21 problems related to air bag light on have been reported for the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Air bag indicator lights up intermittently indicating a sensor issue. There was already a recall for this issue and according to bin report the issue was corrected, but the issue has continued. The indicator light comes on whether moving or not.
Takata recall- when it is raining or wet outside from snow or humidity the air bag light is on. If it dries out then the light will go off. This happens if the car is driving or stopped and at all times. I have complained previously about this with no response. It has been on and off for the last 3-5 years.
Took a trip south, the air bag light came on while I was driving. When I stopped to eat at a restaurant, and started up the engine, the light was off and eventually came back on. The longer I drove thelonger it stayed on. Now it comes on but not that often. Am I in danger?.
I own a 2006 town and country and the air bag has been illuminated for approximately 10000 miles. I noticed that on rainy days the air bag light would illuminate and on dry days it would go off. Currently it has been on all the time and it never goes out and my car repair man cannot read the code. I looked up the recalls associated with my van and find that my specific VIN is not listed in a recall but I completely believe that the problem is listed in recall 10v008000 but it is not covered according to my repair shop. I am trying to find out what to do regarding this issue. I don't know if it's because I bought it used that maybe it isn't listed in IL and that is why it is not in the recall. I just put $800 in repairs in this car but I feel that if the problem is Chryslers then they should fix it.
When it rains and I'm driving a day or more the airbag light comes on, and stays on until the day after it stops raining. I am affraid they may deploy, given the problem with the possibility of this happening due to existing bad mechenisms. I want this repaired at no cost to me.
Airbag light continues to stay on. This vehicle was first sold in California, therefore it does not automatically apply to the j38- airbag sensor safety bulletin. This could be a serious safety issue that Chrysler should repair at no charge to the customer.
My 2006 Chrysler town and country touring edition with 77,000 miles has had the air bag light on. When I checked online to find out what it means, I found that there was a recall. I set up an appt. At a Chrysler dealership to have it fixed, but found that my car was not included in the recall even though I am having the exact same problem described in the recall. I call Chrysler's 1-800 number and found out that my car was manufactured on may 26, 2006, one month after the April 5, 2006 deadline for the recall. My car is not included in the recall. However, I am still left with the airbag light on and the same problem that the recall outlines. No one at Chrysler was willing to talk with me to remedy the problem. I was told that I would need to repair it at my own expense.
While driving the vechicle the airbag light comes on for periods of time and then goes off. We had it looked at by a mechanic who told us that the front airbag sensors are defective and need to be replaced. I called Chrysler customer care because I know there was a recall issued for this same defect however are VIN # was not among the vehicles recalled. It is clear that my vechicle has the same defect that the vechicles in the recall have. We can not afford to have this fixed on our own and are hoping that by filing this complaint, along with others that I am sure have been filed, Chrysler will extend the recall to all Chrysler town and country that are having this problem. Until then we are taking our chances driving a vechicle that we bought for its safety and reliability. I am dissappointed that Chrysler has not held up their end of the deal in providing good customer care and will shop other makers when it comes time to get another vechicle.
I took Chrysler to dealer for sensor check--parts had to be ordered--at a later date I took vehicle back to have parts installed--I picked car up in the afternoon and as I'm leaving their lot the airbag light went on--I started to go back and the light went out--I turned the corner and the light went on. I stopped in front of the building and went inside. After about 20 minutes I was told it could be wiring --clockspring. I called Chrysler and after going through 2 people I was told Chrysler may or may not pay for this,or part of this but I must have it done by the dealership. I asked how dangerous this was and received no answer. I have checked this problem out and it only happens on turns. I'm the owner of a private garage for over 30 years so I know a little about working on vehicles. Looks like I'm going to repair a safety problem that should be done by Chrysler myself. Shame on Chrysler !!!!.

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler town and country. The vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 10v008000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module). After the recall remedy was performed the air bag warning indicator would intermittently illuminate. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they detected a problem with the front driver side air bag. The technician was unable to determine the specific cause to the repeated failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 51,461.

In March of 2009 we purchased a 2006 Chrysler town&country minivan from a Chrysler dealer with 27k miles on it. I purchased an extended warranty. In the past month I realized the airbag light was on and this week I took it into the dealer for inspection and repair. The dealer contacted me and told me the 2 sensors in the front were rusted and corroded and that they no longer were sending a signal rendering them useless. They told me it would be $401 to fix. I told them I had never heard of airbag sensors corroding and that is sounded like a safety issue. They told me it happens some times. I checked the internet and found that this is a known issue with the 05/06 vans. I called the dealer and told them I was upset that they didn't tell me this was a known issue. They claimed that they never heard of it. Based on what I have read, it sounds like Chrysler is doing a voluntary fix on about 350,000 vehicles. How do I get mine fixed without paying the $400? I already had to pay the dealer $100 just to diagnose the issue and $35 for a rental car because it was not a warranty or recall repair.
The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler town and country van. The driver stated that when he got into his vehicle and started it, the air bag light came on for 5 to 10 minutes after he began driving. The driver also stated that it would not shut off until the vehicle was turned off. The driver contacted the dealer. The failure mileage was 35,000. The current mileage was 35,200.
Air bag light went on in my 2006 Chrysler t&c van, took to dealership to check out. Found out on line previous year 2005 had a recall for exact same problem (over 250,000) vehicles, since my year did not have a recall required to pay 320. 00 for repair. Don't understand, since obviously problem still exists why I had to pay for repairs that were done for cars one year older than mine. Chrysler basically told me since there was no recall it was my problem. If I did not get this fixed I would have had to drive not knowing if airbags would work or work when not needed. Only happens in car in cold weather states corrosion of electrical wire to airbags which I then shorts out sensors.

Airbag light. . . The computer said the right front airbag sensor is bad. . . . There is already a recall for the make, model and year of the vehicle but Chrysler says not for my VIN.
The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the air bag indicator remains illuminated and will not dim. As soon as the vehicle is started, the indicator illuminates. The dealer and manufacturer have not been notified. The failure mileage was 27,700.
The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler town and country. While driving 5 mph the front brakes started to grind whenever the brakes were applied. The contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer four times in the past two years to have the front brakes replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the braking system was too small for the vehicle which caused the front brakes to wear faster. The dealer also replaced the clock spring in the air bag since the air bag light stayed on continuously. The contact is concerned about the risk safety risk. The failure mileage was 36,100. Jo.
Vehicle has about 4000 miles on it. Airbag light illuminates intermittently when turning the steering wheel. This happens several times during a drive, and sometimes the light seems to turn on and off randomly, but it's fairly repeatable with turning the wheel. I am sending this complaint because I have seen this problem on several Chrysler minivans starting with a 1998 model and I am surprised that this systemic safety problem has not been fixed in at least eight years.
The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 55 mph the air bag light came on. The contact stated that the air bag light stayed on. The part had been on back order since April 2010. The failure mileage was unknown. The current current mileage was 121,000.
