My alternator had a sudden failure that left my stranded in the middle of the road. My cat started slow, but I ran a systems check and no alerts showed on the dash. I started driving down a major hwy when my abs light flashed on and off once. I pulled to the safest place I could find on the road and turned my car off and tried the restart. Car would not start and I was stranded. I finally had someone stop and jump me off. I drove directly to the shop and had my battery replaced. The next day as I am driving to work my battery charging system light comes on. I once again get left stranded.

The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Challenger. After driving the vehicle, the contact parked in the garage. The contact noticed smoke emerging from the engine compartment. The hood was opened and the contact discovered that the alternator was smoking. The vehicle failed to start afterwards. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was determined that the alternator needed replacement; however, it was not part of the warranty. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,072.
Tracktion light came on(little car with tire tracks) then dead, won't hold a charge. Excact same thing is happing to thousands. Alternator replaced @ Dodge/$1,000. There's a recall, (p60) 2011-2014/Dodge Challenger's the alternater 160 amp is defective! so why did I have to pay???? because (they) are only replacing them on 3. 6 l engines not 5. 7 l like mine!so I guess it's only defective when u have a smaller engine? I paid more$ for my engine so I guess they think a defective alternator is going to some how work? well it dosnt! my question is did they put the new and improved alternator on mine? or do I just have to pray this one dosnt go out again, on the freeway again and cause a huge accident! ever been coming down the grapevine at 70 mph and your car goes dead? no steering no brakes, it's like an e ticket ride at disneyland😳so if u buy a Challenger make sure u get 3. 6l because they replace the defective alternator for free! if you don't cause an accident first! no one seems to b worried about this, but if u own a Challenger be careful. . . . . . . I can't really answer the questions on form, they are yes and no,,,,,,,,, this whole thing is very grey.

The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, all of the vehicle warning lights illuminated and the engine stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. It was unknown if the repair was performed. The failure mileage was 73,973.
Hello, I purchased a 2012 Dodge Challenger sxt from clovis Chrysler Dodge August 2013. Since that time, I have had the alternator, which is on recall be replaced by clovis Dodge in February of 2015 as well as February of 2017. I attempted to trade-in my vehicle on 02/13/17, but the dealership made me aware that there was another recall for my vehicle for the front passenger airbag inflator, NHTSA recall #16v-352: takata recall. The dealership advised me that they do not take recall vehicles as a trade in. My vehicle continues to have electrical problems and now I am in a position where I cannot trade in my vehicle . I am trying to get a new vehicle due to having a baby on the way and now this car puts me into a position to where I spend thousands of dollars to fix it when I need to get rid of it, or I just keep it and wait for it to continue to break down. I'm not sure what else to do.
The vehicle lost complete power while driving, was told it was the alternator (which was recalled). I had that fixed and a couple days after that both windows started to malfunction. They go down about a quarter inch by themselves while the car is not running and while driving. It completely drains my battery and the vehicle won't start without a jumper box or jumper cables (every time I turn it off. ) I've taken the vehicle to frank shoop twice and they can't tell me what's wrong with it or have yet to fix it. Now it's starting to stall while driving and the horn continues to honk without being prompted, the battery has to die before the horn stops. The radio hasn't worked since the alternator was fixed. This vehicle only had 32,000 when I purchased it and has been nothing but trouble since.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that the alternator malfunctioned, which caused the steering wheel to lock up. The dealer diagnosed that the alternator did not have enough voltage. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,000.
My 2011 Dodge Challenger completely loss power when I was driving to work on the throughway. All the warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator gone out and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system); however, the VIN was not included. Dealer said it was the same alternator that was on the challanger recalled but it was not covered under the recall.
Electrical system: alternator::once push to start ignition is activated vehicle will begin to run and then stall without warning. It has stalled while driving down the street almost nearly causing an collision! vehicle has stalled more than 10 times since purchase. Battery checked and was checked and passed x3 checks. Alternator was checked and voltage reg failed x3.
While driving my 2011 Dodge Challenger r/t all of a sudden all of the interior lights just lite up like a christmas tree. I was able to slow down and stop the car and then I proceeded to turn off the car. As I was trying to determine what happened I then opened the hood and saw the alternator smoking like it had just caught fire or over heated. The smoke cleared and I tried starting the car but it would not crank. I had to have the car towed. This happened without warning.
The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power and there was a burning odor present. All the warning indicators illuminated. The contact did not observe smoke. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator burned out and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
Alternator failure at 57000 miles. No power, and smoke.

My 2012 Challenger rt v8 alternator went out at about 51,000 miles. It cost $600 to replace, but 7 weeks later I am getting a low voltage alert again. I had it tested and the alternator failed. I'm afraid this car is going to die in the middle of an intersection. The v6 was recalled for alternator problems. I have seen where several owners of v8's have complained of the same thing I have (lights dimming, windshield wipers causing radio lights to dim, whining sound under hood, random low voltage alerts on radar detectors, then suddenly the car stops running, everything shuts down); no recall has been published for the v8 but I feel we are experiencing the same problems.
I have been trying to get a safety recall repaired on my Dodge Challenger's alternator for the last four months from south pointe Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge located on 9240 s memorial dr, tulsa, ok 74133. I've called the dealership on five different occasions each time no information can be given to me on why my recall isn't being repaired or how long it will take. The last time I called on 6/22/16 I had to leave a message with the service manager, that has still not returned my call. I'm getting the run around at this dealership and feel as if my safety and the safety of others is not important to them. I would think something as serious as my alternator failing causing my vehicle to shutdown while I'm driving or an under hood electrical fire would be of concern but apparently it isn't to south pointe. Please help me get this recall repaired before someone is seriously injured due to the rapid alternator failure that I may experience with my vehicle.
Alternator failed on my drive home from work (mix of highway and city roads) and also damaged the battery. Required tow and replacement of battery and alternator. It's not just the 3. 6 because mine is a 5. 7 and I read others had it happen too.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Challenger. While at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled without warning and failed to restart. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the alternator was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but did not assist since the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 36,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that the battery had to constantly be charged and the vehicle failed to start due to the failure. The contact was left stranded more than once. In addition, the front passenger window went up and down on its own and was draining the power to the electrical system. The contact later received an unknown recall notice to service the alternator assembly. The vehicle was taken to autonation Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram albany (701 e oglethorpe blvd, albany, GA 31705, (229) 518-3095) for the repair. Shortly afterwards, the driver's window began going up and down on its own and drained the power. The dealer diagnosed that further repairs were required. The contact reported the failures to the manufacturer before and after the recall repair to indicate that the remedy failed to provide a solution. The manufacturer provided no solution other than having the dealer replace the latch to the doors. The manufacturer issued 17 tsbs for the electrical and three electrical recalls. The failure mileage was not available.
Driving in rush hour traffic on a busy city street had an alternator issue on date listed above in my 2011 Dodge Challenger with only 34,500 miles. The abs, trac control, battery saver, seat belt and other dashboard lights came on and off then the car shut down and would not restart. Battery is less than one week old. As I am out of warranty, and aware of a recall on alternators in certain 2011 Chrysler vehicles I called Chrysler and they took an incident report and conceded to me that although the alternator is the same manufacturer, voltage, model and part number they would not honor the open recall because my engine is the v8 5. 7 liter and not the v6 model. I am worried the dealer will also fail to honor the recall and not repair my vehicle. This is despite the fact that I had taken my car to the dealer several months prior and asked them to check on a loud whining noise coming from the engine compartment. I believe that noise was the failing alternator. They told me the noise was a result of my removing the plastic engine cover the car came with- what nonsense. The p60 recall needs to be expanded to all 2011 Dodge Challengers using this alternator not just the v6 models.
I have 39,000 miles on my v-8 hemi 5. 7. The car began making a whining noise in November 2015. Dealer found nothing. Headlights would dim and windows became sluggish to roll up/down. January 30, 2016 it wouldn't start. Thank god it was parked at the time because everything went dead and immobile. I told the dealer to check the alternator (I'm not a mechanic) and they found the alternator was bad. I've been told there is a weak "clutch" plate or pulley in these alternators and some are beefing this area up on the rebuilts but still only guarantee them for 3 years. The v-6 has a recall on the exact same alternator and I feel the v-8 for this year should be included. With labor the dealer wanted 590. 32 to repair as it wasn't included under my extended warranty with moss bros. Unreal! how can you recall an exact same part for one and not the other?.
My son was driving on a busy road in the city going strait ahead and noticed the battery light had come on, very quickly he then noticed smoke coming from the front of the car, under the hood. Fortunately he was able to quickly exit the roadway and get into a parking lot. He opened the hood and more smoke came out. He called me (his father) and explained the situation. I asked if it was on fire and cautioned him to get back and to let it cool down. He let it cool down and attempted to restart the car. The car had no electrical power at this time. Door locks and trunk latch would not function. After putting the key in the ignition and realizing the car was completely dead he attempted to remove the key from the ignition and the car would not release the key, therefore he was forced to leave the key in the car unattended and eventually towed for service. I have concerns about the safety of this situation given that if he would not have been able to exit quickly the car could have caught fire or completely lost power/control while he was stuck in the roadway. Apparently the car alternator got hot enough to destroy it and the battery. After searching the internet there are numerous reports of this same problem and subsequent recall of later year models of this exact same alternator with a slightly different engine model(NHTSA 14v-634) recall number p-60 alternator. I have called Dodge/Chrysler and filed reports/complaints with them. I have attached repair invoice confirming the issue explained. I believe this vehicle should fall under the same recall as later year models due to unsafe and dangerous potential of mechanical failure. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the engine stalled while all the lights illuminated. The vehicle was not able to restart. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,666.
My 2011 Dodge charger v8 has less than 45k miles and my alternator went out this week, I did research to find out there is a recall but only on the v6 engine, not the v8. The v6 and the v8 models have the same 160amp alternator, both the models need to be added to the recall.
Strange noise coming from engine , resulting in power failure. I was able to pull over to a gas station and call aaa. Aaa gave my battery a jump but they told me that the alternator is dying and unable to recharge battery. Looks like there's a recall for 3. 6l engine for alternators, but I have a r/t v8 and I'm having the same issue. This should also be included in the recall as this is dangerous and sounds like the exact same issue .
I have had this car for 7 years and have only just turned it over 50k miles. Just recently the car started to make a whining noise the the battery warning light came on. After turning the car off and then back on the light turned off but would come back on after a few miles. Checked out where the noise was coming from and it was the alternator. I have noticed that the 160 amp alternator has been recalled on the 2011-12 3. 5l engines for these cars. As I have the same alternator in my car. I was wondering if they are also being checked. This car is also a show car that has won 9 trophies and 4 medals, it is beyond belief that the alternator would fail so quickly for a car that is extremely well maintained. I drive this car at 4:30 a. M. To go to work and when the warning light comes on the headlights dim slightly.
The car died while driving down a city street losing all power and functionality. I recieved a safety recall notification for the alternator at the beginning of the month, I am assuming that is the issue.
Dodge Challenger rt alternator drained battery until the car shut down while I was in motion. Lost all power brakes and power steering.
Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the battery sensor light would illuminate. The vehicle taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the diode in the alternator was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 66,000. Jft.
I was driving my vehicle and was waiting to make a left turn at the intersection. My battery appeared to be losing power and I lost my power steering. I believe the alternator went bad which led to the battery dying while driving, causing me to lose power. This was dangerous as I could have lost power and may have caused an accident. I will be taking it to a mechanic to get the alternator replaced. I see Dodge has some recalls on alternators but not sure if it applies to my vehicle.
The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Challenger. While reversing at a low speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer who diagnosed that the alternator and the battery needed to be replaced. The alternator was replaced, but the battery was not. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was 58,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I have 2 recalls pending on my Dodge Challenger, one for front airbags failing and one for the alternator diodes possibly causing fire. Dodge wants to take my car for 2 days but I have no other vehicle. I asked how was I supposed to get home, they said a bus or taxi. I am not taking a taxi an hour ride to get home, then to and from work because they want to recall my car, so I asked for a loaner and was told no. I keep calling their recall assistance center, and they tell me that their system is down and to call back at another time. How is their system always down? why do I have to spend money out of pocket on a temporary vehicle so they can fix their own recall? I can't afford to rent a car or use a taxi (busses dont run through my area). So I take off of work and possibly get fired, or continue to drive a defective vehicle and possibly die?.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Dodge Challenger. The contact received NHTSA recall campaign 14v634 (electrical system) and while driving the vehicle to the dealer for the repair the vehicle completely shut down. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and it was determined that the cpu may have been destroyed from the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired and the contact felt the failure occurred because of the delay in the manufacturer making the part to do the repair available. The manufacturer would not repair the cpu under the recall even though the dealer stated the recall failure to the alternator caused the failure. The current mileage was 44300. Rl.
