Automatic Transmission Problems of Dodge Avenger - part 2

I have a 2008 Dodge Avenger and on Saturday 5/15/10 my car got stuck in park and would not shift. We were able to shift it manually to get it home but after researching the problem I found it is a common problem with this make and model of car, yet there is still no recall. It is not covered under my warranty and Dodge wants $50 to just look at it and tell me what it is although I already know what's wrong with it and many other 2008 Dodge Avengers.

When my husband went to leave work our Avenger (automatic transmission) would not shift out of park. Fortunately a CO-worker is handy with cars and took apart the gear shift panel and showed my husband that there was a pink piece broken and that he would have to move this piece by hand to shift gears. We were told at oriely's auto parts that this piece is called a shift lock and is not carried at those types of stores. As this happened yesterday (Saturday) we won't be able to contact the Dodge dealership until Monday to find out how much it will cost to repair. After doing online research I have found this to be a common problem on the 2008 Dodge Avenger.

I own a 2008 Dodger Avenger. For no known reason, the shifting gear wont shift and is stuck in park. If it does go into gear, for no known reason it pops back into park, causing a major risk to others that are on the road not to mention to me and my family!.

I purchased the 2008 Dodge Avenger last year and I've noticed not even once the brakes were newly installed at 20,000 miles you can feeling the braking system through the steering wheel. My main concern is the shifting. Without warning after class the shifter would not move from park. Leaving me stranded. The engine runs fine, and I followed the manual and other suggestions by the dealer. What needs to be done for this to be taken seriously? this is ridiculous and Dodge needs to be held accountable. I have been to many sites regarding this issue. According to Dodge they are not responsible. And warranty doesn't cover this issue!.

I have a 2008 Dodge Avenger and the vehicle is stuck in park and no manual override to correct the problem. I have done some research on the internet as well as spoke with someone with Dodge/Chrysler and they are aware of the problem, but have not placed a recall or TSB on the vehicle. My 2008 Dodge Avenger is having a major shifting issue. When you shift the car into drive it will pop out and land into nutural. There is also times that this will be very hard to shift out of park. There is several complaints on the internet that shows the same issues. I called the dealer and was told that they have heard complaints but has not heard of a recall. My car is out of warranty and will cost me to bring it in to get it looked at. Please let me know how I can move forward to get this into a recall before this pops out of drive when I am going 55 mph and have an accident.

Power train: automatic transmission. 3rd time since purchased March 2008. Last time a few months ago. Driving on wet road this morning pulled car into parking space, will not come out of park. Car still under warranty last time had to pay. Car only 44,075 miles. Last two times took car Dodge dealer fro service.

My transmission went out at 56,000 miles. I had taken the car in at 33773 miles because it was not shifting right. They could not find anything wrong with it. I had taken the car in 3 items since purchasing it due to transmission issues. I drive a lot for my job and need a reliable car. I now have to pay for a new transmission. I called Chrysler and they will let me pay only $1380. 00 but I do not feel I should have to pay anything since I had the car in while still under warranty and they could not find or fix the problem. Avengers have transmission problems that no one wants to address. Chrysler needs to be held accountable for poor transmissions.

Vehicle was stopped at a traffic signal, automatic in drive, when signal changed, removed foot from brake and car reversed while still in drive hitting the vehicle behind me. Transmission jumps in and out of gear when ever it feels like it causing the front tires to lock up and the passengers to be tossed around . It will continully do this until I stop the car then its fine for a minute then it does it again . No matter what I do it keeps happening .

I have a 1999 Dodge Avenger. I bought the car in 2004 and I had the heads done on it. The transmission started acting up in 2005 and is still giving me problems. Sometimes it won't change into second until I turn the car off and restart it. The O2 sensors keep going out. The check engine light is always coming on. I am a single parent and cannot afford to keep fixing this car nor can I afford a new car. The brakes keep wearing out. I am having so many problems out this car that I don't know what to do. The shocks and struts are out. The half shaft is messed up again. I need so help with some of this repairs. Chrysler and Dodge knew these cars weren't made right now they need to help those of us who have them.

I was getting onto the interstate when I noticed my rpm were around 5000 and would not go down. I realized the transmission had locked in second gear. This is a very common problem with the junk a604/41te transmission that Chrysler made.

The transmission went on my car - 1998 Dodge Avenger, 35,000 miles. 8ak.

When the car was purchased 11/01. I was informed by a Dodge tech that the transmission was going to go "out" around 50,000 miles. I have heard this from numerous Dodge owners and mechanics. At 52,874 the transmission quit shifting and we had to take it to the dealer for repair according to the extended service contract that I purchased with the car. The contract was with an outside company. The contract company when called about repairs also stated that they are aware of the transmission problems associated with Dodge/Chrysler products. The car was at the dealer for 2 weeks awaiting parts and repair.

Gears are not changing properly, vehicle has a really rough start, vehicle stalls, and sometimes won't start. Please provide any further information.

While going down the road about 45mph vehicle jerks violently. It feels like driver is slamming on the brakes, although driver is not applying the brakes at all. Also, checked transmission fluid, and noticed that there was fragments of metal pieces. Contacted dealer, will have vehicle towed. This is the third time this has happened. The second time it was taken to the dealer, and they replaced transmission on 03-Apr-2000, and now it has to go back to the shop.

This vehicle has been a costant burden since the day it was drove off the lot. Ross park Dodge claims since they have fixed the problems they have "found" the are not responsible for my loss of time or any inconviences. I was told by the manager that since the problems with this car are cosmetic he intends to do nothing. I recomend no one waste valueable time or money with a Dodge Avenger it is unreliable and truely a nightmare to own. My comment is thank god it is leased! no safety defect listed in the summary.

My transmission seal blew off at 18,000 miles, whch shouldn't have happened. It took the dealer 2 weeks to fix car, and when I got it back, the transmission fell out. They also used my car as a rental car, and I got it back with 700 extra miles on it.

Car was parked with shifter in "p" and engine off. When I turned the key in the ignition the car took off like a banshee at full revs. I hit a building, some stone steps, went over a curb, and barely managed to make a 90 degree turn to avoiding running down two pedertrians. When key was turned off the car was still in "p". It appears that there may have been a recall (98v183000) for this problem, however we were never notified of it. We will never trust this car to drive again and are requesting that Chrysler replace it.
