1 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 10/05/2016

On October 5, 2016 at approximately 12:45 p. M. , l engaged the cruise control at a speed of 55 miles per hour. When I pressed on the brake pedal the truck accelerated to a speed of 60 miles and higher. I tested the cruise control system twice more and it did the same thing. The vehicle never slowed down. This is a safety hazard. I was on dam neck road where the speed limit is 55 miles per hour. This is a city street. After this occurred my engine light came on, which clearly indicates a mechanical problem. I think there may be other vehicles that could have this same malfunction and cause a serious accident or death.

Keys partly slip out of ignition causing electrical failures. While in motion, if you bump your keys with your knee or hit a bump in the road, multiple dashboard warning lights appear and gauges, including the speedometer, will give inaccurate or nonexistent readings. Cruise control and other systems may fail. Vehicle must be pulled over and turned off to clear the electrical failures. This failure can occur multiple times in one trip.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 01/26/2015

01/26/2015 @ 1545 +- hours pst. Driving on cruise control when I came to a 3 way stop. Tapped brake to come off cruise. Came to a complete stop behind 4/5 vehicles. Advanced at idle rpm (750). I was the 2nd vehicle in line when my engine rpm's started increasing. Applied hard brake, rpm continued to increase, enough to over ride the rear wheel brakes causing/allowing the tires to spin. I turned the ignition off, shifted to park, re-started the engine. After restart every thing performed as designed.

6 Cruise Control problem of the 1994 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

Front left door snapped off. I can't open the drivers door from the inside. Also, both seat belts snapped, the air and heat doesn't work, the brakes locked up, which affected the steering. The transmission was replaced three timed, the vehicle would loose power and the engine would die. The catalytic converter rattled. There was a rough idle and then the vehicle would stall. The cruise control was inoperative, the tires wore out prematurely. Also, I had difficulty getting the vehicle out of park. The idler arm is in the process of breaking, the ignition broke after the keys became stuck, the fuel pump failed and the bearing and bushing needs to be replaced.

7 Cruise Control problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

While stopped at a red light today (behind another vehicle) my 2002 Dodge Dakota was rear ended. Rather than just being simply pushed forward, the vehicle abruptly and suddenly accelerated while my foot was on the brake!! perhaps the computer reset for acceleration? my cruise control was on, but I was at a complete stop! my 2 yr old daughter was in the car, and luckily no one was hurt.

10 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 11/05/2004

The cruise control on my 2004 Dodge Dakota quad cab accelerates going down hill. I've had it to the dealer who indicates this is a common problem with this vehicle and similarly equipped durangos. They tell me that there is no fix. I, then, contacted daimler Chrysler customer assistance and received a call from a nice lady who told me that Dodge was not aware of the problem and referred me to another Dodge dealership. I contacted them. They suggested that I go back to the original dealer and find out if they had contacted dealer support. They did and were told that Dodge is indeed aware of the problem but isn't going to fix it. I contacted daimler Chrysler customer assistance and received an apology, but no indication that they will do anything to improve the safety of my vehicle.

11 Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 04/14/2004

I have been working with Dodge Chrysler daimler to resolve a problem with our cruise control. The safety issue is that you are never sure how the cruise control will respond. Sometimes you notice cars and truck whizzing by and you're holding up the traffic. Based the dealers repeated attempts to diagnose and fix the problem and the manufacturer's bulletin on how to try to remedy the problem by "re training the computer", I believe the real fix goes back to the computer program and sensors used in the system. Can you please check into this issue for me and let me know what your advise is? copy of part of the correspondence to dealer follows: Dodge country of appleton 4400 west college avenue as you can confirm we have had our 2003 Dodge Dakota in three or more times now to try and fix the cruise control. (VIN 1d7hg38xx3s185514). There are basically two main symptoms: 1) unexpected shift into high gear when the vehicle is on cruise control - these events do not seem to coincide with any specific road condition. 2) non - responsive cruise control - the vehicle speed drifts down 10 mph or more off of set point on a very gradual incline with no response at all by the cruise control. Once you reach level road the speed will very slowly creep up over what seems like several miles. This does not happen consistently or repeat under any specific road condition. Sometimes at 60 - 70 mph on both gentle and steep inclines the cruise works fine. Speed may only drop of one or two mph and the engine doesn't even shift into a higher gear. Yet under identical conditions, sometimes at the same speeds of 60 - 70 mph the cruise will respond by kicking into the next higher gear and other times the cruise will not respond at all let the speed drop down 10mph. Too slow a speed is just as dangerous as too fast a speed. Another person I asked with an identical vehicle indicated similar problems.
