Our van just stops running when driving. This causes the power steering and brakes to stop working, no warning at all anything is happening. This has happened several times in the last three days. I coasted to side of road once. I almost rear-ended and was almost rear-ended in same incident today due to sudden shut off. I fear for my life and family safety. I have a son who travels in a wheelchair in the vehicle and our only transportation. My son cannot go to school now as he has no transportation to get there since this is his wheelchair van. He cannot ride in a regular vehicle, he must ride in his powerchair due to mobility and specialized seating. Two weeks ago, vehicle acted like we didn't have traction and wheels locked up. That has happened several times. Then two days before the stop running started the traction control light came on but it was perfectly normal driving situations. Light turned off after car was turned off and hasn't come back on. No warning lights or other alerts have come on in van. Very costly, tipm system was replaced November 2020 due to issues with vehicle power issues on not starting fully and loosing power.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? while driving the entire engine and system shut off. All powered functions ceased and I was left to pull over with no power steering, the brakes didn't respond as well, signals weren't working either. Once pulled over I was able to restart the car with no issue, but the vehicle has continued to randomly lose all power, it seems to occur more frequently when when braking or slowing down. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? it was put at great risk as the car could have lost control and I was at limited capacity to correct with no engine power or other powered functions. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no warning.
Integrated fuel pump relay went out and horn started sounding and wouldn't turn off. Fuel pump relay won't work and horn relay won't turn off.
My Chrysler town and country has serious electrical issues. It started with the radio shutting off and restarting by itself, which is not a serious issue at all. But yesterday, at a red light, the radio shut off and so did the car. The engine stopped working, the accelerator pedal would not respond. It was terrifying. Thankfully we were at a red light, but if this were to happen on a busy highway, or even just on a regular street with traffic, it could be a life threatening situation. From what I have researched online, this is a common problem with Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge cars. Legal action has been taken and class action lawsuits were filed to address this matter. The center for auto safety (cas) asked this very own NHTSA to open an investigation into faulty tipm, which seem to be the problem that causes these cars to very dangerously completely shut off even while driving, causing drivers to lose control of the steering and of the brakes. The cas estimated 7 million Chrysler vehicles have power issues related to the tipm. One month after receiving a class action lawsuit, Chrysler issued a recall for 189. 000 Dodge durango and Jeep grand cherokee with bad tipms. 189. 000. Out of seven million. This is absurd. It seems as if Chrysler is waiting for someone to be killed due to this issue so they can take it seriously and actually issue the recall to all the cars that have this problem, not a tiny fraction of them and not only because it is directly related to a lawsuit. Unfortunately, despite multiple claims throughout the years that not only this is a common problem with Chrysler, but that the corporation is well aware of it and negligently refuses to address the issues, the NHTSA rejected the cas petition to investigate this problem. Proof is definitely not amiss, as a quick internet research will produce thousands upon thousands of reports of the same problem on the same car. This needs to be a recall urgently, and not only after someone dies.
Over a year ago, we began to have a problem in which the vehicle would, on occasion, not start. The “check engine” light would come on, along with another icon that looked like a lightning bolt between two inverted parentheses. Sometimes it started up on the first try, other times it would take a few attempts, and sometimes it would not start at all. Then a new wrinkle emerged: the van conked out on us a few times while on the road -- once while merging onto a highway. We now had a serious (and potentially dangerous) problem on our hands. We had the fuel pump replaced, but the problem persisted. I took the van to our local Chrysler dealership to have them figure it out. They replaced the throttle body and cleaned the fuel injectors and fuel system. I drove the car home without incident, but the following morning, I tried to start it, and the same old situation emerged — the engine cranked but never turned over. I then had it towed back to the dealer for another round of diagnostics. I mentioned that I had seen on the internet about a possible faulty totally integrated power module (tipm), an issue in various Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/ram products. Later they called saying the battery was the problem (even though they earlier reported that the battery was okay), and had nothing to do with the tipm. For about a week, the van is started up without a hitch, but then same old hesitating-before-starting situation reared its ugly head, albeit briefly. It is only a matter of time before it stalls out again in traffic. These vehicles should be recalled and the tipm needs to be replaced.
Both power sliding doors are malfunctioning. The will not close when using the remote on the key fob or the buttons inside the cabin. There is also no visual (lights) or sound signal alerting us to the failure of the door operation. The door remained open after passengers exiting the vehicle while in public parking lots and at our residence. Intermittently the power sliding doors stop working at all and do not open all the way and get stuck half way opened causing a safety hazard for my family members.
On occasion at least four different times in the past two months, my vehicle has completely shut off while I am driving it. In an instant, a warning comes on my dash that has a lightening bolt, the engine and all electrical/power shuts off, the wheel locks, and I am only able to brake. I have taken it to the dealership where they charged me $100 to find what the issue was, even though unsuccessful. They said because the vehicle showed no codes, they didn’t know the reason for the malfunction, and sent me home. I called Chrysler recall and they said because there are no open recalls, they are unable to help me. When searching online, I see a lot of people have had this exact same issue but no one helps them fix it. Lawsuits have emerged. Accidents have happened. I have three small children who rely on me and my vehicle. It is completely unsafe for us to drive and for others around us on the road. No one will help diagnose or fix the problem. I need help fast! please help me.
On multiple occasions while driving, the vehicle has simply powered itself off without warning. In addition to the engine cutting off, all interior features and lights also lose power. To restart the vehicle, you must remove the key from the ignition, put the car in park, and then put the key back in with your foot on the brake. This is incredibly dangerous. Diagnostic error codes do not capture the cause of the issue.
The rear passenger sliding door lock actuator has failed. There is a loud buzzing noise when the door unlocks. I was told eventually the lock will fail entirely which is a huge safety risk. There would be the potential for someone to steal the car or worse.
The vans power would flicker on and off multiple times. The windshield wipers would turn on and off. The radio on and off. All dash lights on and off. Then driving 26mph one day it did this and the whole engine shut off with the keys in the ignition while driving. I lost all power, power steering, and brakes! battery was replaced and the issues kept getting worse.
Van periodically stalls when driving (no warning lights come on), luckily it has been on local roads and not an interstate. It has happened at least 6-7 times in the last six months. I've had it in twice to our regular shop. They replaced the battery first, and then suggested we take to the dealer (as they had recently sent a durago to dealer for same problem). Dealer replaced ther, ostat and promised that was the problem. Still doing it. I'm afraid to drive this vehicle, it's not safe! searches have revealed many consumers with the same problem. It last happened 3/22/21.
The contact owns a 2013 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 mph uphill, the vehicle independently stopped. The vehicle was shifted into reverse(r) and the vehicle inadvertently drove forward. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic with the check engine warning light illuminated. The mechanic replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, and alternator. The mechanic stated there might also be a failure with the tipm. The vehicle was also towed to another independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined there was a failure with the fuel line connector and an abnormal clicking noise. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The car was purchased new in 2012. As of today the actual mileage on the car is only 9,761. The original buyers of the car returned it to the dealer 5 times for no start or engine dying . The tipm was replaced under a recall on the second visit, but the other 4 times the dealer could not repair because they could not duplicate the symptoms. I recently purchased the car not knowing of the history. On the fourth start, engine would crank but not run. After the 6th attempt, it sprang to life. I drove it 60 milesto my home but would not start again. It appears to have a hard failure at last. The sellers are now in their 80s and were afraid to drive it and be stranded. This is a true definition of a lemon. The car was to replace my grand caravan which has always been reliable. . After delivery of the car, I was given the full service history so I can verify what I said above. I am an engineer and a ase certified master mechanic.
For the third time the vehicle has shut off while driving on the highway, losing all power steering causing a safety issue. The automatic lights have also shut off multiple times at night while near and passing other cars. We have almost been struck due to these conditions.
Wireless ignition nod car has problem starting won't start have to push key in turn on and off jiggle it around to get started parked. Sometimes once started would turn engine off have to play with ignition fob again to get started happens every time I try to start vehicle.
The tipm is bad causing a fpr problem, causing cold starts or no start as well as stalling or a complete power drain of a brand new battery purchased 11. 22. 20 this should be a recall.
After the vehicle is turned off, the tipm continues to run the fuel pump.
Problem begins with random ding, all dashboard lights come on, speedometer/fuel gauge/tachometer do not function at all, turn signals & hazards don't work, wipers turn on by themselves for a few swipes and then go back off. This lasts a few seconds and goes back to normal. Reoccurs randomly, lasting from 10 seconds to a full day of driving. It doesn't matter if the van is moving or still, just started or been running- it happens very randomly. Yesterday, I started the van and all dash lights were lit, no gauges worked, and turn signals & hazards did not work for several hours. Today I started it and after driving about 5 minutes, fixed itself and went back to normal.
My 2013 town n country van is having an overheating problem and now I have been told it has blown head gaskets and needs a possible new motor. It is only 7 years old how is this possible. It has not been misused.
I was driving and the van shut off and lost all power when going 60 mph. I lost control off the brakes, power steering, all electrical and engine power was gone.
When driving vehicle, engine suddenly dies and most times will not start. Engine will sometimes start and most times will not. Further investigation finds that fuel pump relay is not always working. This is extremely dangerous when this occurs while driving and steering and braking become very difficult.
The engine seizes without warning. It simply shuts off. This effectively limits both the breaking and the power steering. This is dangerous as there are no warning light indicators, no audible notifications, no error codes. Going 70 mph we were nearly killed when the motor died and we lost our breaking and steering ability. This has happened on multiple occasions with no rhyme nor reason. Long trips or short, fast or slow, interstate or in town. It needs to be addressed as this is a major issue. A cursory glance at internet forums will reveal that mine is not simply an isolated event.
While driving van shut down. All electoral worked but no brakes or power steering. Like the key. Was in acc not on.
The doors lock and trunk doesn't take the lock. Sound front suspension, front seat adjustment, can't use hand free system.
My engine light keeps appearing after almost 3 years of owning this vehicle. It usually occurs when I turn on the heating system and have already been in motion for awhile. Typically while driving on the highway. The last occurrence was city driving but again when the heating system was turned on. I have my vehicle at the shop again and the mechanic is saying it is something regarding the oil. Something about a vacuum. I also assume there is something wrong with the electrical system. Within the first few days of owning my vehicle it was back at the dealership for 2 weeks. The radio always turns off on it's own and some of the dash components. Which it still does almost 3 years into owning this vehicle.
For the second time in about 4 years, the left rear door has failed unexpectedly. The door is used normally and just stopped working. We stopped at a store and the left rear door did not work at all. It had worked earlier in the day. There is no damage to the door and nothing happened to the door to believe it would be the cause of the failure.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact veered to the shoulder of the road turned the vehicle off waited for about 5 min turned the vehicle back on and all warning light illuminated on the dashboard and the vehicle experienced the same failure interminely. The contact managed to drive the vehicle to the independent meachich who diagnosed the vehicle but was unable to determine the failure. The dealer palmen motors Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram 5431 75th st, kenosha, WI 53142 (262) 671-1935 was contacted and informed the contact that the tipm needed to be replaced and referenced campaign number 14v530000(electrical system) as a possible caused of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure reuccred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approxmently 17,000. Ck.
My vehicle shuts down randomly. I can be going 55mph, 45 mph, 35mph, 25mph, 10mph, at a stop light, as well as turning, it has happened during any and all of those. No turn signals, power steering, brakes. Been happening months. 1 dealer and 2 mechanics cannot find any issue. Occured 7 times today in a 3 mile round trip.
Van will shut off while driving between the speeds of 20 to 40. No warnings or signs just stops running. We have had the van scanned and no codes or issues the tech had us replace the batter but the issue is still occurring and with more research on the web this is a common problem with no solution. This is happened multiple times and is very dangerous. We purchased the van used and there seems to be no recalls for it.
This is the second time this issue has occurred while driving with my family. The first time, my wife was taking a left turn and the vehicle completely shut off. We towed the vehicle to the shop, and no codes popped in the diagnostic system or anything. They suggested changing spark plugs, cleaning filter, etc. . . $450 later. Today I was driving the vehicle (after buying a brand new battery) going around 40-50 mph, and the vehicle shut off completely. Thank god I was able to pull off the road. There are no computer codes, and I'm not sure what to do. This isn't safe, and it's scary to drive.
I'm not sure what exactly happened, the vehicle is pending investigation. I attempted to stop the vehicle, pressing the brakes down as hard as possible, and the vehicle wouldn't stop. The other vehicle was hit from behind at a light I was probably going around 40 mph. Also, when we first bought the vehicle it had a habit of turning off while driving. Finally got that fixed. It turned out to be the master power cylinder or something like that.
The telematics module goes bad in these models. Loosing all gauges and wiper control without warning. This often results in costly diagnostics that leave the driver in an unsafe vehicle. The vehicle will still drive and operate. This can happen in motion or stationary.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that he has issues with his fob. First the vehicle wont start, then start on the second try. Then the fob will be turned all the way to the right then slightly back and it will start. Finally the vehicle will start like it should with the fob inserted like it should. The dealer livonia Chrysler Jeep 30777 Plymouth rd, livonia, mi 48150 (734) 525-5000 told the contact to bring the vehicle in for a diagnostic test for a charge and there was no recall. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall also or open campaign. They then referred the contact to call NHTSA. The failure mileage was 90,000. Tf.
My wife was driving 40 mph and the engine turned off. It was 5 pm and rush hour with cars all around her. She noticed a walgreens coming on her right. She had no turn signal to alert the driver behind her. My wife tried to slow down to turn but realized that she had no brakes. She turned into the parking lot and had no power steering. She had to use the emergency brake to stop. My wife had both my sons in the car with her. She then put the car in park and was able to turn the car back on. This has happened two times before this. Each time I have brought it to the dealer and they say there is nothing showing up and it doesn't do it when they drive the vehicle. Chrysler was contacted on 4/1/19 and they issued a case number 58294804. They asked if I wanted to get it fixed or a buyback. I said buyback. I called on 4/3/19 to check the status and they said they are still investigating.
I was driving today I lost power to the radio and to the dash cluster and all the waring lights came on the wipers came on and you couldn't turn them off and the van stayed running but you didn't know how fast you were going then everything would come back on normal then it would go crazy again it's in the dealership now.
