1 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 05/13/2019

Bought the van from cooks Volkswagen on may 7th, 2018. In the first 3 mths of me owning it I had to get 2 motor mounts and a starter put in. Then from that point it was all down hill! it has had 3 transmissions(cooks has done 2 and I took the van to thompson for them to do the third), hub assembly, welded the core support, power steering pulley and baring, struts for the truck hatch, I had to pay for out of pocket for power steering pulley and baring and one day of rental for a rental car! I have already called my lawyer and to have Chrysler/Dodge sued for selling an uninspected vehicle and filing a civil suit against your company!!!! as of may 13,2019 it is in the shop again and have another rental van after getting it back on Friday may 10, 2019 after it's 3rd transmission being installed and tried to drive it down 95 north on may 11,2019 and I got to 6th gear and it went straight into limp mode and had to take it back to thompson's to fix it!.

2 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2014 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 03/30/2019

I have 2 complaints. One is that the driver's side window doesn't always work. It works sometimes and other times does not. It's as if there might be a loose connection or something. The second is that there is a constant ticking noise in the engine. There is no sign of oil leak. I check it regularly. My thought is perhaps a valve or a belt. But I'm not sure. The vehicle still drives. It has not broken down.

4 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2010 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 10/25/2018

This is a 4. 0 engine, and will die out every time in traffic, every time (regardless of outside temperature or dampness). It will restart, but can feel it still wants to cut out, as the tachometer bounces around to 500 rpm, and sometimes almost zero, then 'catches itself' to a normal idle. This is especially concerning because I live near a curved road that drops off into a ravine, and for this reason, my wife won't drive it anymore. This problem has happened at speeds 10-40 mph. It dies out (again regardless if cold or wet outside). I can restart the vehicle, and won't die again, until the engine gets cold again (usually 3 hrs. ). It is unbelievable that once it restarts, it never happens multiple times in same occurrence. Something is telling it to shutdown, which is dangerous. No power steering and brakes have to be pushed hard (no power, and is why my wife won't drive it). I had this diagnosed at m&w service center (a highly rated place). Brookfield Dodge was overbooked, and I felt I needed to get it addressed ASAP. I paid the diagnostics fee. They recalibrated the throttle and cleaned the fuel injection system. They said this a great running vehicle. There is nothing left to do. I already have $370 invested in this problem, it didn't fix it. Prior to the issue, the timing belt and sparkplugs were replaced. It ran great for several months after those components were done. I have had this problem for the last 4 weeks. I am going to have to take this to brookfield Dodge, and pay the diagnostic fee again, and hope they find the problem. It is amazing to see that there are actually dozens of complaints on-line just like mine, and they are saying the problem has not been found. This is not good news for a vehicle that is supposed to be safe for the family. It seems to be engineered to shutdown, instead of just not start, which is dangerous, since 10/25/2018.

12 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1996 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 06/30/2012

This vehicle has a chronic design problem with throwing its sepentine belt whenever the tension pulley gets wet. Soon as the belt is thrown there is no power steering, and it steers 10 times worse than a mack truck. The lack of steering is a definite safety hazard to every other vehicle on the road. As it happens suddenly by driving through a water puddle, etc. There is virtually no time to react. In addition to lack of steering there is no alternator output, resulting in rapid battery drain. Also there is no coolant system fan resulting in rapid engine overheating. This design fault has been known for well over a decade, no make that 2 decades, but Chrysler has never acknowledged a problem. The problem dates back to all Chrysler Mini-van designs from the early 1990s to at least 2000. If the lack of steering is not a safety related defect I don't know what is. We have a used wheelchair conversion Caravan van to transport my wife. This latest incident was the past Saturday night as we left a restaurant to return home. It had been raining profusely and suddenly I had no steering. I knew immediately what the problem was since this is the 3rd occurence in the past 6 months. Do you expect your vehicle to become inoperable just because you drive in the rain? why has not Chrysler been made to acknowledge this problem and issue a repair recall? I don't care if the van is over a decade old. This defect is one which endangers everyone else on the road and which Chrysler should have been required to address well over a decade ago.

16 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 08/15/2011

Serpentine belt slipped off of pulleys after driving over a wet road. Vehicle is a 1999 Dodge Caravan, 3. 0l v6, 4-speed automatic. Within the past two weeks, this has happened two times, both in wet weather. The same issue occurred on a 1996 Dodge Caravan, 3. 0l v6, 3-speed automatic, twice in the same two week period. The idler and tensioner pulleys were replaced on both vehicles with oem-equivalent parts after the first problem with each, yet the problem persists. The belt on the 1996 Caravan also shredded at highway speed during dry weather during this period. When replaced, the belts on both vehicles ride off-center on the pulley for the power steering pump.

19 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2000 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 06/07/2011

Serpentine belt slips off in the rain causing a loss in power steering, ac (for window defogging), power (no alternator when headlights are on during rain). When it slipped off, the ability to correct for loss of traction due to water was reduced due to lack of power steering and the windshield fogged up quickly due to the loss of the ac compressor. Slid of the interstate and slid down the median. Multiple other instances of belt slipping off (4 times in past 3 days), though at lower rates of speed. Dodge denies there is an issue even though there are many reports on the internet relating to this problem. It is also interesting that they now sell a upgrade kit that changes out the two non-grooved pulleys for grooved ones and add a belt with grooves on both sides. They said that they would only fix this problem when enough people reported the problem.

20 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 02/18/2011

I have had repeated shredding of the serpentine belt on my 1999 Dodge Caravan resulting in loss of power steering and systems shutdown (including engine) during driving. This is a serious safety issue and I have read numerous reports of the exact same failure. Brazil has recalled the Dodge minivan for the same failures and Dodge has made a modification kit (2005) for this problem but refuses to date to post a recall in the united states. I have replaced the belts 6 times and the tensioner 3 times in 60,000 miles. I have called Dodge and they have refused to pay for the correction of the problem even though I had the last tensioner and belt put on at the Dodge dealership although they used an old style tensioner not the new kit even though the new kit had been available since 2005 and I had the tensioner replaced in 2009.

The serpentine belt on my 98 Dodge Caravan keeps breaking. When it does, I lose control of the car. I bought the car December 17, 2009 and have had the belt break 4 times since then, causing me near miss accidents and has left me stranded along the highway with my young children.

25 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2007 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 03/08/2010

I am currently the owner of a 2007 Dodge Caravan. On March 8,2010, I noticed oil gushing from the bottom, right hand corner of my 2007 Dodge Caravan. I immediately drove it to the nearest garage to have it looked at. At this point I only had 30,941 miles on the vehicle the repair technician told me I had a blown cam seal. I contacted Chrysler to see if I was still under warranty. Chrysler informed me that my warranty was three years or 36,000 miles and that my warranty had expired on December 6, 2010. The garage replaced the camseal, the head gasket, the timing belt, and the oil pan seal. Less than a month later I had another oil leak in the same area. I drove it back to the same garage that I took it to last time. This time they looked for the underlying cause of my problem. They took out the oil pan and the oil pump and took a look at the crankshaft. The crankshaft was badly dug into and it appeared to be defective straight from the factory. Additionally, there was a defective thrust bearing on the crankshaft. This, they informed me, was causing the crankshaft to wobble or "walk" thereby busting the seal on the oil pump. The garage also informed me that the engine on my Mini-van is also the same one that Dodge put into the neon and the neons were having the same problem. The particular engine in question is a 2. 4l dohc. The garage ordered an after market crankshaft kit and replaced my crankshaft. As a result of both visits to the garage, I have had to spend a total of $1,691. 77 to have my vehicle fixed.

Failure Date: 02/21/2010

Serpentine belt comes off my 2000 Dodge Caravan in snow and rain often.

27 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2000 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 02/11/2010

I have 2000 Dodge Caravan with a 3. 0l engine. Every time it rains or snows the serpentine belt comes off. This causes the power steering to lock up, and the alternator to stop charging. The car is almost impossible to steer. You lose control. The malfunction was corrected using the gates micro v kit. This includes a ribbed belt tensioner, ribbed idler and a double side serpentine belt.

28 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1998 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

The serpentine belt popped off my 1998 Dodge Caravan, it is 02/10/10 -- the day of the blizzard. This happened before on the day of the blizzard in December. This leads to an immediate loss of power steering during the worst possible driving conditions. When I tried to find out what had happened in December, two mechanics at the Dodge dealership both immediately knew what had happened. They said it happens all the time when ice or snow gets up under the car. I believe this is a very dangerous manufacturer's defect. Loss of critical steering capability during the worst possible driving conditions.

29 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1998 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 01/14/2010

The contact owns a 1998 Dodge Caravan. While driving 30 mph the serpentine belt broke. Belt slipped off my 1997 Dodge Caravan. . . . Also when I got home fell from tow truck because of ice !~! but would not of happen if a recall would have happened already look at all those complaints out there. .

32 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2000 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 12/04/2009

The serpentine belt on a 2000 Dodge Caravan slips off when you go through a puddle of water or wet conditions such as in the rain or snow, resulting in complete loss of power steering (loss of control); water pump (overheating and possible damage to the aluminum heads); alternator (no battery charging) and ac. This was after a new belt and tensioner was installed. I have researched the problem and there are numerous incidents sited on related web sites. My wife almost wrecked because of no steering. It happened over a dozen times to her and 4 times to me. Cost of putting belt back on was around $40 each time. Tried a fix using a disc over the tensioner and idle pulley recommended by dealer, but first time through a rain puddle, it slipped off. A $200 fix is available plus $150 labor called a gates kit # 38379k also by goodyear #49215k. They both come with a double sided grooved belt, grooved idle pulley and grooved tensioner and states that it fixes the problem of belts coming off the Dodge vans in wet weather. If this is part of the selling point of the kit, then there must be a problem with Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth vans and the consumer shouldn't have to pay for this "fix. " this is extremely dangerous and should be paid for and corrected by Chrysler.

33 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2000 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 11/17/2009

The belt on my Dodge Caravan sport slipped off in the rain leaving me to drive home without wipers and or blower. Idler pulley should have keepers on the edges so the belt will not slip off.

34 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 10/26/2009

We own a 1999 Dodge Caravan. Three weeks ago we took it in for a check up at a certified mechanics shop. They informed us the tensioner was bent and serpentine driving belt needed replacing. We authorized them to make the repair. We have owned this vehicle since 1994 with no incident. Last Monday we drove through standing water and the serpentine belt was thrown. We lost power steering not to mention that the driving belt powers everything else for the vehicle. Thankfully we were only a short distance out of town and were able to drive back to the mechanics shop. They informed us that indeed this is a problem Dodge minivans have. In the last 2 days we have gone online and found many web forums where this has happened to 1,000's of Dodge/Chrysler owners going back as far as 2002. Dodge has never issued a recall for this known problem and potentially deadly flaw in their engine pulley design. We can buy an aftermarket new designed tensioner and belt at our expense manufactured by 2 separate companies, but Dodge offers nothing to consumers who bought their vehicles thinking they are safe. We would like to see Dodge/Chrysler acknowledge this defect and recall these potential death traps off the road to fix this negligence on their part. Just because people are not dying in crashes because of this (or are they and we just never find out this was the cause) doesn't mean they should not be responsible.

35 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1998 Dodge Caravan

Failure Date: 10/11/2009

I bought a 1998 Dodge Caravan from falls church motors falls church va after a couple of months of driving I started to notice and feel a wobble in the front left drivers front tire a few months later I had a flat while the van was parked it took me and two other men to loosen the lugs on the tire to get of the tire the jack while the van in the air bent and the van fell to the side I pulled one of the men away from the van as I saw it falling toward us we got another jack and got the van back up in the air and put the donut on I than a short time later got on the highway and the donut flew off the van if it were in traffic it could have killed me and other on the highway a couple of month later the timing belt broke and the water pump I thought the van was still under warrant of the extended warranty from falls church motors I later found out it was not they I thought fixed the timing belt it has been running rough ever since the van now while running the motor turns off while any sharp turn to the left or right they said to me in the recent past after I thought they fixed it .
