Failure Date: 07/11/2020

The car engines lights came on while driving the electric throttle body light and ecs lights came on. The car is losing oil and overheating while driving. I took the car to a shop and they found an oil leak but don't know exactly where the oil leak is coming from. Oil is spilling all over the transmission. I contacted Dodge since the car has 89,000 miles on it and they ignored the problem. The car sputters in the middle of intersection it drives at 2000 rpms without gas pedal being press. The brakes depress on their own. Why is there no investigation done on these Dodge Avengers. Do someone have to lose their life in order to fix these issues?.

11 Suspension problem of the 2012 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 08/17/2015

Bought a brand new 2012 Avenger se with a 3. 6l. The car has shaken violently at speeds above 45 mph. It has been to the dealer under warranty 6 times for the issue, and no faults we're found. The car is past it's warranty, and the dealer now wants an arm and a leg to diagnose the issue. The vibration is only getting worse and worse. The front suspension has been checked numerous times, and everything seems fine, the rear struts we're just replaced, which helped the vibration under 60 mph, however it still vibrates. Car went to the dealer with 8000 miles on it due to passenger side window issues, where the dealer once again found nothing wrong. Left the dealership, and the check engine light came on for an O2 sensor. The wires had been pinched so bad, that it needed to be replaced as well. We have been through 6 sets of tires in 4 years. Car currently has 90,000 miles on it, and vibration gets worse every day.

12 Suspension problem of the 2011 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 02/06/2015

This car continues to sway and hop at almost any speed. If you hit the slightest bump the rear end of this vehicle hops as if the tires have actually left the ground. In addition, the car sways left to right especially on the highway at about 65 mph. I have driven in the snow for the last 30+ years and I have never been so white knuckled in the snow. This car feels as if it has zero control in the snow. I have never experienced anything like it. And I am not talking feet of snow, it had literally just started to snow and there was maybe an inch or two on the ground. I have taken it to my mechanic thinking maybe it needed an alignment only to be told the alignment was already spot on ~ I am very concerned that there is a serious flaw in the suspension on this car yet no mechanic or dealer can tell me what's wrong even though they have felt it themselves. Somebody please look into this as I see I am not the only person experiencing this horrible feeling :(.

13 Suspension problem of the 2013 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 06/18/2014

Car began making creaking noises. Took car to dealership and was told that the inner tie rods were bad and would need to be replaced. Was also told that this was the third car of similar make and model that day with the same issue. Car under extended warranty so they will fix it once I pay the deductible.

2013 Dodge Avenger. Consumer writes in regards to several problems with vehicle and recall notices. The consumer stated the esc light illuminated. The consumer also believed there was a problem with the rear of the vehicle.

16 Suspension problem of the 2011 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 12/12/2013

Had weight in the back of the vehicle. Roads began to become lightly snow covered. Back end of car floated, as if not touching the highway. Control of the vehicle was minimal. Slowed tremendously to ensure a somewhat safe remainder of trip. Has happened two other times, always while carrying extra passengers or weight in the car. Very concerning. Apparently, this is a problem that even the dealer service employees are aware of. There is no real fix. They have set rear alignment to farthest inward position to counteract rear tires bowing out with weight. I am skeptical this will fix problem permanently. Then will my next worry be wear on the tires due to incorrect alignment?.

17 Suspension problem of the 2011 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

I bought this vehicle in the fall of 2013. I have had multiple occasions where the car fishtails in wet or snowy conditions. I transport 4 children on a daily basis, and this car scares me. I have driven in winter conditions for many years, and I have never experienced the terror this car causes. I have to drive 25-35 mph anywhere I go on wet or even mildly snowy roads or lose control of this car. I also know a few other people who have the same issues I have, with the same car. I have also found many similar complaints online with this vehicle as well as its sister vehicle the Chrysler 200. I do believe a serious investigation needs to be done on this vehicle before anyone is seriously hurt or killed in an accident because of this issue.

19 Suspension problem of the 2013 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

From date of purchase brand new off the lot 2013 Dodge Avenger 3. 6l blacktop edition. Within a few days I started noticing the car would pull to the right. I took it back to the dealership to have the alignment looked at and fixed and they said they re aligned everything and should be fine. After a week I noticed it started to pull to the right again. At that point I took it into a different shop where they actually told me that they can't re align the car based on the fact that how the cars suspension was manufactured and design is faulty to where the alignment will never be able to be corrected and there's nothing they can do. I am military and have moved 2 times since the purchase and have takin the car to several shops and have been told the same. That the alignment is as best as it can get and will always pull to the right based on the design and how it came from the factory. I've had the car for 3 yrs now and have had to buy brand new tires every year while rotating and balancing my tires every 3 months. This is a serious defect and Dodge will not take ownership of the fault and has not provided any help in coming up with a solution to fix the suspensions alignment always being off.

20 Suspension problem of the 2010 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 08/26/2013

I just began having this problem and I am very concerned. There is not a recall yet, however I am hoping with taking the time to report my concerns and problems there will soon be a recall. After about 45 minutes to an hr of driving my vehicle there becomes a clunking noise on the left front end of my car. You can feel the noise/malfunction in the left lower part of the steering wheel while driving. Steering feels shaky and unstable. My vehicle is maintained monthly at the same place each month. The longer you drive the louder the clunking sound. After, realizing this problem was not going away and could become very serious I took it to my local Dodge dealership and was told that there is not a recall issued for this problem and it would cost me about $600. 00 d/t also telling me warranty would not cover it. After, extensive research I have learned that Chrysler themselves have placed a concern in regards to this problem, however are not issuing a recall for this problem and that this is only a problem with vehicles manufactured before 7/2010 which mine was manufactured 8/2010 and I am having this current problem. I am very scared that if this does not get recalled and fixed there are going to be bigger problems than just complaints. I have read several incident reports placed with NHTSA with the same exact problems. With that said why is there nothing being done about this and why should I pay $600+ to get this fixed when this is clearly a Chrysler/Dodge issue and conveniently warranty will not cover this particular malfunction. I have 2 young children and if something happens to us while driving my car after numerous reports have been placed there will be problems bigger than a recall. I am very disappointed in Chrysler/Dodge and not sure that I would buy another Dodge vehicle after this.

21 Suspension problem of the 2011 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

I bought my 2011 Dodge Avenger express used in 2013, a day after I started noticing the rear end fish tailing just going over small bumps. I took it into the dealership and they "saw nothing". Another time I was driving in the rain and lost control of the car because it fish tailed. I was able to regain control without incident I again took it to the dealer and they told me I may need new tires. I bought 4 brand new tires. This "seemed" to help for the first day or so. I brought it back again and they still "don't see anything wrong". I am fearful for my life each and every time I drive this car especially in wet or snowy weather. I have driven in snow and rain for 20 years and have never had this happen to me. I should not have to be afraid to have my children or myself in my car. Please Dodge research this serious safety concern before someone becomes seriously injured or god forbid dies. I can see by the others here that I am not the only one having these same issues.

22 Suspension problem of the 2012 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

It has a manufactures defect in the rear end it has been into the Dodge at least 10 times for this problem Dodge has sent a technician to champaign to look at this problem and he told the mechanics it was a manufactures defect with the rear end and their was no fix known. 23 Suspension problem of the 2012 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 07/19/2013

There are 3 members of this family, usually only 2 are in the car at all times. This time, we had 2 extra passengers in the back plus their car tire that needed repair in the trunk. We were driving and hit a dip in the road, not a big one, and the rear passanger side tire rubbed against the car. It is not the shocks because they are not there to hold up the car, only to absorb the shock. The tire has markings left behind where it rubbed. That is a suspension issue. I have only had the car 4 weeks. The salesman tried to convince me it is a normal thing on all vehicles. I wasn't born yesterday.

13400 miles on car when right rear tire went flat. When I took off flat inside shoulder of tire had worn thru cords. Took to Dodge dealer in covington, TN and they said alignment must be out. Noticed left rear tire also showing steel cords on inner shoulder. Tech said didn't look like car had alignment at factory. Did alignment and alignment was . 03 degrease off on one tire the rest were within spec. Dealership cant explain what happened, no one ive talked to can explain what happened. 2000 miles from home in a new car and have to spend 400. 00 on tires and alignment. . . . . Not happy.

26 Suspension problem of the 2012 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 06/24/2013

In late June got a flat tire. When I went to put on the spare noticed both rear tires had worn thru the steel on the inside shoulder. Took to a local dealership and they told me must be the alignment. Car was just under the 1 year anniversary date but just over the mileage for the warranty. I had to pay for an alignment and new tires. Alignment showed three of the wheels in spec and the fourth . 03 degrees out of spec which the dealer said wasn't enough out to cause that bad of wear on the tires. Contacted Chrysler but no help. Went to oregon in November and got just north of where I was going and stopped for a break and noticed both rear tires were wearing on the inside shoulders like before. Took to dealership another alignment and set of tires that I had to pay for. Alignment was out and had to have camber kits installed to get alignment fixed. Once again no help from Chrysler yet. On my way home from oregon went thru a snow storm, not a lot of snow mostly blowing snow across road. Couldn't go over 32 mph because the rear of the car was swaying so bad. Could hardly keep car on road. Took in to local dealership and they said they need to do another alignment at my cost. Contacted Chrysler once again no help. First set of tires 13400 miles, second set 21400 miles now on third. Waiting for 12/9/13 to get car into shop.

33 Suspension problem of the 2011 Dodge Avenger

Failure Date: 10/22/2012

Front end makes a popping noise from the passenger side on uneven terrain at all speeds. Dealer couldn't find anything and I had the first tire rotation at this time. We took our first road trip (approx 1700 miles round trip) and noticed vibration on trip. Found tire dust covering rear of car and rear fender wells. The rear tires had almost completely worn through the innermost tread. Dealer performed an alignment check, said front was slightly out and corrected it. Left front was -. 7 camber and right front was -. 7. At 1500 miles the dealer finally agreed to replace the tires through the good year prorated warranty, claiming the ware problem was a tire issue. We are now at 18000 miles with no signs of excessive tire wear. Popping noise in front in seems to be getting worse, dealer once stated they tightened the cradle bolts. It had no effect. We again have vibration at highway speed and the rear end wobbles back and forth on uneven terrain.

I have taken the cars back to the dealer on numerous occasions 5 to 6 times and the tech could not find anything wrong. I was driving my kids to school and began to press the gas from the light and it turned off the car behind me almost hit us. I was driving going 10 mph and the car turned off. I was in a school zone. I was at a stop light and it stalls. I cannot understand this and the techs are oblivious also. I have had enough and I just purchased this car.
