36 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/02/2013

On the interstate I-75 in tennessee mountains at night, headlights went out while driving with family of 4. Quickly attempted to turn on and off the headlight switch which turned the lights back on. My teenager had complained about problems turning the headlights on previously, which I had ignored, stating that she turned the light switch on but the headlamps did not go on but that the yellow side markers did turn on. Have experienced this problem repeatedly over the last few weeks. Chrysler dealer tom ahl in lima ohio was informed of the issue but would not inspect or service the vehicle without charging an inspection fee, as no recall has been issued for this problem. I declined to pay this and asked them to enter the issue into their service database.

37 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/25/2012

Have a 2005 town and country that I bought as a used vehicle and I was traveling at night doing fine when out of the blue the headlights switched themselves off, I manually turned them off and back on and they did the same thing again. We pulled off the road and shut off the car for about 30 minutes came back and when I the car with no issue, turned on the headlights no go, had to do this three time before they came back on any ideas.

40 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/13/2012

Loss of headlights while traveling 70mph. High beams worked only if lever was held down, and I had to drive like this for an hour. Over the past 2-3 years the headlights would intermittently flicker or turn off, but I could usually resolve the problem by toggling the headlights off and on several times. This would occur periodically, with several months in between incidents. In may and June of this year, the problem began to occur more frequently, with complete loss of headlights finally occurring. My mechanic replaced the front headlight control module 6-15-12 and the headlights operated fine until this past week- 7-11-12, when the headlights began to flicker again and went out while driving only 5mph in parking garage. Toggling the on/off switch corrected the problem and headlights came on.

41 Headlight Switch problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

The contact owns a 2001 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving at night approximately 45 mph, the driver's side headlight failed to illuminate. The contact engaged the low beam headlight and continued in operation. On a separate occasion the similar failure occurred with the passenger's side headlight. The malfunction occurred intermittently. The contact replaced the headlight bulbs himself at different times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fcm module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included on any recalls. However, there was an open and closed investigation under NHTSA action number pe05004 (exterior lighting:headlights:switch). The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. The VIN was unavailable.

42 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

The headlights will fail without warning. I was driving at night and noticed that the headlights did not turn on when the switch was activated. Toggling the switch back and forth a few times, turned them on. Since the first incident, this has occurred at least 2 times per week. The lights will usually turn on when switching the lights on and off, but the past two days they have not turned on at all. The parking lights and highbeams still work, but not the main driving lights. This is a serious safety problem. The dealership does not appear to know what is going on.

43 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/14/2012

Headlights will not turn on. Repeated turning off & on of headlight switch (5 to 10 itmes) eventually works. However, using the turn signal lever on the column to hold the brights on does result in brights only - if you hold the lever continuously. Nhtsa ea11010 from September of 2011 says defect is being investigated. How much time is needed for a diagnosis?.

44 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the headlights failed to illuminate. The contact activated and deactivated the headlight switch several times but the headlights failed to function. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not eligible for the service campaign. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000. The VIN was not available.

45 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/18/2012

Went to turn headlights on and they would not turn on. Had this happen once before, but I just turned the switch on and off repeatedly and they finally worked. I tried a few different things this time and nothing worked. They lights still don't turn on. This seems to be a dangerous problem! I looked for a solution online and there seems to be many others with the same problem.

46 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/21/2012

My husband went out one evening to leave and turned the headlights on and they wouldn't come on he had to play with the switch. After that we have had nothing but problems. The headlights come on and off while driving down the road. There have been times I have had to pull over until they would come back on which has made me late for work. And now it's to the point that the running lights come on by themselves while the vehicle is parked and off.

47 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/06/2012

My 2005 Chrysler Town & Country has had the headlights fail several times. High beams worked by holding them in the on position, if I tried to turn them on they would go out. After flipping the switch a number of times I got the lights back on. We just lost lights again last night and were able to get them on after flipping the switch a number of times.

48 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/06/2011

The switch that operates the turn signals, the wiper/washer, and the high/low beams fails as such: when signaling left at times the right indicator comes on, and visa versa. When operating the wiper "on" switch, nothing happens until you signal or use the high/low beam part of the switch. When trying to lower my headlight beams the switch will at times fail to lower them until a separate action happens with the switch. All of these failures are sporadic, and will appear apparently when there is moisture in the air through rain or fog. (when you would not want them to happen at all). These are safety recalls I am asking for because the dealership, even though we have an extended warantee says they cannot do anything unless they see it happen. Most of this happens after hours or when the dealership is not open. I have had the vehicle to the dealership on three separate times. A recall would cause them to be obligated to do the repair. After researching this problem on the web have found many 2006 town and country minivan owners have experienced the same issue. Please issue a recall on these. I am sure other years are affected because that switch is widely used.

49 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

I was traveling last night and both of my headlights went out. I am very fortunate that I did not wreck!!! the lights went off and after I toggled the headlight switch 3-4 times the lights came back on. However, about 3 minutes later, they went off again. This time it happened on a curvy road with no street lights! I toggled the switch again and they came back on. I took my van home and it has been parked ever since! I have noticed via the internet that this is a common problem with this vehicle! I hope that you all will investigate and determine that this needs to be dealt with. I had 3 of my children with me when this happened and I shutter to think of what could have happened!!!! please fix this problem. It appears that Chrysler has known of this issue for a while but has failed to fix the issue. Maybe you all can force them to fix it!!!.

50 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

Headlights fail to come on, or turn off while driving. It may take several attempts to get the headlights on by turning the switch on and off several times. The lights have gone off several times while driving creating a great safety hazard. If you pull the high beam switch the high beams do come on and stay on as long as the switch is held back.

51 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/08/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact noticed that the headlights failed. The contact stated after turning the headlight switch various times, the headlights finally illuminated. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics or repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.

52 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/08/2011

While driving at night, my headlights went out, very scary and glad I wasn't on a curve or bridge. I played with the switch until the lights came back on. This happened about 3 or more times within 10 minutes, luckily I was close to home. I had the headlights checked out at a garage and they couldn't find anything wrong, since the lights do work at times and you can't predict when the failure will happen. I believe the problem is in the switch. I don't want to waste my money fixing something I believe is a defect that Chrysler should take care of. My garage suggested I check to see if there may be a recall. This has been happening for almost 4 months now so I don't drive the van at night. This is dangerous.

53 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 09/17/2011

The headlights on my vehicle would not come on. I had to turn the switch on and off to get them to come on. Then they went off when I was pulling out of the parking lot. This happened the same way another time. I took it to the dealership and contacted Chrysler. The dealer said they could not do anything because it did not happen for them. Chrysler said to work with the dealership. Last night - 11/11. I turned on my lights - after a short delay they came on. While driving on the express way they went off and I wiggled the switch and they came on. This happened again. Then, the third time the wiggling did not work. I was in complete darkness and going 55 mph. I bumped the switch and they came on. Others have said to just pull the high beam lever towards you to get lights enough to pull over. I will do that next time. This is a very frightening and unsafe condition.

54 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 09/08/2011

Both headlights stopped working at night. I had to hold the bright light switch on for an hour drive home in the dark. The next day they didn't work, then when I took it to the mechanic, they fiddled with the switch and got it working. But many many folks are complaining about this on-line. Please issue a recall.

55 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/06/2011

Headlights will sometimes will not turn on until tried several times. This week, while driving about 38 mph, the headlights flashed on/off rapidly 3 times then remained off until I cycled the switch several times. No more occurrences that evening or for 4 more days, then tonight after driving about 5 miles home, I decided to try the switch and found that only about 1 out of 5 tries were successful in getting the headlights to turn on. The serious concern is when the headlights flash and then turn off while I am driving and will not immediately turn on.

56 Headlight Switch problem of the 2003 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/04/2011

Headlights turned off while driving. Very dangerous. Has happened multiple times. Very scary driving on interstate at night in rain in traffic. Had to pull over. Flickering the switch on and off got the healights back on. Only to go out again and again. . . And again. I was concerned the person in front of me thought I kept turning my headlights off for some reason but I could not control them. Now sometimes when I turn my car off, the bells ring because it thinks the lights are on so I must toggle the switch to stop that. Very frustrating and very dangerous.

58 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Headlight switch does not always work. Initially it would take playing with switch to turn lights on. Occasionally lights will turn off while driving. Now the parking lights will not always turn off.

59 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

About may or June of this year, the headlights of our 2005 Town & Country van started failing to come on when the interior switch was turn "on". At first, simple toggeling would get them to work though the frequency of having to do this as well as the lights failing to stay on have increased significantly in the recent months. This is my wife's primary work vehicle and she ofter returns from work when it's dark. She had a number of instances where the headligts have just "gone out" while she was driing. I was looking on the iternet recently to see if there were any posts as to what is causing this to happen and not many have posted an definative answer to the headlight failure. My other major issue with this 2005 Town & Country is the ac system. We have had this fixed over 11 times since we purchased the vehicle new in October of 2005 with the first repair coming less than a month after we purchased the van.

60 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/10/2011

Headlights did not respond reliably to "on/off" switch. Intermittent headlight function - sometimes ( now more often) no headlights at all unless 'brights' knob on left of steering wheel pulled and held towards driver; then lights will stay on as long as lever is held. Unsafe to drive in rain/ nightime.

61 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

Headlights sometimes fail to come on and sometimes flicker and sometimes go out when driving at night. Suspect bad light switch.

62 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/15/2011

I have a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country. Tonight at 8:30 I turned the light switch on and started out of a parking lot when I realized that the headlights were not on. After several attemps of flipping the light switch on and off with no success, I put the vehicle in park and tried several more times and was finally able to get the headlights to turn on. 15 minutes later, while traveling down the road at 40+mph with 3 month old twin grandbabies and two older children in the vehicle, the lights turn off for at least 20 seconds or more and then return back on for even less time, when they resume to turning off again several times before making it home. I purchased this vehicle from a used dealership in September of 2010 with no idea that there were so many complaints about the headlights failing. This vehicle was purchased with the intention to safely carry my twin grandchildren and it is not acceptable that this problem has not been resolved and the dealership is not being held accountable.

63 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler town and country. While driving at approximately 40 mph, the headlights suddenly failed without warning. The failure recurred intermittently but became more frequent over time. There was an open investigation under NHTSA action number: pe10022 (exterior lighting:headlights:high/low beam dimmer switch exterior switch) but no recalls. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was informed that a diagnostic test would have to be performed. The diagnostic was not performed and the vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

64 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/04/2011

It happened several times at night when driving the headlights turned off. Pulled over and tried to turn the switch on and off several times before it turned back on. This kept coming back every now and then. Some times the lights will quit working for several weeks and then one day they would just come back on, and stay on for a few days before it starts all over again. Replaced headlight switch and headlight bulbs, clean all the fuses in the fuse box, problem not solved. This problem compromises the safety of the occupants of this vehicle as well as the safety of other road users.

65 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/11/2011

Headlights sometimes fail to come on and sometimes flicker and sometimes go out when driving at night. Suspect bad light switch same issue posted by others - why no recall?.

66 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

While driving my headlights began to flicker then went out had to pull over ,I flipper the headlight switch several times until headlights turned back on. Since then I have had problems with turning on my headlights having to flip the switch several times, the lights will go out while driving . I have replaced the headlight bulbs along with dash board lights and I,m still having problems, it's like they have a mind all their own to when they turn off and on.

67 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/24/2010

I entered my vehicle, started the car and proceeded to turn the headlights on. I noticed there was no light emanating from either headlight. I tried several times but the lights would not turn on and darkness had arrived. I drove the car without headlights to the nearest service station and they informed me it was a switch located in the steering column that needed replacing. I have googled this issue and have come across many complaints regarding this problem.

68 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/13/2010

I have had problems with my headlights going off while driving at night or not coming on when I turn on the switch for going on 3 years. While my van was under warranty it was taken in specifically for this reason only to be told that they could not replicate the problem. It is now out of warranty. It can go for a couple of weeks without a problem then all of a sudden the lights go out while driving down the interstate. Luckily I have been able to get them to come right back on. But I have had several instances where the lights just will not come on without turning the switch off and on several times. This is really getting old fast. I bought the van for it's stow and go seating but I am beginning to wonder if all this is worth it.

69 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

Headlights fail to come on when being turned on. After turning on and off the head light switch a couple times the lights finally come on.
