Consumer complained about electrical problems. Instrument panel did not work. The instrument cluster was digital. Buttons for air conditioner and rear defroster flashed constantly. Consumer took vehicle to garage, and they recommended Dodge dealer. Also, windshield wipers came on their own. Vehicle did not have to be on running for windshield wipers to come on. They came on about every two weeks. Also, traveling interior lights came on. Consumer stopped lights from coming on by putting tape on door. Consumer believed these were different issues. He replaced fan control module last year, and that did not help. Consumer added that pounding on the dashboard made the dash light illuminate.

Seems to be a common problem for Caravans, safety is definitely compromised without the horn operating properly. Dt.
Fire started while driving. Spread quickly, fully involved total loss. Insurance adjuster familar with Dodge fires. Thank god children weren't in and strapped at the time.
Failure in safety components, horn and airbag also cruise control. Electrical failure where airbag warning indicator light is constantly "on" horn and cruise control components no longer function. Items are out of warranty, but since they involve safety features, a recall for electrical failures in the steering column/dash area is requested. Dt.
No summary. Dt.
First time clockspring failure rendered driver airbag inoperative. Second failure rendered cruise control inoperative. A non-working airbag is a safety issue.
I bought a brand new 2001 Dodge Caravan se and had engine & electrical problems. Just a few months later, while driving over the bridge out of new york city, the car filled up with white smoke of a really toxic smell. Greenish brown fluid leaked out at my feet. Several times I went to have it fixed, all the fluids would leak out of the bottom of the car, I would take it back to only have it happen again. Finally they clamped a hose underneath the car causing fluids to swish back and forth in the dash area shorting out the electrical system and my lights would flash on and off. (very dangerous vehicle with children). Went through the lemon law unit with a judge that did not usually work in that court, and lost the case after paying a lawyer $2000. That went out on disability! I had no justice and stopped paying on the car. It was repossesed and someone else is probably driving around with this car!.

Consumer was driving at 25mph on the highway. He was looking in his rear mirror and he noticed smoke trail. Gasoline was dripping from underneath the pipe, and the car was on fire. When he applied brakes, the car kept moving. The vehicle cut off in the middle of highway traffic going 55 mph due to a faulty fuel pump which the manufacturer replaced. 15 months later fuel began to leak from underneath the vehicle causing fire while the customer was driving.
Dashboard interior light switch (part number p04685630 36033e) started burning when ignition switch was turned on. The unit stopped smoking only after switch was unplugged.

While the vehicle was parked in the off position. A fire took place on the passenger side, burning the whole vehicle.
On the night of October 24, 2002, I purchased a new 2003 Dodge sxt minivan. On October 25, 2002, I discovered exposed electrical wires under both the driver and passenger front seats. When I reported this to the dealer on October 25, 2002, sales and customer service representatives informed me this is the configuration for the new 2003 Dodge Caravan sxt. Daimler-Chrysler made a decision to eliminate what had been storage compartments under the two seats. The driver and passenger chair base has holes drilled to accept storage drawers, however, none are installed. Under both seats one finds an accumulation of exposed electrical wires. I would not have purchased the van had I discovered this the night of the purchase. This is not an isolated incident. On October 25, 2002, the david stanley Dodge sales and customer service people informed me this is standard on the new Caravan stx. In my opinion, this is a significant safety hazard affecting every 2003 Dodge Caravan sxt minivan produced. Consequently, every owner should be notified of this hazard; daimler-Chrysler should correct the problem on all future production, a recall should be made to install drawers to cover the exposed wires or some sort of face plate should be manufactured which could be installed over the opening on the front of the driver and passenger chair base to cover these exposed electrical wires. Again, I repeat this is not an isolated incident. These exposed electrical wires exist on every 2003 Dodge Caravan sxt. By the way, the dealer from whom I purchased the vehicle refused to take any corrective action citing cost as the reason. The dealer's customer service representative acknowledged a safety problem exists. I filed a complaint with the dealer. I urge nhsta to take immediate action on this issue before some catastrophe befalls someone because of the exposed electrical wires on all new 2003 Dodge Caravan sxt minivans. Dt.
While driving horn stopped working, and all dash warning lights came on due to an electrical short under the dash that caused wiring to melt. Dealer said wiring and computer had to be replaced.
When interior lights are turned on, using the dimmer switch setting, while the vehicle is running, the dimmer switch starts to burn, interior lights dim and go off and on, and a electrical fire smell fills the vehicle.
Windshield wipers are inoperable due to defective body control module. Dealer contacted.
Electronic computer failure.
