We have been advised by our mechanic that our total integrated power module (tipm) needs to be replaced. We took our car in for a diagnostic check after the headlights would not come on -- even after checking/replacing fuses, replacing headlight bulbs, and installing a new headlight switch. The mechanic advised us that their diagnostic check revealed an error code from the tipm. They reset the code, and the headlights became functional again, but they were uncertain how long the fix would last (it only lasted that afternoon). As a result, they recommended replacing the tipm. (expected repair costs: $1600, plus about $200 in replacement headlight bulb and switch costs. ) the same evening (of the diagnostic service, above), the headlights failed again at nighttime. We were forced to drive home from a professional sporting event (about 6 miles) on city streets in the dark (no headlights), with only hazard lights flashing the whole way. Note: prior to the headlight failure, the radio also died (following an audible electric "pop" (short?) while we were driving. ) diagnostic and replacement fees on that electrical system-related fix cost us an additional $600.
