I had an accident where the vehicle suddenly steered to the left. I did a 360 plus 90. I was going around a bend to the left at the time. There was a light rain at the time but I was not exceeding the speed limit and I have driven this road many times in the past. The front passenger tire was completely torn form the car. After it was towed and I had a chance to see the damage, I noticed a dark black mark about 5/8 of an inch by 1/4 inch on the broken ball joint. I think the ball joint had a defect in it and that a the accident was caused by the ball joint breaking where it flattens out to connect to the steering rod or connecting rod. At the present time the vehicle is at thomas chevy dealership in bedford, PA I am going to have the adjuster take pictures to have some evidence of this and will ask to keep the parts or give them to me. A couple of days after the accident I went back to the location to see if there was any thing more I could remember about the accident and how it happened. I saw a slight gouge in the road like something had been pushed or pulled on the blacktop surface of the road. I will try to see if the end of the tie rod or whatever it is called has a wear spot on it when I go to look at the car today. I have no camera to be able to have any photo evidence of this. I would like to know if there have been other accidents involving a ball joint part breaking.

The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler town and country. While driving approximately 5 mph, the contact heard a loud screeching sound from under the vehicle. 2001 Chrysler Town & Country limited 3. 8l v6. I have had suspension problems from the start. Knocking noises, etc. Replaced tie rods, sway bars, lower control arms and bushings, but done it piecemeal. Many of these items have been repeatedly replaced. Now it has gotten worse--from strictly annoying to downright dangerous. The van jerks approx 6-8 feet left and right into another lane or shoulder in a second. Replaced the lower control arms and reduced the jerks to only 6-8 inches but still drifts. I am again replacing rack & pinion, inner and outter tie rods along with the new control arms. Hopefully this will alleviate the problem--but this repeated repairs has cost more than the van is worth. Not to mention the rapid wear of tires (seem to replace every 10k miles).

Because I am disabled I bought a used 2006 Chrysler town and country lwb on August 2, 2010. On the way home the steering failed. Because this failure could have caused an accident, I took it to two dealers for estimates and wound up having the rack and pinion and loose tie rods replaced on August 9, 2010.

We have had numerous problems with the front end, driver's side of our 2007 Chrysler Town & Country. We purchased the vehicle new. It is currently at the dealership again for noise in the front. We have had to have the stabilizer links and bushings replaced, the left side front strut replaced, the left hand outer tie rod replaced and they just called to say the bushings and stabilizer links need replaced again. We have also had problems with the air conditioning, actuators and brakes. Chrysler has refused to assist with the tie rod (dealership called them) since we have had so many problems with it. Dealership is currently calling them to see if they will assist with the bushings & stabilizer links. Our van was in the shop one month ago with front end problems (they replaced the tie rod) and now this happens again. It is always the driver's side front end. It is an ongoing problem.
The contact owns a 2002 Chrysler town and country. While driving at speeds of 60-65 mph on a slightly wet road surface, the vehicle began pulling to the extreme right without driver intent. The contact attempted to straighten the steering wheel but the failure persisted. The contact was unable to maintain control of the vehicle and proceeded to crash into a nearby guardrail. The fire department and police were called to the scene. There were no injuries. The vehicle was completely destroyed and towed to the contacts residence. The failure was caused by the tie rod. The VIN was provided; however, it was not accepted at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 13,223.

Ltr fm (CT) concerned about the safety of his daughters defective 1999 Chrysler town and country, the tie rod fell off. The consumer stated most automobile manufacturers have eliminated the grease fittings that most tie rod ends use. Apparently, there was a crack in the rubber grommet that enclosed the ball and road surface water leaked in and corroded the ball and enclosure. After the ball and socket had experienced sufficient reduction, it finally slipped out of the enclosure and dropped to the ground.

1999 Chrysler town and country right side steering tie rod failed. It appeared that the rubber seal may have cracked open and allowed water into the area of the ball and caused corrosion.
We own a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country touring van. At approximately 16000 we had a problem with the rack & pinion and ball joints. It was taken to a dealer that was suppose to have fixed the problem -- we have had problems with items in that area since then. We have enjoyed our vehicle except for this problem -- the latest incident is the tie rod end needs to be replaced and we were told that it would not be covered under the warranty. The vehicle has approximately 51,000 miles on it at this time.

At 34886 miles the steering rack assembly was replacd for a 'clunking noise' in the front end. The problem was later traced to the sway bar insulators and link ends. At 59600 miles the vehicle was serviced for vibration in the steering column, with a moaning sound, whenever turning at slow speeds. At 60569 the steering hoses, fluid and steering assembly were replaced. None of these components remedied the shudder in the steering.
Vehicle has a clunking noise in front end. When hitting a bump it goes to steering system and make steering difficult. Dealer contacted.
