Suspension Noise Problems of Chrysler Town & Country

The contact owns a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country. The contact stated while driving various speeds, the vehicle would make a loud howling noise. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the rear passenger side wheel bearing was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in recall NHTSA campaign number: 12v141000 (suspension). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 44,000.

The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler town and country. While driving at any speed and depressing the brake pedal, it would go to the floor with a grinding sound. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was a crack in the axle and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v055000 (suspension). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 77,727.

Vehicle bottoms out and scrapes the bottom of the gas tank and its holding straps on any deep driveway approach. Occurrences have prevented vehicle use at church, doctor's offices, us post office, etc. "bottom hit" has occurred at high speed yet but a highway pothole could puncture the gas tank and lead to fire. The vehicle is a braun conversion van with an articulated ramp. The local distributor for braun, the ability center, contacted braun got the suggestion to change tire size along with an explanation that under clearance decreased in 2008 when Chrysler changed its body style. I contacted braun customer service and got no relief, no other suggestion. I worked with the ability center and we made a modification adding a shim to the suspension system elevating the undercarriage slightly. Braun mad it clear they would not pay for this work. Unfortunately the "fix" didn't completely solve the problem, clearly, there is a risk for anyone in the vehicle. The sound of the bottom of the car scraping sounds like a car crash, is very disconcerting and very distracting. Pulling out of church or the post office, both of which are on well traveled arterials, requires some acceleration to properly clear traffic. Right in the middle of such a move is when the bottom hits when you need your most concentration. Such an occurrence on today's highways in their national state of disrepair strongly suggests a car fire from a ruptured tank at speed. This needs a fix!.

The contact owns a 2004 Chrysler town and country. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer because of a loud knocking sound when driving over bumps. The mechanic stated that the noise was from the wear and tear of the suspension. The defect was replaced with a front suspension bushing sway eliminator module. The dealer stated that this was a common failure with this year, make, and model vehicle. The dealer further stated that there were no recalls available. The speed was unknown. The contact replaced the sway bar links herself. The failure continued. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop, where the vehicle was aligned and repaired. The failure continued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 01v152000 (suspension:front:control arm:lower arm). The vehicle was in the process of being repaired for a third time. The failure mileage was 140,000.

Possible suspension problem that must create excessive wear on the tires and causes the car to wobble at low speeds. Tires need to be replaced at one-half or less of their useful life. Dealer was not aware of the problem but michelin knew how to treat the symptom, put a new set of tires on the car, but not necessarily how to cure the problem. Anyone aware of this problem and what is being done to fix it? sounds like NHTSA item number: sb052078 to me. Is the complete bulletin available anywhere? dealer referred me to have wheels aligned at goodyear who sent me to michelin because of a belt separation. ( dot number: tire size: p215/65r16 ).
