2001 Chrysler Town & Country limited 3. 8l v6. I have had suspension problems from the start. Knocking noises, etc. Replaced tie rods, sway bars, lower control arms and bushings, but done it piecemeal. Many of these items have been repeatedly replaced. Now it has gotten worse--from strictly annoying to downright dangerous. The van jerks approx 6-8 feet left and right into another lane or shoulder in a second. Replaced the lower control arms and reduced the jerks to only 6-8 inches but still drifts. I am again replacing rack & pinion, inner and outter tie rods along with the new control arms. Hopefully this will alleviate the problem--but this repeated repairs has cost more than the van is worth. Not to mention the rapid wear of tires (seem to replace every 10k miles).

I originally wrote a letter to Chrysler corporation in August of 2010 and instructed them to forward the letter to you. I do not believe that ever happened so I decided I should file a complaint. Myself. Back in 2010 Chrysler notified owners that there is a problem with the braking system in 2008 town and country's that leads to premature wear. In the notice it said that Chrysler would pay for the first replacement of brake pads and rotors based on low mileage repolacements being required. I feel this is an unsafe situation that with no warning whatsoever the pads can just wear out and the rotors warp. I have had to replace the front brake pads 3 times with new rotors twice. Replaced at 12,000, 21,000, 34,000. The vehicle has been through a total of 4 new sets of pads and 3 sets of rotors. I also know that there is a defect with the front end geometry on the van and that could be a contributing factor. At a service appointment shortly after the initial purchase I was informed that the van needed all new struts, shocks, bushings, and front sway bar. The service manager indicated that there was a bulletin, and that the height of the mounting points were off, and thus all new parts were needed to fix the front end geometry, so the front sway bar would not break or wear out prematurely. I feel that the entire brake system is too light for the overall weight of the vehicle and the heat generated by the rotors is very dangerous. I feel the brakes should be recalled by Chrysler, and fixed.

The contact owns a 20045 Chrysler town and country lx. While driving various speeds over bumps in the road, the vehicle makes loud noises. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer on November 15, 2007 and they replaced the sway bar bushing; however, the repair did not permanently correct the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer on Feb 12, 2009. The dealer stated that the failure could recur two or three times in the lifetime of the vehicle. The repair would cost $475. The manufacturer is aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall; therefore, they would not assist with the repair. The failure mileage was 65,836 and current mileage was 85,132. I had a thumping noise in the front right side of my 2001 t&c with about 68000 miles. I took it to the mechanic and he changed the sway bar links, driver side idler arm, both struts, both strut bearings. 8 months latter I was back to the same mechanic to fix the noise which had gotten much worse. He changed the ball joints. I drove it for about another 6 months and noticed that the noise had not totally been illuminated and the strut bearings were creaking. I returned to the mechanic and he finally found the noise. He changed the a-arm and bushings on the passenger side. Problem fixed. One year later and it sounds like the drivers side may need replaced. A-arms and bushings are $350 . Total repairs: new a-arm and bushings, new struts and strut bearings twice, new ball joints twice, new sway bar links, new idler arms, and 3 front end alignments. There is no recall on any of these repairs and I would like to know why. Total cost of all repairs was about $1900. The second time around on the struts and bearings, ball joints was free. Woo! hoo!.
Constant klunking from front end when ever going over bumps, have replace sway bars ,on both sides tie rods, cv joints ,everything has been replaced on this front end and still makes a klunking noise my sister had the same problem with her Dodge grand caravan. Have talked to numerous people that own or have owned Chrysler minivans numerous years and makes and models, with the same problem.

The vehicle, above, bounced around on the road and was noisy. Since we are both retired and drive about 2000 miles per month we felt unsafe since about 75% of our miles are at highway speeds on the interstate roads. We feared a lack of control with a possiblity of a crash. The dealer reaired but Chrysler would not stand behind the cost of $726 to repair. We experienced this reaction on the 2001 Chrysler after two years because we drive more than double the average driver. It would seem to us that there are some potential accidents waiting to happen when the average driver reaches their fourth year or 52000 miles. Feel there should be a recall on the failure of front end struts and sway bars for a two year old vehicle with 53000 miles. Dt.
