38 Front Suspension Upper Ball Joint problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 01/26/2006

I owe a 2002 Dodge Dakota and had a recall for upper ball joint that was repaired by merrick Dodge in merrick NY. The dealer advised me that the way they do the recall an alignmentwas not necessary. I was informed by Chrysler that a toe alignment was required. This recal was done in January 2005. The new tires that were installed in November of 2004 have excessive wear on the inner edges of both front tires evenly. The alignment was never done or done improperly and the dealership refuses to correct or even address said issue. All I ask is a front end alignment so that the tires will wear in a safe and correct manner.

VIN number: 1b7gg22yx xs206501; vehicle description: Dodge Dakota 4x4 p/u club cab model year: 1999 a knocking began in the front end and I took it to a mechanic who found both lower ball joints nearly ready to fall apart and both upper ball joints well worn. He said Dodge had recalled newer model years but was refusing to fix the same problem in the 1999 models. The mechanic said the problem in my pickup was exactly the same problem in several 2000 - 2003 models he'd fixed. I called Dodge but they just said it wasn't their problem. I entered an incident date below but there really wasn't a specific incident that happened. The ball joints just deteriorated much too quickly. I'm now paying over $700 to have the problem corrected.

My husband took his 2003 Dodge Dakota to a Dodge dealership for recall work to be done. A front ball joint had to be replaced (to keep the front end of the truck from falling apart while driving and killing everyone. ) when he took it in it drove fine. After the work was done, it pulls to the right. I called another Dodge service department to ask them about procedure, they said that an alignment is standard procedure when completing that type of work, but that the car owner is screwed when it comes to recall work. I then called the manufacturer who told me basically the same thing. That's not right!! I should not have to fork over money to have fixed what they screwed up! please fix this.

I have a 1999 Dodge Dakota slt with about 26500 actual miles on it. I had the truck at the mechanic because of a nasty 'clunk' in the front end. Turned out the right ball joint was so worn that it needed to be immediately replaced; the left is showing unusual wear as well and will need to be addressed in the near future. I understand this is "fairly normal" for the 99 Dakota. That doesn't make it acceptable.
