37 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

My 2006 Charger will stall and or jolt violently as soon as I leave the gas station, and it is only when I fill up my tank. After restarting the vehicle twice and driving a short while I do not have any problems, it only happens when I fill up my gas tank. I know that newer vehicle fuel tanks are designed not to be force filled due to the special evap system. I only fill the tank till the station pump nozzle clicks off, which is what I was told how to fill these newer vehicles. This problem has been going on for over several months, though I have not had any traffic accidents, I fear that this is an accident waiting to happen.

38 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 07/13/2016

As I'm driving down the freeway in the fast lane the vehicle stalls. I'm able to maneuver across all three lanes of traffic to get on the shoulder and call aaa roadside. When the tow truck gets to my location he puts 2 gallons of gas in my tank and the vehicle starts right up. Meanwhile the gas gauge is showing a quarter tank. After looking up if this has happened to anyone else I came across numerous online posts stating that the same thing has happened to them as well. This is a huge safety concern as it can result in a very bad accident from losing power steering and power brakes as a result of the engine stalling out from fuel starvation and the gas gauge showing a quarter tank.

43 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 04/25/2016

After refueling vehicle, engine stalled while making left hand turn in front of oncoming traffic, leaving me stuck in middle of intersection. Engine will stall coming to a stop, accelerating from a stop, turning corners, and a couple times while just driving down the road. When you restart motor, transmission will not reengage right away. Doesn't seem to happen if you keep fuel level below 14 gallons. Dodge dealership has said it might be a valve on top of fuel tank. Been happening for a while but seems to be getting worse.

44 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

Tl the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. While driving 60 mph, the engine would shut off. The eas code indicator illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who found a manufacturer recall pertaining to the fuel tank. The contact did not receive a recall notification. The manufacturer stated that they could not assist since the vehicle was too old. The contact also stated that the vehicle stalled after fuel was added to the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to village Dodge, inc. (819 NY-66, hudson, NY 12534, (518) 828-1585) and the failure was repaired. The stalling failure had not been resolved. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 70,000.

46 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 02/08/2016

My vehicle was leaking gas near the rear passenger door after I filled up. When I took it to have it checked the dealership told me it was a leaking seal and fixed it. About two weeks later when I filled up again the problem occurred again. After keeping my car for nearly 8 hours the dealership told me that the fuel tank on the car cannot hold the weight of a full tank of gas which causes a separation near the seal which in turn causes the leak. I googled this problem and many people are having the same problem, but Chrysler refuses to pay full cost to repair it. They offered to help pay for the repairs but said they cannot fix it free of charge because it is not a recall and my car is out of warranty.

47 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

Gas leaks when tank is above 3/4 fuel. It leaks beside the right rear tire, and it gives off a very strong odor inside cabin. This is a hazardous situation. The gas will leak until under 3/4 tank of gas.

The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000.

49 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 01/03/2016

When trying to fuel the car, the pump continually clicks off like the tank is full. Will also spit fuel back out while pumping (no matter how slow you try to pump). I don't see how this isn't a safety issue.

50 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Anytime I fill my gas tank it gives a foul smell and later noticed fuel leak on rear passenger side right in front of passenger side rear tire, now I have to fill my tank only half because it leaks when I fill it up,this is a huge safety issue.

51 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 12/11/2015

2011 Dodge Charger / 50,733 miles: when adding 5 or more gallons of fuel into the tank, there's a strong odor of gasoline coming from the car and gas is leaking by the back tire. Lifting the seat, there's a puddle of gas. Logging a complaint now in case a fire occurs that destroys the car, property or injury. Its encouraging to see other have reported the same failure but I cannot locate any recall information.

52 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact found a recall related to the fuel tank. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the fuel tank was replaced; however, the vehicle began to slow down to approximately 35 mph when reaching high speeds. Additionally, the rpms would continue to increase without the acceleration matching the rpm increase. The contact informed the manufacturer who opened a case on the contact's behalf and informed the contact that there was no recall relating to the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

53 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

Hello I read on a lot of 2011 Chargers of the smell of gas when u fill up the car the inside of the car still smell strong like it's leaking somewhere it says it's a defected gas tank. I have that issue going on now and was wondering why there is no recall for this situation since a lot of people are complaining about this? this is a very dangerous situation since my kids are in the car inhaling these fumes.

54 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

After fiilling the gas tank of the 2006 Dodge Charger r/t the Charger has stalled numerous times after leaving the gas station. The Charger would restart. This is a vehicle safety issue. The 2006 Dodge Charger r/t has also stalled out on highway on ramps a couple of times. The Charger would restart but the cars behind were not very happy. This is also traffic safety problem.

55 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 10/07/2015

I have complained on this vehicle multiple times now. It continues to have a randomly stalling engine while driving. The dealership claims it is not the gas tank. It has finally started causing the check engine light to come on (yay! it might actually get fixed). Just kidding! the dealership states that the codes that show up are general pcm codes that mean nothing. From online research, it appears it may be an electrical issue with the pcm, ecm, or numerous other parts. Either way, most of us go without cars for weeks while mechanics cannot find the actual cause thus cannot fix a dangerous vehicle. Most of us don't want to drive vehicles that stall while going 40 mph.

56 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Out of no where and for the past 8-10mo. , my 2011 Charger has been leaking fuel. Anytime the vehicle is filled with fuel over 3/4 full, it leaks onto the ground of the passenger side back tire and fumes fill the cabin, so badly you can't drive it unless all the windows are down, so your not asphyxiated by the fumes. The fuel odor is so bad that you could smell it from a distance in my drive way. The engine light is on for this reason and my a/c recirculate will not work (as a safety precaution), as well as the auto start on the key fob. I took it into the shop and they replaced the first seal. All seamed to be fine until I filled up with gas which was the day after the repair. I took it back to the shop and they said that there was a side seal that needed to be replaced. That repair did not fix the issue. I got under my car to see where it was leaking from and how much was leaking and I shot a video. I couldn't attach the video, but it appears that it is leaking directly from the tank itself. From what I have read on other complaints it is a manufacture's defect of the tank itself, and over time can not support the weight of the fuel. With the battery and cable's being extremely close to the location of the tank and leak, this is an explosion waiting to happen. If someone drops or lights a cigarette near or by this location it is an explosion waiting to happen. Merely starting the vehicle is a risk. The investigation regarding this issue needs to be accelerated. Its sad that people have to be seriously injured or die, before something is rectified. The vehicle is not old enough for it to be a "wear and tear" issue. This is a manufacturing defect that needs to be addressed and a recall needs to be issued.

57 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Every time I fill the car up with gas to full I smell fumes inside the car. Also, if the car is parked in my driveway which is at a downward slope, fuel runs down the fuel lines and onto the paved blacktop, leaving two visibly large gasoline stains. Until the car has burned off half of the filled tank, the odor of gasoline is so strong in the interior of the car it gives me bad headaches and I have to roll the windows down to get fresh air. This has been a noticeable problem for 6 months. I have owned this car since July of 2011. I am concerned that the car may catch on fire if I can smell the gasoline fumes from inside my car.

58 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 08/15/2015

About 30 minutes after refueling I noticed a strong fuel inside and around the vehicle. The first time I didn't think much of it thinking the maybe fuel spilled doing refueling. On the next fill up I noticed the same odor. This time I decided to check to see where the odor was coming from. While parked, I noticed fuel was leaking from under the car near the rear right passenger door. It was a continuous drip. I called the dealership about the issue and to see if there has been other complaints/ recalls. They stated that they was not aware of this problem. Then I researched online and found out that there had been other complaints of the same problem. This is a very serious problem and need immediate attention. This problem could cause some serious injury or even death. Due to the cost of the repair, I have not been able to get this fix. I have noticed as long as I didn't fill the tank pass 3/4 tank, the fuel doesn't leak. Please look into this matter!.

59 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 08/07/2015

Gas tank rubbing on back seat causeing hole in gas tank leaks into passenger compartment.

60 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 08/04/2015

I got my fuel tank replaced under warranty (new fuel tank & o-ring part #s: cnstx531aa and cnstx532aa) and now stalling is worse than before. Engine wants to stall anywhere from 0-30 mph now whether the tank is full, half empty or near empty. The car's stalling can be prevented by providing quick acceleration, which will temporary fix the issue, only to have it come back later. The choice between stalling at high speeds and losing power steering & other necessities, or quickly accelerating to prevent a stall, leave drivers with two unsafe, dangerous choices each. The fuel tank recall did not remedy the issue. If anything, it made it worse, more dangerous, and made a minor defect/annoyance into a serious problem that can not be "burnt off" like the excess gas in the previous fuel tank. Dealerships give us the run around. Saying they either don't have the piece, or they refuse to replace it because we already have the new, yet still faulty, fuel tank. It's becoming a serious issue with no real remedy in sight. The dealership blames Chrysler/Dodge and Chrysler/Dodge blames the dealership. The two point fingers and scapegoat each other, leaving the customer to either replace everything out-of-pocket or drive a seriously impaired and dangerous vehicle. I went in to the dealership with two minor dtc codes that I planned on repairing (they were nonimmediate and not serious) and left the dealership with 15 codes. Chrysler even gave me a "case manager" for this, but the case manager said all they can do is rely on the dealership's diagnostics. . . Literally just a waste of time. Why even assign a case manager? I took the car in to replace the fuel tank since it was under warranty (aka free). . . I'm a college student with no finances for repair. Now, I'm left with a faulty, unsafe, nearly inoperable vehicle with no other means of transportation. Someone needs to step in.

61 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

I filled my gas tank (but did not top it off with fuel) and left the gas station at the first intersection. The car stalled while braking, the car came back on, accelerated against brakes, died again and wouldn't turn over afterward. Had to turn the car all the way off and back on to restart the car, only to have it do it three more times on the way home. It feels like a serious accident waiting to happen. I read up on the issue and found that it's very common. Dodge needs to fix this problem. We paid for a vehicle to safely transport us -- this is not safe.

62 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 07/25/2015

On 7-25-15 I filled car up with gas and after doing so smelled a strong gas smell on the inside of the car. I came home and parked the car. My husband went outside near the vehicle and noticed smell and begin to do a walk around the vehical and notice that it was leaking gas from the tank. He immediately went to the inside of the car and pulled out the back seat and notice the gas were come from around the seal of the gas tank. He said we need to get some of the gas out of the tank. We drive it a distance to see if the smell would go away but it never did until it were at a half of tank. He then on 7-27-15 replaced the seal and went back to the gas station to fill the car up again and the strong fuel smell returned and the tank being leaking again. I then started to look and see if there has been a recall on this issue and noticed it seems to be a know dangerous issue with the gas tank on this vehicle that needs to be looked into ASAP. I am so afraid that if some throws something flammable near this vehicle its going to ignite. Very dangerous and needs resolving!!.

63 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 07/19/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle he noticed an odor of gasoline. The vehicle was taken for inspection at the dealer however the dealer could not determine where the odor was coming from. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked he noticed that fuel was leaking from the gas tank on the rear passenger's side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to be inspected a second time. The contact was notified that the vehicle needed to have the gas tank replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 77,500. Ah.

64 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

When merging onto the freeway upon slight acceleration the engine died, in front of a semi truck! we had no power steering or brakes! this is a huge safety issue!! we were lucky to not have crashed. I then turned key to off and restarted to resolve the issue. This has happened 6 more times at lower speeds I. E. 15mph, 20, 30 mph ranges, with no check engine light!? brought it into mechanic and they couldn't find the issue, car had no codes. They suggested replacing the crank position sensor. We did that and it was fine. . For 15 miles until it died again!!! still no codes, dealer wont help, I can't drive the car as it is unsafe. I did some internet searches. Found about a known issue with the fuel evap system and the fuel tank and filler neck. These faulty parts cause the car to read false rich signals and causes the engine to run leaner. So now, lack of appropriate fuel upon acceleration causes the engine to stall and lose effected drive systems. This is ludicrous from Chrysler how many deaths has this caused!?!?.

65 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 06/16/2015

The vehicle continues to die randomly. This time, the vehicle died while attempting to accelerate onto the interstate (from the ramp). This time we took the vehicle to an independent mechanic and said nothing about the possibility that it could be related to the fuel tank valve. The independent mechanic believes it is the fuel tank valve and recommended we contact Dodge because the car should be included in the TSB and the tank be replaced.

66 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 12/09/2014

I was driving on the parkway approx. 60mph, the breaks felt like they were slowing down the car without being pressed. The warning lights were also going off and on. On the second road, I was going 40mph when the fuel light suddenly came on, but my gas tank was half full. The needle on the car tank went to empty then the car just shut off in the middle of the road. I managed to steer it to the side, and it restarted again.

67 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 11/12/2014

Hi, I've had a number of issues with the fuel tank scenario the earlier models suffer with. When I fill the car, it stalls a number of times. I was in a situation where I was coming to a light, the rpm¿s started to drop and the engine started to die as I was breaking. Then the car revved back to life and this cause the rpm¿s to shoot up jolting the vehicle forward. Immediately after it died yet again however the issue is I lost all power, steering, brakes, everything. From the jolt forward I came dangerously close to rear ending the car in front of me with a heavy brake pedal. At this point I was jarred a bit, and needed to get the car going again. I went to start it and it did no¿t want to turn over for roughly 30 seconds. The light changed and there was a lineup of disgruntled drivers behind me as I made efforts to get going again. Then inevitably the vehicle died yet again in the middle of the intersection and went through the same situation. To negate this, I have made efforts to not fill the tank. Now the bigger issue I am having is that when I go to put gas in the car, it does not take. I cannot get a gallon in without the pump clicking off. It takes me quite some time, 10 minutes even to simply put $20 in the car, and I get very frustrated gas attendants here in jersey if I'm not permitted to do man the pump. You need to literally stand with it and continue to reset the pump as it slowly takes and continuously clicks off. This problem needs to be solved, it I¿s simply unacceptable and dangerous. I have many other instances & dates with stalling and jolting issues after fillup. Even when I leave a 1/4 of the tank empty, I still get some symptoms. Not as often, but the car still does die out. Now that it is so difficult to fill, it is inconvenient to drive. I love the car but the issues are almost not worth it, especially with how thirsty the srt is-no pun thanks.

68 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 10/14/2014

While driving my 2006 Dodge Charger, at interstate speeds, while operating with cruise control, a single alarm sounded, the vehicle lost power and completely shut down, only to restart seconds later and accelerate again. Since that incident, the vehicle has stalled on multiple occasions, while driving at nearly any speed, accelerating, stopped at lights, every scenario imaginable. On two separate occasions while pulling out of a parking lot, making a left hand turn, the vehicle has completely stalled leaving me sitting in the oncoming lane of traffic, once nearly being hit in the driver side door. If I had to describe one situation that seems to take precedence, it would be mostly when accelerating. The problem occurs randomly, and at times will not stall at all for several days, then stall 10 times in one day. It has nothing to do with the fuel level, full tank full, half, or empty, right after fill-ups, or before. It is a random problem that can and will occur anytime, under any circumstance. This is certainly a safety issue, and will ultimately result in someone's injury. In reading multiple post on the internet (hundreds/thousands) it is obviously a common problem, but there does not really ever seem to be a definitive answer to correct.

69 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 10/13/2014

I drive a 2006 Dodge Charger r/t with the 5. 7l hemi. It has the 19 gallon fuel tank in it. The tank is defective as it causes the car to stall soon after a fill up and usually it'll just stall anytime it chooses even in the middle of the road. This is a known issue and the NHTSA and Chrysler settled this earlier this year. Well, I called Chrysler corp. About this and they transferred the warranty into my name and asked me to have it towed to the dealership. After all that was done, I get a call from Dodge customer care and they tell me that there is no warranty on the car since it was originally registered and made for canada. This is a very stupid excuse to avoid repairing a problem they caused. They are refusing to repair their defect as per the terms they agreed to with the NHTSA. This vehicle is unsafe to drive as it stalls out at any time.

70 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Dodge Charger

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. Whether the vehicle was stationary or driving various speeds, it would stall when the fuel tank was filled. Perry Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram in san diego, California was made aware of the failure and stated that there were no complaints or failure codes regarding this issue. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
