2001 Dodge grand Caravan. The consumer bought the Caravan three years ago, drove it home about 100 miles and two or three days later the transmission was slipping, had it fixed. About three weeks later the transmission slipped again, took it back to dealer again. They rebuilt the transmission. Subsequently, the transmission failed again. The transmission was rebuilt again. The consumer was told that she could trade the car in for another car in March or April. Then, the dealership changed his mind and stated that consumer could not trade vehicle in right now. The transmission was malfunctioning in July 2005. Took vehicle back to the dealership, the box on the transmission was not telling the transmission when to change gears. The dealership said that the transmission box was not on the warranty, and they wanted $900. 00 to fix it. During a trip the car stopped working. Called the warranty people, they had it towed to a dealership. The dealership looked at the car and said the motor was gone. The warranty paid for a new motor.

12 Engine problem of the 1998 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 03/11/2003

I purchased my vehicle in 2000. Two months later my transmission went. 16 months after that my motor went. I had to let my vehicle sit for nine months not being able to drive it and yet still making payments on it before I could afford to replace to the motor. So 3 weeks ago I had the motor replaced and now my transmission has gone again. Supposedly it was replaced with a factory rebuilt transmission the first time around. This seriously upsets me that the transmission has gone again. I still owe 2 and 1/2 years of payments on this vehicle and I am back to I cannot drive it again because I cannot afford to get it fixed. I was told of some factory problem with the transmissions and I wondered if this could be the reason that my vehicle is out of commission again. For the amount of money this used vehicle is costing me I would have been better off to buy a new one. The vehicle is a 1998 Dodge Caravan.

28 Engine problem of the 1997 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 07/13/1999

First in July the master cylinders on our back brakes were shredded and had to be replaced. This happened as I was driving on a bridge with a car full to teen age girls. In December, I noticed a hesitation and seemingly "jumping into gear" especially in reverse. Brought it to the dealer and although was 2 months out of warranty they declined to pay for it. The job was to cost about $1500. In Feb, we brought the van to a independent service provider, and as he was looking at the engine, he saw the blown head gasket. We did contact Chrysler and were told to bring it to a dealership in our area. Today, we did find out that they would cover the head gasket but not the transmission. There are volumes of internet sites that site specific transmission problems with 90-98 Caravans. These stories could be rubber stamped. During this time, I found about 15 people who are having or had trouble with the transmissions in their vans. Someone needs to make Chrysler responsible for their products. Please help.
