I contacted my local Chrysler dealership, they denied any knowledge of a recall. I called Chrysler directly and was told that I could get the sensor fixed right now, but it would have to be at my own expense. The dealership was going to charge me $130 for diagnostics, when they should already know about the recall. My concern is this: if (god forbid) I happen to be in a crash between now and June, what happens if my airbag doesn't deploy? Chrysler is aware that my sensor is out and is doing nothing. What are my options for ensuring the safety of my vehicle over the course of the next three months, before the "official" recall begins? I truly think this is a sham that Chrysler knows about the problem, but is taking their sweet time in coming up with a solution and fixing our defective vehicles.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chrysler town and country. The contact was driving in rainy weather conditions at various speeds and upon encountering a puddle in the road, the air bag warning indicator began to illuminate. The warning light remained illuminated until the air temperature completely dried out the moisture accumulated internally from the rain. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and repaired under a recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 07v192000 (air bags: frontal: sensor/control module). A few day after the repair, while driving in severe rainy conditions the similar failure recurred. The recall remedy was insufficient. The dealer was notified and they refused to diagnose the vehicle without a charge. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The consistent failure continued to occur. The manufacturer was notified regarding the defect and they were unable to assist. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000. Js.
Air bag warning light would not go off. Had Chrysler dealer diagnose vehicle that both front impact sensors and harness were faulty and needed replacement. I am asking Chrysler to reimburse me for full cost of repair.

The consumer's vehicle was involved in a crash at 55 mph. The vehicle is a 2005 Chrysler town and country. Upon impact, the airbags in the front of the van did not deploy. The point of impact was the front end of the van. The van was hit almost head on. Neither of the front doors of the vehicle would open. The doors had to be pried open to get the passengers out. The driver and the passenger sustained injuries to the neck, ribs, sternum ,and the collar bone. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. The consumer have not contacted Chrysler as of now. There were police and ambulances involved. Police and insurance reports were taken. The consumer has pictures available to view. The van was totaled, and the it was only a month old with less than 1,500 miles. Phone interview update (oct 24, 2005): the air bag warning light was not "on" before the crash. She agreed to send pictures with the follow-up voq form. Updated 11-02-05.
The consumer had taken his eyes off of the road due to a distraction and accidentally hit a stopped vehicle that was in front of him. The seat belt did not hold and the air bag(s) did not deploy. The consumer was injured in the crash. Phone interview update (oct 24, 2005): the accident occurred on an exit ramp, so the vehicle speed was probably too low for the air bag to deploy. There was no warning light on the dash prior to the crash.
