The roads were slick and I was traveling slow came over the crest of a small hill over bypass and headed down hill braking slowly I could tell it felt like I wasn't slowing down like I expected as I approached a vehicle ahead of me stopped at the traffic light,so I pumped the brakes twice and the engine roared and my truck raced forward and crashed into the vehicle ahead of me. The other driver was very angry and wouldn't believe me when I tried to explain what happened. He would not exchange information with me. My foot did not slip. I can't even get my truck to surge forward like that if I hit the gas hard.

"dead pedal" sometimes the throttle will surge then drop off other times when slowing the trans (automatic) will start to chatter as if a manual,. I use a store purchased obd computer to reset. Get codes 2121, 2123 sometimes 0700. This sometimes takes 2-3 times to reset. Very unsafe and dangerous. This has been happening for years, numerous times, usually in winter at highway speeds. Sometimes at intersection while accelerating. Have been looking for solution for years!! see many others on net with same problem. Why isn't this fixed by Dodge and or cummins. Again very unsafe!!.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 12/29/2003

When going slow this vehicle will at times shut off which causes you to loose the brakes and steering. The first time this occurred I was on a 360 degree turn exit ramp and was able to pop the clutch and get it going again. That time the dealership replaced the differental. It has happened again repeatedly causing me to almost run through a bar one time with my son in the truck. The next time I took it to the dealer they told me it was a problem with the computor and that Dodge was workeing to develop a program to solve the problem. 8 months later they have just come out with the program and I was just in an accident due to the truck shutting off and my not being able to control it and having no brakes or steering. It is in the shop today hopefully being fixed yet again.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2000 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 08/01/2000

At approximately 7000 miles I started experiencing an engine rpm surge after putting the vehicle in gear after a cold start. Engine rpm would instantly rise to 1400 - 1500 rpm without any throttle input causing the truck to lunge forward or backward depending on the gear it was in. I reported the problem to the service department and was originally told that nothing could be done since the problem could not be duplicated once the engine had been started and had went through this cycle. I finally got a service advisor to listen after living with this problem for approximately 9 months. At that time, the idle air control motor was changed which corrected the problem. After approximately 6000 - 9000 miles, the problem re-occurred. The dealer again changed the idle control motor which did not correct the problem. Fuel injector cleaner was then ran through the vehicle and the spark plugs were changed which corrected the problem for approximately one week. Any time I start this vehicle after it has set over night with temperatures under 60 degrees the engine starts and idles down to normal idle of approximately 600 -700 rpm. When I put the truck in gear, the idle rpm drops to approximately 400 and will then surge to 1200 - 1400 before idling back down to normal. I am still working with the dealer to get this resolved however am making little progress since they have so far not been able to work with the vehicle long enough to duplicate the problem themselves. The problem occurs for me every day I start the vehicle and the weather is cool. On hot days, it is fine. I am still working with the dealer and will be meeting with them on 8/21/2001. I would like to know if this is a known problem with this vehicle.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1999 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 09/20/1999

Vehicle will accelerate without warning. While in neutral or clutch depressed will rev up to 3800 rpm's without warning. Vehickle has been in a Chrysler repair shop 6 times for same problem. Problem has returned each time. I fear that this vehicle has a design flaw.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1999 Dodge Dakota

While driving between 50-60 mph and accelerating , going up hill, all service lights will come on, and for about 20 seconds all brake/hazard/directional headlights etc. , will become inoperative. But engine will still run. Dealer cannot determine cause of defect.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2000 Dodge Dakota

This problem has to deal with a rough/low idle and off idle hesitation which sometimes results in engine stalling in traffic or when crossing highways. The in gear warm idle is at a very rough 500-600rpm. When the air conditioner is turned on the idle jumps up to a fairly smooth 700 rpm, and the truck runs fine. This vehicle has had all current updates and recalls performed. The dealer has cleaned the throttle body and iac motor under warranty, but the problem persists. The problem is less evident in cold weather or when the engine is cold. The vehicle has stalled twice; once at a traffic light and once when crossing the highway. The rough idle is always present (sometimes worse than others), but the stalling is very intermitent. I am affraid that this will at some point cause a serious accident.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Dodge Dakota

The throttle sensor failed to return to normal when it was released.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Dodge Dakota

Once vehicle accelerated from a stopped position it back fired. Consumer had to push the gas pedal to the floorboard, and the speed only reached 2-5 mph.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1999 Dodge Dakota

Intermittently when driving motor will speed up and then come back down. Dealer has inspected vehicle and could not duplicate the problem. Consumer states dealer installed a throttle positioning sensor.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1996 Dodge Dakota

Speed control can not be disengage manually at the steering column, must depress brake to disengage.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1997 Dodge Dakota
