1 Strut Tower problem of the 2015 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/22/2021

A 2015 Chrysler town and country van from miami, florida driven only in non-salt, snow conditions of florida has total corrosion of strut tower and strut accessories to the point that strut is not connected due to the corrosion and perforation of strut tower connection points. Contact Chrysler having pre-purchased a lifetime maximum care guarantee for replacement and correction. Chrysler will not honor guarantee replacement claiming that guarantee is not extended to rust. Claimant claims that the extensive level of corrosion for a care from the state of florida with that level of corrosion is a manufacturer defect directly related to the design or manufacturer defect for the corrosion resistant finish applied to the strut tower or design of the strut tower that ponds or captures water with way to effectively drain the tower leading to corrosion on a compromised surface treatment that creates a life safety hazard from the corrosion of preformation of strut tower connection points on a vehicle that is less than five years old. With Chrysler not taking responsibility for the correction or replacement of the defective components. Cost of repair at Chrysler dealership is $1,800. 00.

4 Strut Tower problem of the 1999 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/15/2011

We took our 1999 Chrysler Town & Country to our mechanic to have the water pump replaced and he informed us of the drivers side strut tower rusting out and should have it replaced as it could be a hazard while driving. This was reported to us on 08-2011 with the car having 142000 miles on it. Nothing has been done to repair it at this point. Am looking to see if there are any recalls for this problem.

5 Strut Tower problem of the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 06/07/2010

At approx 30,000 miles, I rotated the tires, the front/rear brakes were shot. I replaced everything. I later learned about the recall. Brewbaker Chrysler told me "too bad, I guess you learned a lesson" when I brought them my receipts for the brake parts. Around the same time, I was replacing the wiper blades when I notice the driverside front strut tower was severely rusted. Water is trapped in the "cup" of the strut tower and had eaten quite a bit. Shortly thereafter, I traded the vehicle. I had issues with the sliding rear doors(reopening with nothing in the way and closing too hard, ie safety feature inop), the automatic back door(broken linkage), the "y" cooling hose broke/split, using a quart of oil every 1,000 miles and locking with the keys inside. Upon trade-in, the van had approx 58,000 miles. I will never buy another Chrysler product again! I've never had one vehicle with so many problems in such a short time. My current vehicle, 02 chevy s10 4. 3l v6 (owned since new, . 2 miles) has 119,000+ miles and the only problem I've had was a bad tps, at around 100,000 miles. Chrysler needs to step up their game and fix there vehicles.

6 Strut Tower problem of the 2001 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/26/2010

I own a 2001 Chrysler town and country minivan and recently took it to a mechanic for inspection to see what work needed to be done in order to take the vehicle on a 1,000 mile vacation. The mechanic pointed out that the minivan has a rusted strut tower. It is the tower located on the driver's side. After searching on the internet I see that this is and has been a common failure for Chrysler, Dodge and pontiac vans. I have been told by several mechanics and body shops that this is a known defect on these vehicles and the failure happens frequently.

9 Strut Tower problem of the 1999 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 01/23/2009

The contact owns a 1999 Chrysler town and country. In June of 2006, the contact was informed that the strut tower could detach from the vehicle and cause a crash. The vehicle was not repaired at that time and the mechanic warned him that a failure was eminent. In 2007, he took the vehicle to a repair shop for minor service and was informed that he could die if he continued to drive the vehicle. He was also informed that the strut mount tower was rusted out. As a result, it could separate at any given moment, burst through the hood of the vehicle, and cause the wheel to fall horizontally. However, the contact continued to drive the vehicle because he had no other means of transportation. He took the vehicle to jiffy lube for an oil change and had to sign a form acknowledging that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The contact called the manufacturer, but was treated rudely and was disconnected. He feels that his vehicle is a safety hazard and could lead to a fatal crash. The current and failure mileages were 160,000.

11 Strut Tower problem of the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 05/12/2008

Normal use of the vehicle has led to strut towers rusting and separating under the hood, causing a potentially dangerous loss of control while driving the vehicle. I have had two repair shops replace tie rods and struts several times because of rusting of strut tower. A Chrysler dealership told me to repair with a "strut tower repair kit". They then explained this is a very common defect in Chrysler/Dodge minivans from 1996-2000 and there is a technical service bulletin #23-044-02 about the condition and repair. If left undiagnosed and un-repaired, this could cause a vehicle owner to lose control of the vehicle while driving. Due to the # of incidents & repairs, this seems to be a product design defect. Chrysler refused to pay for the kit. I don't understand why a recall would not be issued. . . Because no one has died yet?.

12 Strut Tower problem of the 1999 Chrysler Town & Country

14 Strut Tower problem of the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 02/08/2006

Strut tower corrosion on driver's side appears to be severe enough to break through and cause handling problems. My fear is that it may break through at highway speeds. It appears there are many incidents like this and that may be Chrysler is aware of the problem.

15 Strut Tower problem of the 2000 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 12/10/2005

Drivers side strut tower is rusting out.

16 Strut Tower problem of the 1997 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 11/24/2005

There is a technical service bulletin issued by Chrysler on oct. 14,2002 (TSB 23-044-02) on the problem and it covers all minivans build from 1996 until 2000. My 1997 Chrysler town and country Mini van has rusting front strut tower assembly's . My mechanic that if this condition is left as is , it will result in the front struts failing by premature failure of the chassis to hold them in place. This will result in the loss of steering . This could easily lead to an immediate accident. This is a know defect for 1996 to 2000 Mini vans. The Chrysler company had repair parts available but will not on it's own make a recall. I am asking that this recall me made immediately as to avoid the likelihood of accidents due to a defect in the manufactures design. The year 2001 chassis was changed to resolve this problem. Please act to help us get monetary assistance from the manufacture immediately. This is a well know problem that is being ignored. Parts are available to remedy the defect but only if paid by the owners of the defective vehicles. Since all the vans in question suffer this condition , it could not be the result of the owners. Can you help us? thank you.

17 Strut Tower problem of the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/22/2005

I took my van to a mechanic because I am having problems with the steering. Every time I hit a bump in the road, the van swerves (jumps) and is difficult to control. The mechanic showed me the strut tower on the driver side, it is so corroded and severe that the metal is perforated and starting to tear almost all the way through. The passenger side is starting to rust. He said if the tower gives way, I would loose total control of the van. If it was not hidden, I would have noticed it long before it got this bad. He said if the design had been done proper and the electro coating done correctly, this defect should not occur before 10 years. I contacted my uncle who found this is not an uncommon problem. Information on the Chrysler website issuing TSB number 23-044-02 acknowledging this problem for vans built from 1996 to 2000. He also found 14 pages of people with the same problem and the problems they had in finding the replacement parts and the expense they had to endure to have a safe vehicle. I can provide digital photos to you if they are needed. From all the replies that I printed, it seems Chrysler is unwilling to face up to their responsibility of putting peoples lives in jeopardy because people do not know what is happening to their vehicles. I am hoping your office looks into this matter so Chrysler can take responsibility for this defect and no one puts his or her family in jeopardy as I unknowingly have. This defect is going to cost me money I really do not have, but my children's safety is more important than paying some bills right now.

18 Strut Tower problem of the 1998 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 08/20/2005

Thankfully they haven't failed yet, but the strut towers are rusted very badly. Much more rust through would inevitably lead to complete structural failure of the strut tower (which would likely lead to loss of vehicle control and serious personal injury). Daimler Chrysler needs to recall these faulty strut tower mounts due to their lack of proper rust protection as they can lead to a major problem (and liability suit).

19 Strut Tower problem of the 1997 Chrysler Town & Country

Failure Date: 04/29/2004

Went in for oil change to casey auto asked for a free inspection of vheicle. They found the strut tower corrosion perforation on one side the other is perfect. They explained that this was very dangerous ,if the strut goes through the front side would drop. They explained there was a service bulletion on this and without any hesitation I went to Chrysler who took my information , explanin that I was not in any danger they have seen worse and told me I would be notified. After almost one month later I was told by Chrysler --- sorry , if the vehicle was 7 years it would be covered , normally this would not be covered after 36mth. But Chrysler is extending it to 7 years, unforturtly my vehicle is 7yrs and 9months. Needless to say this is an expensive repair but most importantly is it dangerour or not?? one mechanic says yes Chrysler says no. Now it was just by chance that a good mechanic saw this, Chrysler is well aware they have a problem. I feel this is something that I need to bring to someones attention.
