1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2014 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 08/20/2020

Car shuts off at apporximately 45mph. Almost wreck and then flickers back to normal operating and drive home(5)minutes and park. Will not start back up. Towed the car to a Dodge dealer who replaced the alternator recall and tells me to pick it up. I go pick it up and now it will not change gears, over heats in dealership parking lot and fans will not operate. Dealer keeps car and says it's a bad water pump and thermostat. At this point I do not trust dealer and replace the water pump, thermostat, idler pulley, temp sensor, belt tensioner myself. Start car and sounds great but overheats again. Now will not start at all. I see many many complaints about this and Dodge does nothign because it is out of warranty. Note to self. . . . Goverment still not protecting the little guy. Side note. . . . Will never buy another Dodge!.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2013 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 12/12/2019

I was driving my car like normal for the past 2/12 years. It's a 2013 Challenger 5. 70. My car went dead while driving. I lost control of the car, but, thank god I didn't hit anything or anyone. I ran tests on my car battery, it's good. Interesting note: I had the alternator replace six months ago on a factory recall. The Dodge dealer told me it's not the alternator, though replaced it anyway. They said it's the power steering pump and electric problem due to a wire not communicating to the bus or computer. (don't know what that means I'm not a car guy) however, I also own a 2006 Chrysler 300 that did the same thing to me on the freeway while I was driving 70 mph. Could have died both times. At this point, I don't know it Dodge is simply making cheap parts or Dodge service is trying to turn a 2nd alternator replacement into a profit. I say this because I was able to disconnect the batter, then reconnect it to pull forward on the tow truck now they are telling me the car dies when they reassemble it. I also say this because they are telling me the pump is damaged yet I'v had work done there before with no indication of a problem. I've had work and repairs done including smog checks within the last year with no negative readings indicating a problem or miscommunication. I see recalls on the electric system, power steering pump and alternator yet none based on my VIN. Meanwhile browning Dodge wants to charge me $1800 bucks.

8 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2012 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 09/09/2019

I initially got my alternator changed by my own mechanic before there was any recall on the alternator. Then some time last year 2018 I took my car in for the recall on the air bags. While my car was at Dodge they notified me that the recall on my alternator still hadn't been cleared since I never changed it with Dodge so I was like what the heck why not just get a brand new one through Dodge this time while they're repairing whatever needed to be done with my air bags. Fast forward to July of 2019 I took my car in to Dodge dealership for some shaking while my foot was on the break and for the gears not properly shifting. My rpms were going way too high before the next gear would shift. Service at dealership claimed to fix the issue but I was back a week later because my check engine light came back on. After leaving it there another several days they said they found the actual issue so now I shouldn't be having any problems. ( something was misfiring , a coil was changed etc. ) now sept of 2019 my car decided to stop on me while driving on the freeway almost killing me. My entire dashboard went crazy check engine light went off, air bags light, steering wheel , no key fob detected all while loosing power. Thankfully I made it off the exist with just enough power to get to a gas station right off the freeway before my car completely turned off on me. I took the battery to get checked it was completely dead, recharged it car started fine then went back to doing the exact same thing with warning signs all over the dashboard and leaving me again. I bought a brand new battery and still wont turn on. Being that I experienced something similar the first time my alternator went out I am pretty sure this is the same exact thing. I have had nothing but issues with this car since I got it will be taking it back to dealer but I no longer feel comfortable driving this vehicle.

16 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2014 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 07/09/2018

Abs and traction control light came on after starting the car. A few days later, the lights are still on but is making a loud clicking sound when making tight right turns. Day after the clicking, the check engine light came on while driving 45 mph. The car was still on but with no acceleration. Pressing on the gas peddle would rev the engine with no progress. I stopped the car, turned it off and checked my fluids under the hood. All looked fine. After restarting the car, it would run then lose acceleration again. Car then became unresponsive and towed to the dealer. The dealer has had the car for 2 days and still don't know what is wrong. Service adviser said the car is not "communicating. " I am currently paying for a rental out of pocket. Fca said there are no recalls based on my VIN. Based on my research, it sounds like the p60/alternator recall.

17 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2013 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 07/08/2018

The vehicle suddenly started smoking, immediately followed by fire while I was stopped at a red light in the middle of town. My 2013 Dodge Challenger only had 20,000 miles on it, and all service was done as recommended by Dodge, at a certified shop. I reported the issue to Dodge, and they denied any manufacturing defect, despite the fact that there is a recall for my model, because of known issues regarding alternators overheating, or short circuiting, causing thermal diode fatigue. The car was consumed by flames within minutes, and was deemed a total loss by my insurance company. I have not yet received a settlement.

18 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2010 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 05/25/2018

During its most recent scheduled oil change on may 25, 2018, the Dodge service department indicated that my 2010 Challenger srt8 with 56,000 miles has an oil leak that is leaking from the front of the crankshaft and the Dodge Challenger serpentine/drive belt is spraying oil all over the place under the hood, on the engine and directly into the alternator which the Dodge service department indicated could cause a fire! I contacted fiat Chrysler automobiles customer care (case number 34409843) and provided detail with after 5 customer care agents on 5 separate occasions promising me a callback (never received) wished me good luck with having Dodge address the engine oil leak / fire hazard. I have inquired with two other local Dodge dealership service departments and both indicated that they have never seen this type of issue on a 2010 Dodge Challenger srt8. On July 3, 2018, I once again contacted fiat Chrysler automobiles customer care and was advised that case number 34409843 was unilaterally closed by a supervisor without contacting me or the Dodge dealership service department that performs all maintenance on my 2010 Dodge Challenger srt8. Accordingly, I requested and the fiat Chrysler automobiles customer care representative opened up a new case (case number 34660813) case number 34409843 05/25/2018-gabriel employee id gw373 06/13/2013-jake employee id jr2692 06/20/2018-robert employee id rc2336 06/20/2018-lauren employee id luw551 07/03/2018-janelle (refused to provide employee id) case number 34660813 07/03/2018-doaa employee id dh1013 since the service visit on may 25, 2018, I have not been able to drive my vehicle for fear that it will catch fire.

21 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2014 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 01/05/2018

My vehicle is apart of the t36 recall for faulty alternators; my alternator died last Friday while I was driving it on the road, I was able to get to a safe place before it actually died, but due to there being no "genuine parts" available I am stuck paying for a rental. I am active duty air force stationed in england, and the garage on base can order a new alternator and install it, but I have been told by the mopar certified garage off base that since the part is not a genuine part then I am unable to recieve a reimbursement. I verified this with the military auto sales main office in germany and was told that I could still submit the receipts with hopes of being reimburssed. Before I tell the garage on raf lakenheath to go ahead with ordering the part I wanted to hear from this office if I will be reimbursed or not. Keep in mind my only mode of transportation is dead and I am paying for a rental out of pocket, if the genuine parts were to become available within the next week I could hold out and wait but the longer I wait the more it seems like just taking the part that is available is the cheaper option as there is no date on when genuine parts will become available. Thank you, mason blackmore.

23 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2013 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 12/03/2017

Smart glass draining battery, takata inflator recall, timing chain recall and alternator recall in Dec 2017 my Dodge Challenger 13 ran out of battery & was towed to a repair shop. There were 2 recalls, one being an alternator, causing the battery to drain and not able to be jumped. After 1. 5 months of talking to Chrysler fca recalls about how to get the recall work complete, my car arrived at covert Dodge in austin in Jan 2018 (I paid for tow out of pocket). From Dec to Mar 20th, I was without a car and covert /fca would not put me in a rental while waiting on back ordered parts. On Mar 20th, they put me in a rental vehicle. Apr 20th fca called to tell 1) all 3 recalls have been addressed 2) the Smart glass window module, which is actually what is causing the battery to drain, is still on backorder (eta may 29, but not a firm eta and this part has been on backorder since Jan) but the car can be driven without operable windows, 3) I need to return the rental in 2 days and pick up my car. I stated that it is unsafe to drive a car with inoperable windows (getting pulled over and having to open my door to talk to the police, extremely hot weather in texas and not being able to open the windows, little kids and car sickness, unable to use drive-through anything, etc). The service manager stated that he can't comment on safety, but the car is drivable. The case manager at fca said that she can only address safety concerns in bulletins from fca. The Smart glass window module has been on back order for me since Jan 2018 and no confirmed eta. This part has been recalled on 2012 and 2011 Challenger and multiple other mopar part cars. There is a long list of people waiting for this part (probably 1000s), many due to a recall. In the meantime, I'm expected to use my car without working windows - meaning windows have to be closed and can not open.

24 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2014 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 11/15/2017

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that there had been an electrical failure that progressed with the internal and external lights flickering, various warning indicators flashed on the instrument panel and when the push button start was applied the vehicle had shut off and at times it may not start. In addition, the dealer perris valley Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram, 707-a e 4th st, perris, CA 92570, (951) 657-7371 made no specific diagnosis to verify if this was a 160, 180 or a 220 amp alternator concerning NHTSA campaign numbers: 17v435000 (electrical system), 14v634000 (electrical system) was informed by the dealer that the vehicle was excluded while experiencing the failure related to the recall. 25 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 11/09/2017

Driving down a city street at night alternator stops working. Everything electrical shuts off - able to roll mostly into a turning lane in the middle of the street before it stopped. Everything electrical turns off - no lights -other drivers cannot see the car. Left in a very vulnerable unsafe position - I could have been seriously injured. Unable to shift into neutral to push out of road. Left in a very unsafe position. Called tow truck who was able to get there before anything bad happened. Learned of the recall over the internet - I was never notified of a recall. If I had know there was a recall, I would have repaired the car - I never would have driver this car if I had known. Dodge does not have a "fix" in place so I must repair the car on my own and wait until they get it figured out over at Dodge.

26 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2014 Dodge Challenger

28 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 10/02/2017

Car stalls right after initial starting attempt 50% of time. Must cycle the starting button three times to get the car to start. Occurs randomly hot or cold. No engine codes occur. Dealer has no idea what the problem is but suggests that it might be the key fobs or something called a "win" module. The problem began right after an alternator failure. I am not willing to invest money in repairing this issue unless there is a clear manufacturer strategy to fixing the problem.

29 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 09/22/2017

The alternator in my 2011 Challenger failed. I took the vehicle to a private repair facility. They tried to order a replacement alternator, and the dealership would not release them the part, claiming they, the dealership, must perform the repair. This is not what the recall letter states, nor can or will the dealership perform this repair in a timely manner. My car has been down since 9/22, and the dealer will not perform the repair until 10/5.

32 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2012 Dodge Challenger

Failure Date: 08/24/2017

Reference: t36 recall incident: on 22 August 2017 my vehicle shut down during operation, the ac began pushing warm air, and the electrical system experienced a complete failure. The alternator was smoking, and I called a tow truck to bring my vehicle to my resident dealer (ourisman Dodge of alxandria, va). The dealer requested $1100 for repairs, and I took the opportunity to conduct research, where I learned of the pending t36 recall, and other customer complaints. Customer service 1: I contacted Chrysler customer service on 23 August, and informed them of the pending t36 recall. They described that they had no awareness of such a recall. I called again on 24 August at 1:00 am est when I realized my VIN now reflected the t36 recall. The customer service representative informed me that I would incur no costs, and provided me with a reference number is case there were any issues (32257716). Customer service 2: I was informed on the morning of 24 August by the dealer that I would have to pay the repair costs because the t36 recall parts were not manufactured, and were not expected to arrive until October. I called customer service, and was told I would have to pay the repair costs for a faulty alternator, would have to request a reimbursement, and would then need to wait for the recall. When I insisted on an explanation, I was eventually told that Dodge wanted to reserve the right to refuse a reimbursement. When I clarified, and explained she was describing a loophole, she confirmed. She refused to let me talk to her supervisor, to provide a summary of the discussion like the previous service rep had, and made many other false claims as to her ability to document the matter. Clearly, most alarming, is Dodge/Chrysler's admittance that they are trying to avoid reimbursement fees. Please contact me for additional information into the experience.
