3 Cruise Control problem of the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/05/2019

I noticed that at random times the airbag light would illuminate, even while there was no one in the seat. I called the dealership and took it in but because at the time it was not on, they said they could not do anything about it. Then after some time with the airbag light going on and off the cruise control will no longer work. It does not even recognize that you are pressing the button. Dealership was also notified in this case, and because my warranty expired at 60000 miles and the vehicle is at 67000 it is not covered. It does not matter if the vehicle speed, the airbag lights just go on and off. It does not always come on.

My steering controls do not work. The steering wheel controls dont work and cruise control does not work. The controls for the speedometer for digital use do not work. There is only 36000 miles on the car and the part to fix is unavailable. The question is why no recall when u cant order the part so obviously everyone is having an issue and this not working could have prevented 2 accidents that have occurred had the horn worked like it should.

8 Cruise Control problem of the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/23/2018

I was traveling this Saturday on the highway. The cruise control was set at 72 miles per hour. The car was in a severe downpour. I disengaged the cruise control with the brake petal and reduced my speed to 45 miles per hour. Visibility was limited. I was looking for an exit to pull over and wait until the thunderstorm had passed. Since I was not using the cruise control, I pressed the stop button. Then I pressed the on/off button. The cruise control light on the dash did not disappear. In was concentrating on driving, staying in the lane and away from other traffic. The downpour was intense. I pressed the on/off button a second time. To my amazement and concern, the car entered overdrive and began increasing speed rapidly when I was trying to maintain my bearing and slow reasonable speed. I am an experienced driver. Any other person would have limited control of the vehicle. Quite possibly, running off the road into a ditch or tree. I sincerely believe a recall should be issued by the car manufacture to correct the severe defect. This episode clearly had my attention.

9 Cruise Control problem of the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/04/2018

The cruise control button doesn't always turn the cruise control on or off. I sometimes have to use the break to turn it off. When turning it off, the cancel and even the off button don't do anything. I have the same issues when I'm trying to turn it on. The button to make it go faster or slow down seem to work. It's the on/off and the cancel buttons that don't seem to work. I put today's date below, but it's always been like this. It also happens at a variety of speeds.

11 Cruise Control problem of the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/20/2018

Driving on interstate with cruise control on. Pressed on gas to pass vehicle and when I let off of gas, vehicle kept accelerating. Stepped on brake multiple times and turned cruise control off & vehicle still accelerated up to 92 mph. A red lightening bolt like item showed on the display. Finally, after multiple attempts, the cruise control disengaged. There is a recall through Chrysler for this very issue but the Town & Country is not part of the recall. Dealer said there is no code that shows up so they don't know what to do about it. Contacted Chrysler and they said they would get back to me and suggested I not use cruise control (wasn't planning on use it!). I told them that not using cruise control is okay temporarily but is not a permanent fix.

12 Cruise Control problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Randomly loses power, sometimes a split second, other times a complete shut down and doesn't let key go. Sometimes it causes things to stop working, like cruise control. More often when lights are on and other things used, like a/c or turn signals. Sometimes when only lights are used, and sometimes lights not even on.

This happen whether the van is in motion or stationary. 2. ) starter will rotate the engine but engine will not fire. This is very infrequent but has gotten a little worse. Engine will eventually start and run fine. And the next time it needs to start it will without issue. Also, one time during the same day that this happened, the engine started but then immediately died. It started and ran fine after that. Van was always stationary. 3. )center mounted rear brake light will look very dim or not work at all one day, and then work the next. Van was in motion or stationary. 4. )cruise control will not engage and then it will. This was happening about a year ago but has not happened lately. Van was in motion. 15 Cruise Control problem of the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/28/2016

"takata recall". . . I bought 2016 Chrysler Town & Country touring couple of months back & it's have 27,500 miles on it. Since I start driving this car it's having an issue with shifting the gears. The rpm goes up to 4000 to 5000 rpm & then it's start shifting the gears also when I drive the car on highway and put car on cruise control the rpm stays near by 3000 to 4000rpm. When I press the accelerator it's never take quick pick it's always take long time for pick the speed and the engine or transmission make some heavy noise. I took the car at Chrysler dealership & as per them there is no problem at all but seriously I'm not sure they checked my car properly or not. As per me the gear is not shifting smoothly & quickly as it's supposed to be.

16 Cruise Control problem of the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/07/2016

Cruise control does not hold a steady speed on hills, even small hills like we have in michigan. The speed drops 3-4 mph as it goes uphill (very unsafe for those traveling behind us), then it downshifts and accelerates 5-7 mph (very unsafe for those traveling in front of us). Every time the vehicle has been in the dealership I mentioned it. I called Chrysler (I taught automotive so I have graduate connections at Chrysler). Their answer is that is normal. No other vehicle that I have owned, ever, had this problem, all the way back to the eighties. I have talked with others with the same year vehicle and they have the same problem.

17 Cruise Control problem of the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/16/2016

On November 16, 2016 I was driving my wife's 2012 Chrysler Town & Country back from school on the NJ parkway using the cruise control function. As I approached the back of a slower moving semi-truck I pushed the off button for the cruise control as I had normally done in the past. The van did not stop its speed. I pressed the brakes which is another way that the cruise control turns off, that did not work either. I was slamming on the brakes coming up on traffic at a high rate of speed and as the brakes slowed the car the accelerator would hasten my vehicle back to the speed that the cruise control was set at. It was the scariest moments in my life. I had used my quick reflexes to pull over to the side of the parkway, but the van's engine would not stop accelerating. I finally got the van slow enough to put the emergency brake on while my foot was on the regular brake, but the cruise control was still accelerating the engine. I then turned the vehicle off when the van was stationary. A few minutes later I turned the van back on to see if the cruise control was still malfunctioning and it began to accelerate again. I waited until I heard a noise in the engine that sounded like a switch turning off, I then turned the vehicle back on and the car acted normal. I had a scheduled appointment with pine belt Chrysler Jeep service set for November 23, 2016. I dropped the vehicle off in the morning to be examined, but unfortunately I had a wake for my grandmother who passed away that week and they did not get to even look at the cruise control issue. I took the vehicle back and inertia set in over time, plus they were going to charge me a diagnostic fee to look at the car malfunction. I did not bring it back again for that service since money was tight at the time and I have not tried to use the cruise control function in the car since that almost deadly time.

18 Cruise Control problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/18/2016

All warning lights on dash board light up while driving. Wipers come on(won't shut off), if cruise control is on gears won't change. Happens on city street and highway. Purchased in 2014 has been checked 3 times. Temporary fix 2 times. Third time I was told the best guess would cost $1,000. 00. Emphasized that this is a guess. When I stop the vehicle and take the key out and put it back in and restart the car it helps.

19 Cruise Control problem of the 2009 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/28/2016

After several hours of driving on interstates at the various legal speed limits from central pennsylvania to massachusetts, the dashboard warning chime started, the information display showed that the blind spot detection system was inoperative and then the transmission down shifted to 3 resulting in excessive engine revs. Cruise control was engaged at the time, but the car was not going down a hill. The driver used the +/- shift control to return the car to gear 6. At the same time, the tire pressure monitor system said that it had failed and then recovered after five minutes. Eventually, the tpm system recovered as did the blind spot detection system. All of these problems have happened in the past individually, but on this trip they all happened at once. The car dealer could not detect any problem.

While heading to my son's hockey tournament in michigan's up with a van loaded with the entire family, I was traveling approximately 65 mph when the vehicle began to accelerate for no apparent reason. I attempted to turn off the cruise by pushing the coast button, I hit the breaks hoping that would stop the acceleration (it didn't) after accelerating to 80+ mph, I broke the cruise control lever off the steering column and pulled onto the shoulder. Eventually, the van slowed and the engine rpm's dropped. It was a hellava white knuckle ride and we were all glad it was over. Haven't tried the cruise control since.

23 Cruise Control problem of the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/25/2014

On November 25 at 4:30pm, I was driving on route 80 going westbound approaching exits 27 a and b in northern new jersey. I was planning to use exit 26 and gently accelerated my town and country van in order to pass a vehicle to my right and transition to the right lane in order to exit. After passing the vehicle, I removed my foot from the gas pedal and my car unexpectedly continued to accelerate. I immediately applied the brake somewhat forcefully in order to stop the acceleration. Upon removing my foot from the brake, the car again accelerated under its own power. I quickly scanned the dashboard to see if I was accidentally triggering a function such as cruise control. I noticed a red lightning bolt symbol illuminated, which indicates a malfunction with the electronic throttle control. I was able to apply the brake forcefully enough to use the exit ramp. As I approached the end of the exit ramp the car seemed to cease its attempt to accelerate and I was able to pull into a nearby gas station, park the vehicle, and turn it off. After restarting the vehicle the warning symbol was no longer present and the car seemed to be operating normally. I immediately took the vehicle to the johnson Dodge dealership where it was purchased. They accepted the vehicle for diagnostic testing but were not able to find any computer or electrical malfunction. They instructed me to pick up the vehicle the next morning and the service staff member dennis could not provide any information about the malfunction and theorized that my rubber floor mats must have been stuck on the gas pedal during the incident. No other explanation or official paperwork was provided by the dealership. This incident was also reported to an official Chrysler customer service representative (erin; employee #ea704). As of this time, a replacement vehicle has been requested.

24 Cruise Control problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/16/2014

The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated while driving 65 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle accelerated independently. The vehicle was merged to the shoulder and the contact engaged the service brakes. However, the brakes failed to engage and the vehicle continued to rev. The contact mentioned that the vehicle stalled after placing the key into auxiliary mode but the failure recurred once the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure but decided to install a recorder on the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving 35 mph. All lights on the instrumental panel illuminated, and the door locks, air conditioning and radio failed. The dealer analyzed the recording and diagnosed that the win module would need to be replaced. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 11v139000 (electrical system). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

25 Cruise Control problem of the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country

26 Cruise Control problem of the 2013 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/15/2014

Life threatening situation occurred while driving our 2013 Chrysler town and country minivan. We were traveling on the new york state thruway, utilizing the cruise control and as we attempted to pass a tractor trailer the accelerator stuck. My husband was driving and had lost total control of the vehicle other than steering. We were traveling at 65 mph. Our 9 year old was in the car and began to panic and cry. We frantically tried to remedy the situation which lasted 30-40 seconds then resolved on its own. Thank goodness there were no cars in our immediate path or we would have reared ended them or been forced to drive into the median.

There are about 10 to 12 times that I have tried to engage my cruise control and it would not come on. 30 Cruise Control problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/17/2012

While traveling on four lane stretch of us23 south (north of au gres, mi) using cruise control, a vehicle approached from behind. I switched lanes hit the brakes to coast and the car decelerated. The other vehicle passed on my left after which, I hit the resume/accelerate function on the cruise control (a quick up push of the lever). The engine revved to 4-5,000 rpm to resume cruise speed of 55mph but once 55 was reached, the engine did not slow down. I applied the brakes and the engine did not slow down. I pumped brakes, pumped accelerator, pushed the cruise off button multiple times pushed the cruise control to decelerate multiple times. Nothing slowed the acceleration. I pressed the brakes and the car continued to accelerate. Finally I put the car in neutral and with the car continuing to rev at 4-5000rpm, I coasted to the side. I turned the car off and then back on and the car engine went right back to the same rpm. I turned the car off again and waited approx. Two minutes and when I restarted, it functioned normally. I have not tried the cruise control since. I have set an appointment with shuman Chrysler in walled lake, mi and they said they have never heard of this type of incident before. However I did see a similar incident with a quick internet search. This is a very dangerous situation. I can see how others driving could have had much worse results (think about the Toyota incidents). Please contact me for additional information and if you would like to inspect the car before it goes to the dealership. My wife and I are still driving the car, but not using the cruise control of course.

34 Cruise Control problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/30/2010

This car has been nothing but problems since the moment I bought it. It is so aggravating that Chrysler won't own up to the issues with these cars. Aside from the multiple recalls this car has had in three years, the break system is awful. I had replaced the front breaks and rotors around 28000 miles (maybe earlier I can't remember). Now the back breaks are shot and once again, I will need breaks and rotors that will cost me $375 according to the dealer. My car has 38,000 miles on it. I have owned Mini vans in the past and many cars and never have I had to replace both front and rear break pads/rotors this soon. My tires are so bald that all four need replacing. Again, I have never had to replace tires this soon on any of my vehicles over the years. The radio sometimes will not come on or will go black. The factory battery needed replacing at 30,000 miles which was extremely unusual as well. The side doors need to manually be closed when exiting vehicle because if I use the automatic switch, they bounce back. I have come out of stores with my doors wide open. When using the cruise control on the highway, the car with suddenly accelerate with rpms going into the red zone. Only way to stop it is to turn off cruise control. This morning on my way to work pulling out of my neighborhood I heard a grinding sound as the car began breaking on its own. Meanwhile the ebs and abs lights came on. I pulled over, shut off the car and turned it back on. Drove up the road and lights are still on. This car is junk all around. I have only had it for three years, still have a car payment. Ridiculous. I may just lease next time. That way Chrysler can pay for repairs.
