The Dodge Charger has a critical design flaw on the top of the fuel pump located below the drivers side passenger seat. The fuel pump housing cover is prone to cracking and thus results in fuel leaking outside the fuel pump and the surrounding areas. The fuel leaking will occur regardless of if the vehicle is stationary or in motion. The poorly designed fuel pump cover does very little to contain the fuel inside the fuel pump and creates a very dangerous situation where petrol is being leaked into many different areas that can easily result in vehicle fires and death. My Dodge Charger is in very good condition and this fuel leak had nothing to do with vehicle maintenance or driving habits. The fuel pump is simply designed in a reckless manner which has already resulted in multiple vehicle fires and death in Dodge Chargers and Dodge challengers. I urge you to please act swiftly in recalling and resolving this matter before more lives are lost.

Fuel tank right side under rear passenger seat has a leak. Every time the vehicle is filled with gasoline, the fuel leak starts and goes away after half the tank is used. It's located right at the top of the fuel pump. The fumes of the gas can be smelled inside the cab because its directly located under the seat. This is an occurring problem with this year of Chargers and is dangerous hazard.

Fuel pump (top) under the rear passenger seat develops leaks and spills fuel into and explosive fumes into the passenger area of the car. In researching the problem on google I'm finding this is a very common problem with the 2011 Dodge Charger. If this is such a widespread and dangerous problem I cannot for the life of me understand why NHTSA has not issued a recall? problem occurs after a fill up. Discoloration on the pump shows the extent/volume of gasoline pouring out into the interior floor pan.
2007 Dodge Charger 5. 7 170,000+ miles stalling immediately or shortly after fueling without warning while in drive. Identical to same issues in the 2006 models. Car is in motion each time it has stalled on city streets in heavy traffic. Car threw evap canister codes. Components were repaired but car continued to stall after ever full tank of gas. Car threw evap leak code. No leaks found. Fuel pump was checked and tank checked for over flow. No leaks. No gas smell. Fuel pump and evap system ruled out as cause. The issue seems to be with the tank itself.

The auxiliary fuel pump fail and leaked into the rear right hand passenger compartment. I have spoken to the dealer and manufacture and no one is willing to help with the very big fire hazard . The leak happens when the car is filled with fuel and the tank has ore the half a tank of fuel.
Every now and then I have an oder of fuel in the cabin and then its gone right away. This has happened 4-5 times in the past six months is there a fuel pump problem or a leak with these cars.
Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph when the battery service and check engine warning lights had illuminated on the vehicle. The fuel meter fails to read correctly. The contact took the vehicle took the dealer (rick hendrick Jeep Chrysler Dodge ram fiat 8333 rivers Ave, north charleston, SC 29406; (843) 639-5475) who diagnosed the pcm failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle's fuel pump assembly, battery alternator, spark plugs, fuel pump, heating hoses, pcm, and thermostat. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and referred them to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage160,000. Gl.

The connector to the fuel pump overheats causing the plastic housing to melt its way into the fuel tank. Fuel leaks under the rear seat and the fumes fill the car. I purchased a new fuel pump assembly and it came with a wiring harness and connector. There was overheating mentioned with the installation instructions, so this is not a new problem. How can gas under the rear seat not be a major concern?.
-the sunroof will not always close all the way. It will reopen itself upon exiting -my car stalls often whenever I accelerate, it seems the gas has to "catch up" this uncomfortable/unsafe. ) home. Also, it is embarrassing for my car to 'conk out'. - I am currently broken down due to the fuel pumps' incorrect assertions of gas. Disappointed andneed assistance to repair said issues. Thank you.

I've had a recurring issue with a fuel smell in my vehicle . Turns out most Dodge Chargers have defective fuel pumps and lucky us there are 2 at almost 700 dollars together from napa . Why hasn't this issue been recalled? it can cause major damage to the engine if fuel gets in the oil. Major safety concern gas vapors should never be in cabin !!!!.
As reported on at least 7 other cars, the electrical connection on top of the fuel pump heated up so much a hole was melted in the plastic allowing fuel to escape the tank and sit in a puddle under the back seat. The odor of gas was too strong to remain in the car. Police patrol unit, natchez police, #260. This vehicle was serviced by the city barn 3/1 and no problem was detected. The problem became noticed over the weekend. The attached picture shows the heat scorching within the electrical connection and the invasive hole around the right most pin.

I have been smelling gas inside of the cabin of my car for a while usually only in the morning or after my car has been sitting a while. Finally this morning, 2/5/2019, the smell was so bad that I had a headache and my eyes were burning and so took it to an auto mechanic shop to look at it. They stated there was a puddle of gasoline sitting on my fuel pump that is under the passenger side seat. That is the side my daughter sits on and she has been complaining of headaches as well. The repair shop said that if I were to have gotten into a wreck and there had been a spark of some sort my car would have gone up in flames because there was a pool of gasoline sitting on the fuel pump.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the fuel pump and electrical system failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.
I smelled gas when I filled my car up with gas. I looked online and seen other complaints and where to find where the smell was coming from. I lifted up the rear seat and there was fuel sitting on top of the fuel pump right under the seat. There is no protection between the seat and fuel pump. So now my check engine light is on which is deactivating my remote start. I feel like this should be a recall and I should not have to pay to have this fixed. It's very dangerous.
Car is having a fuel leak from the top plastic part that connects the fuel lines to top of the passenger fuel pump. This seems to be a common problem from the research I have done and it is a huge fire hazard. These cheap plastic parts with little protection other than just the seat should not be happening. I am afraid to drive my car as there are multiple stories of people being burned alive due to fuel leaks.
While inside the vehicle, occupants smell a very strong odor of gasoline. Checked fuel pumps under back seat and there was a puddle of fuel on top of the driver side fuel pump. Upon further inspection found the fuel to be coming out of the electrical connector for the driver side fuel pump. All seals were still good. The connectors were burnt out and the plastic was melted. This has happened on several vehicles in our fleet. (approx 20). The smell is consistent once the connector is melted.
Fuel leaks after fuel tank is filled parked or driving, strong fuel smell while driving, check engine light comes on. Inspected vehicles. . (this is the 3rd 2016 Charger in our fleet that has had this concern) found fuel pump cover plate has a hole burnt in it next to and around fuel pump electrical connector. I have included pictures of two fuel pump covers. . Note: vehicles had between 45,000-72,000 miles.
Malfunction indicator light has come on twice in past month. First time a vacuum cannister was replaced. The 2nd time I told the dealer that I also smelled gas. I was told the the right fuel pump is "cracked" and a replacement will cost over $900. My car has only 35,000 miles on it. After seeing all of the other complaints about this, why hasn't a recall been issued?.
Auxiliary fuel pump module recently started leaking. (behind passenger seat) after closer inspection the top of the fuel pump is leaking. . . The plastic itself. Not the line or connection. I have seen numerous complaints and there is does not seem to be a recall. This happens whenever my car is running.
When I fill my tank, the fuel pump under the back seat on the passenger side over fills and leaks raw gasoline into the cab. I have looked online and found hundreds of people with 2011 and 2012 Chargers with the same problem. Second I had a head light go out on the passenger side. I replaced the bulb and still isn't working, checked the fuses and those are, good to. Maybe it's a faulty wire harness. Also found people online with the same issue.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that there had been a strong odor of fuel progressing outside the vehicle, inside the vehicle however there was no presence of an external link. The dealer (benson Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram, 400 w wade hampton blvd, greer, SC 29650, (864) 877-0161) stated that both fuel pumps needed to be replaced after inspecting that there was a crack on one of two fuel pumps which were near the rear back seat. The padding was saturated with fuel which and leaked into the rear interior with no warning. The dealer replaced the left and right side fuel pump however, the contact was uncertain as to why the plastic had cracked, if the material was structurally unsound and if the same oem parts had been replaced without an newly designed oem part from the manufacturer. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had issued 3 fuel system TSB but no fuel system recall to address the structural failure with the plastic fuel pumps (2). The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
When driving down the interstate (August 2017 with 130k miles on the dash) I suddenly lost throttle response and I could not accelerate. At this point motor began to shake as I coasted to the edge as my car shut off while still in the run position. A red lighting bolt appeared and my vehicle did not want to start. After attempting to start several times the car finally started. Took it to a dealer in garden city michigan where they could find nothing wrong. The lighting bolt light was gone and only a check engine light remained. Fast forward two months later the same thing happened but I could not get the car to start and it was towed to the same dealer with a dead battery this time. They kept it for several days but could not pin point the issue I. E. Bad throttle body, bad fuel pumps etc. However no codes were found because the battery died. The week before thanksgiving same situation, lost throttle response car shut off got the red bolt , battery died. Towed to aaa where I had to purchase a new battery and again no codes were found. Again this happened today while on the interstate traveling at about 80mph. Are there any tips or documentation of similar problems with the red bolt light? ive had dealership mechanics with 30+ years experience get lost with this issue. They have comes up with options but nothing concrete. I will soon be force to start guessing and checking or just get rid of the vehicle all together.
For two years now, fuel leaks from my tank after every fill up. When stationary it creates a gas puddle. There is a strong fuel smell in my garage when tank is more than half full. Many other 2011 Chargers are having this issue as well. A mechanic online has stated it is due to a cracked auxiliary fuel pump module that should not be this damaged under normal use.
Shortly after I purchased a new vehicle I noticed a strong fuel smell outside and inside my car and when the air was on the smell was coming through the air vents. I brought it in the dealership and they smelled the gas outside the car. They pulled up my backseats and there was a puddle of gas that leaked from the fuel pump. They replaced the fuel pump and a few days after getting my car back when I filled up my tank again the same thing happened and this time it was leaking gas from the bottom of my car. After that 2nd repair I got my car back again a few days later after I filled up my tank and the same thing happened. The 3rd time they ended up replacing the gas tank. The car still has a strong gas smell that causes me to have headaches, dizziness, and nausea. I do not feel safe in my car because lately since I've been having these problems with the car leaking gas I've been getting alot of static shock when I touch my car.

After fueling my vehicle above 3/4ths (but not over full) a fuel leak started causing extreme fuel vapors to be present inside and outside of car. Even when the car is not being driven (while vehicle is turned off). The fumes are so strong that they fill my garage and can be smelled from 40 - 50 feet away and I have to drive with the windows down. This is a serious safety concern. Many other forums have been read for me to realize this is not an isolated incident, is common among this make/model/year, and should be cause for a recall for safety reasons before something bad happens (fire, explosion, etc). Most say the observed a leak in front of the rear passenger tire. Others have said they pulled out the back seat to access the fuel pump and have found gas sitting on top of the fuel pump. I have not had this looked at by a mechanic/dealership yet, but wanted to ensure this is reported and needs to pushed for recall consideration.
The wiring harness above the fuel pump became hot enough to melt a hole in the top of the fuel tank cover and allow fuel to escape out of the tank, under the back seat, through the electrical connection. This was reported to a dealer, 6/20/17, who replaced the wiring harness and fuel pump. This was the second of now 7 cars, this one being called unit 258.
When tank is filled, a strong fuel odor occurred inside car, along with a puddle directly in front of right rear tire. Dealership first "fixed" secondary fuel pump but problem recurred at next fill up. Subsequently the primary fuel pump was replaced. It is extremely fortunate this did not result in a fire or death with my kids riding in this car on a daily basis. Dodge knows about issue as tons of complaints can be found on line. . Read more...
When I fill the car up and it stops the fuel pump automatically, I close the gas cap and start the car. When I drive off it will stall. It will start back up right after but I have been making a turn after leaving the gas station and the car has stalled leaving me with no power steering or brakes. It only does this when I fill the car up. Because of this issue I can only fill the car 3/4 of the way up.
On Feb 25th I put gas in my vehicle, later that day I noticed a high gasoline scent from my car. Ie; 10 days prior I had my vehicle serviced at my local arrigo Dodge dealership. I waited until the next to see if the smell had gone away, assuming I had put bad gas in my car. The next day before I could open my car doors I could smell the gasoline from standing outside my car. Still assuming I had bad gas I decided to drive out as much of the gas as possible. When I realized the smell would not go away, I went online and did some research, which lead to this being a common problem with the Dodge vehicles, I watched multiple videos and read multiple comments. On Feb 27th I followed some steps from videos. I took my back seat out lifted the guard and pulled of the fuel pump cover, and low and behold there was gas. This is a fire hazard. I drive my mother and my daughter in my car, anything could have happened. I called Dodge customer service on Feb 28th to report the problem to see if there was a recall, seeing that I was not the only one with this issue and complaint. Dodge was not much help. This problem that Dodge ignores has cost me emotional distress and more money than I expect to spend to fix. Dodge shows no interest or care in this case as this being a hazard. I am completely disappointed in the way Dodge is dealing with this issue. The representative that I spoke with did not give me any for of ease or comfort or offer any assistance on how this can be fixed. While it may seem like an easy fix to that rep, this problem goes beyond just fixing. Its a fire hazard and Dodge needs to look further into this. Maybe when something drastic happens on this account I guess that when it may matter to this company. I my self have taken multiple pictures and videos.
2006 Dodge Charger has a known issue involving vehicle stalling if the gas tank is filled. Dodge negotiated a lifetime warranty for repair of this defect in lieu of a recall. I was not notified of this warranty. My fuel pump has failed due to chronically running hot due to inability to fill the gas tank. The fuel pump design depends on the cooler temperature of the gasoline in the tank to keep it cooled. In other words, not being able to keep adequate gas tank levels has directly led to fuel pump overheating and failure. Dodge will not cover the cost of fuel pump repair but will replace the fuel tank that caused the damage. The vehicle was in motion leaving the parking lot at.
On July 11th 2016 I filled up my gas tank immediately afterwards while driving I noticed an overwhelming smell of gasoline. 5 days later the check engine light came on. The code detected a small evap system leak. The check engine light sporadically illuminates and then turns off on its own. The smell of gasoline goes away when the tank is half full. When the tank is full, gasoline drips directly in front of the passenger rear tire. Upon researching the problem on the internet I discovered on carcomplaints. Com that over 40 people have complained of this same issue. The fuel pump continues to pump gas once the car is turned off. The gas tank leaks when the tank is over half way full. According to other complaints on carcomplaints. Com Chrysler and Dodge have been notified of this same problem multiple times. Dodge and Chrysler refuse any knowledge of this issue even though they redesigned the fuel system after the 2011 and also recalled the hemi model for the same issue. Chrysler/Dodge has yet to recall the fuel system on my v6 model. I don't feel safe driving my car. Can an investigation be opened on this issue since there is 50 complaints online that date all the way back to 2012? a gas tank shouldn't not "wear-out" and leak after 5 years. . . . Does someone have to die or become severely injured for something to be done about this issue? many people complained of alternator issues, it took a fire to occur for Chrysler to finally recall the alternator on the Dodge Chargers. It seems that Chrysler Dodge is just waiting for a catastrophic event to occur before they decide to recall this issue. . . Thats what it took for Chrysler to issue a recall on the alternator, even though there were numerous complaints recorded!.
