Hatchback/liftgate Hinge Problems of Chrysler Town & Country

2013 Chrysler town and country. Consumer writes in regards to defective pinch sensors sliding and rear doors in vehicle. The consumer stated her dog was almost crushed by the sliding door, the day after she leased the vehicle. The salesperson stated the door would stop, but that was not true as she later learned when the service manager tested it. Though it will stop with push back force, a limb or small person would be crushed. The service manager determined all the other vehicles on the lot functioned in the same manner. So it appeared that it was not an isolated defect. The liftgate also required increasing force to stop. As it lowered, the consumer was unable to stop it, when it was within a foot or so of closing.

Liftgate was open, closed on its own and window exploded. Window glass was everywhere. .

Liftgate tended to pop open it on its own. The light inside the dashboard indicated that the liftgate was not open when this occurred. Took vehicle to dealer for a checkup, but the cause was undetermined.

While driving hatchback intermittently opened. No warning light shown before or after the incident. Dealership was notified, reprogramed the lift-gate module did not resolve the problem. A new latch mechanism was installed a week ago and the problem has not re-occurred.

The automatic liftgate would open by itself intermittently from a stop position while driving or while the vehicle was shift into drive. Vehicle is at the dealer , and they are unable to locate the cause of the problem.
