2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2019

My vehicle will shut off while I'm driving. It's been an ongoing issue. There are no lights that come on, on the dashboard that indicate any error, except the antilock break light will occasionally light up. I could be driving slow or fast, it makes no difference, it will just shut off, and the power steering and brakes lose power and don't work. This is very dangerous and can easily cause an accident. I have done some research online and have also seen this exact same problem with hundreds upon hundreds of other consumers with the same make and model. People have taken their vehicles to Chrysler dealerships and mechanics and no one can figure out the cause. This is a huge safety issue. I have small children, 2 still in carseats, and my youngest who is 1 is handicap. I am scared to drive it. I still owe $10,000 on my auto loan for this car, so I am stuck with it. It seems like this is a defective vehicle, since so many others are having the same mystery safety issue.

9 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2017

My Chrysler town and country had performed the recall on the ignition switch however my van still shuts down while driving. At first it started upon morning when first starting out the day, but now it shuts off even after 45 minutes of driving the vehicle causing me to loose control of the steering and having to be cautious so that I wont be rear ended or worse. I have taking it in to be diagnosed but the technicians after having the van hooked up to their diagnostic machine are still unable to see anything wrong. No error codes are showing. Also now, while parked and the engine off with no keys. . . My doors will just open by themselves or automatically lock. It did it yesterday morning however my car was running, the van locked sounding my alarm that sounded as if I had pressed the key to lock. I hope that someone can call or email me to give an explanation what could be the problem as well as how I can resolve this problem,.

Continuation of 02/01/2016 report: with the initial ignition, this car's engine just stopped and lost all power while leaving our driveway, back in 2010. 13 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2016

Unexpected engine shutdown while in motion driving resulting in loss of brakes or steering. This has been happening for 5 years with many visits to the dealership and various repairs, none of which has resulted in returning the vehicle to us in a safe state. My wife and I are 79 years of age and have no faith in the vehicle which we purchased new with the extra extended warranty.

14 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2015

The tipm is a cause of the vehicle horn honking, wipers moving on their own, wiper fluid spraying, and the lights flashing by themselves. I have had the vehicle randomly stall by itself on the highway while my wife was driving it and this has happened several times. These issues seem to mysteriously go away when I try to diagnose the issue. Last week the battery died and because of it being a few years old and now being in the winter, I decided to replace it only to have it die again a day later. Took the vehicle to a mechanic who tested the charging system and said it was all good. Then proceeded to do a parasitic draw test where he determined that the tipm was causing the issues. I did some google searches and found that this is a wide stream problem with many owners of various Chrysler vehicles having the same issue. This is not safe especially when the vehicle shuts down while driving it and there are no power brakes or steering capabilities. A person could end up in a terrible accident or even be killed not to mention other drivers being at risk also. Doesn't seem to make much sense that Chrysler is dragging this on and not doing anything not to mention that I can't even order the part because it's on a national back order. This has happened several times in the last year and a few times last year but the tech was unable to correctly diagnose the issue.

16 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2015

I was driving down the road going between 35-40 mph and my car shut off. The radio and headlights were working but the engine was off, the power steering stopped working and the brakes were not working correctly. I tried to steer on the road but was approaching a stop sign where cross traffic did not stop. So I ended up pulling into the front yard of someone's house to slow and finally stop the car. The front yard was large so luckily I did not hit any mailboxes or houses. My car had shut off in 3 other incidences but I wasn't going as fast and I was in a residential neighborhood so I was able to let the car roll to a stop and no one was hurt. We use this car as a family car and I am worried that someone is going to get hurt if this happens again. I have called the closest dealership several times and Chrysler and no one seems to be able to help me. They all of told me that nothing can be done without a certain part that is not available. When I call the dealership they forward me to Chrysler and when I spoke to the person at Chrysler they forward me to the dealership.

17 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2015

Just yesterday "3-7-2015" driving at a slow speed my vehicle shut off, this is the 3rd time that it happened. Driving at a higher speed which I need to do makes this very dangerous. I did contact Chrysler group recall assistance on Feb 24 of this year and talked to a alicia and had a very valuable discussion, she told me to go to our closest Chrysler dealer and replace the part, pay for it and Chrysler would refund and when the new part was available to install that. I went to the dealer and they would not install it unless they got approval from the Chrysler engineers. The dealer was tempe Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep in tempe, az. I believe alicia did speak with someone at that dealer. I have tried to contact your office several times and listened to you voice mail for hours without being connected. I am very concerned as our lives are at risk until this is repaired and Chrysler is responsibly.

18 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2015

While travelling at a reduced rate of speed, my 2008 town and country van shuts off. This has happened several times and has happended multiple times in a day. It is very frightening to be driving along and the engine shuts off and the vehicle loses all power. I have been told that my vehicle is under a ignition node recall. Today, I called my dealer and the representative claimed to have never heard of the town and country shutting off while driving. I have seen many instances of this on the internet and have trouble believing the dealer has not heard of this. I am concerned for our safety while driving this car. Please advise as to what action I should take.

19 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2015

I experienced an unintended engine shutoff at 40 mph. I pushed the gear selector from "drive" into "neutral" to get a quick restart. No fault lights showed up on my instrument cluster. This happened once more in February and once more in March of this year. I received an l25 recall letter from Chrysler in the summer of 2014. What is taking so long to get replacement parts? can't you encourage them to complete this recall ASAP?.

20 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2015

I have filed a complaint about previous instances but it happened again. I will continue to do so until it gets fixed or Chrysler can provide me with a safe vehicle for my family to drive. Same story as always. I was driving heading to a stop light and car shut off. A bunch of lights on the dash flickered then the car died. Engine light stays on. Put my hazards on while in the middle of the street. Turned the car off and on several times then it finally worked. It then happened again 2 minutes later while going down a hill. Got it started again. Then happened again on a busy road. I sat there for 15 minutes trying to get it going. Which I finally did but now missing work because I am terrified to drive on the highway.

Multiple times the engine shuts down while driving. No power breaks, no power steering, possibly no headlights, possibly no airbag. . . Have to throw into neutral and attempt to restart. Doesn't always re-start every time. Very dangerous. Taken to two Chrysler dealerships since the recall and they say that our VIN is not on the recall list. No idea what to do. No keys on keyring. Am afraid to drive this car. Just purchased car in early February. First time it shut down, I was downtown, in traffic. Failure Date: 10/11/2013

I was driving on the highway with my 3 year old. Dash lights started flashing and engine revved. I tried slowing down and had a hard time braking. Then my vehicle shut off. I was able to keep turning it on and off and gliding off the highway. I took it to a dealer who after charging me said nothing seemed wrong but they changed a relay. This was October. Now today in January the same exact thing happened. In the car with my son. Lights flashed and car shut off.

28 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2012

While driving down the road the road I hear a light click and the engine shuts down, and steering becomes locked and I have to put the car in park to restart the vehicle. When this continued to happen after I heard the click I would look down and the key has moved from the on position to the acc position. This has happened multiple times since 11-14-2012 and happend a lot during 2013, I finally called Chrysler in August of 2013 when the van shut down while driving and one time while sitting in line at the bank and that same day while making a left hand turn and almost got hit as lots of traffic during rush hour. I took the van to avondale Dodge and they finally replaced the fuel pump as they found it was cracked this was in October of 2013, so my claim was closed with Chrysler. Van shut down again on 12-22-13 while looking at christimas lights in my community. There have been several other incidents since 12-22-13 that my van has shut down the latest being on 6-4-14 while driving on the 101 freeway going 65 miles an hour. I had to think quick and I remember that my son who has a 2005 Dodge ram had this same issue with his truck and he told me to put the transmission into neutral and restart the van as it was coasting and then put it back into drive. The van restarted and I was able to get to my destination and back home without issue. I called Chrysler on 6-6-14 to report that the issue continues and that it happened on the freeway this last time. They started a new claim and had me take it back to larry h. Miller avondale Dodge. The dealer can still not recreate the issue! I fear for the safety of myself, children and grandchildren.
