2 Steering Wheel problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 03/14/2004

In January we bought a 2001 Chrysler town and country Mini van. We had only had this van a short period of time when we were driving down the road and all of a sudden the steering wheel was in our hands. We were only a few short miles to getting onto the interstate where the results could have been devastating. Chrysler sent an investigator to check out this van and we got a letter saying" from the information you provided, it appears your inquiry may be more appropriately reviewed for possible action by the agency listed below. " ( the national highway traffic safety administration. ) Chrysler has obviously done nothing about this situation. I want to know if anything can be done. We bought this van at des moines Chrysler and Plymouth and feel they neglected the job in putting out a vehicle for sale that was completely safe. We had our grandchild with us and feel something should be done about this. Nothing was said in the letter we received about the fact that this steering wheel was off the column, in our hands and no control of the vehicle. We did go into the ditch on the left side of the road but thank god, no one was hurt. No vehicle was oncoming and the ditch was wide and shallow. Does someone have to be killed to have results in this case? I am not happy with this discussion. Someone did very wrong in handling this and I think that we are getting a bad deal. The daimler Chrysler corp is also sending you a report. It is just not a common everyday occurrence to be driving down the road on a busy highway and suddenly you have the steering wheel in your hands. Thank god my husband was driving because I know that I could not have handled it. I feel something should be done to avoid this ever happening again. We were absolutely scarred to death. Believe me, our lives flashed before our eyes.

3 Steering Wheel problem of the 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/01/2002

2002 Chrysler Town & Country horn the horn on the vehilcles is very difficult to honk, for the lack of a better word. Tapping the horn as a friendly gesture is out of the question - in fact it is disconcerting in that you really have to press hard on it to make it work and when it finally works, it is quite a blast (because of the pressure required). The dealer says that they are all this way (I can't be sure of that)and that they are not allowed to make any changes to the tension or part involved in the problem. No vehicle I have ever owned has even remotely exhibited this problem. The fact is that it becomes a safety issue because one has to consciously think about how hard to press on the horn to produce the desired results. In this case, the only result is a very loud and unfriendly blast. Many thanks, nick 707-785-3440 ts.

The clock-spring in my Chrysler failed causing the air bag light to come on at times and also causing my cruise control to not work at times. My bill for repair of this failure was $191. 74. I was told that this was not covered under my service contract. However I now see that their has been a recall issued for this very problem. My question is, how do I get reimbursed the $191. 74? dt.

11 Steering Wheel problem of the 1999 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/27/1999

I have a Chrysler town and country limited 1999 with 21,000 miles. Last week while pulling from a parking lot. I heard a noise in the engine and the car stopped and it was impossible for me to steer the wheel. I looked in the engine and I found the belt loose and the the belt tension pully and the bolt under the car. The car towed to the Chrysler dealer. Now several questions raised about this car, which I got no answer from the technical manager.

12 Steering Wheel problem of the 1997 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 07/10/1998

Every time I drive into a puddle my steering wheel locks up, it takes about 2 minutes for the car to regain its steering. I have three children and this has happend dozens of times. I went to Chrysler in vero beach, florida and at first they told me they never heard of this happening to anyone. They then told me the belt got wet and replaced it. The next day it happened again on the highway when I was 1 1/2 hours from home and they said bring it back which I did that day. When I returned to new york with the same problem the dealership in larchmont, new york said they never heard of the problem and could not fix it. This summer I was in vero beach and they said they heard of the problem but fixed my problem 2 years ago and now the car is no longer under warranty. This is extremely dangerous! I cannot hit a puddle for if I do, I cannot control my car. You can hear the steering straining while I am trying to control the car. I have 3 children, Chrysler should repair this correctly and have a recall immediately. Please help!.

17 Steering Wheel problem of the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country

The Town & Country (t&c) minivan does not have a stearing wheel gear shift lock to prevent children from accidently shifting gears. You don't need to step on the brake to shift out of park in the Town & Country van. How did the safety commission allow Chrysler to get away with this? do we need to have an accident or have a child killed in one of these vans for the gov. To require Chrysler to install a safety lock on all of their popular minivans? I asked a dealer about this and they told me that chysler does not have a safety lock on its t&c minivans. This surprised me and the dealer, since many families do buy the t&c minivan. I think that Chrysler needs to install this feature in all of its popular vans! all I am asking for is Chrysler to install a safety feature that should have already been there in one of its most popular minivan series.
