*incomplete recall status* ***defect in transfer case*** complaint of manufacturer defect in 2005 Dodge Dakota quad cab 4x4 3. 7l v6. While driving at a speed of 30mph on a smooth paved highway and selector switch turned to 2 wheel drive mode; out of nowhere, the transfer case tried to engage 4 high which resulted in svc 4x4 warning lamp illumination and a loud grinding/stuttering sound from under carriage as well as halting me to 10 mph without any help from me. After pulling over on the roadside and putting truck in park and turning the engine off, I waited a couple of minutes and svc 4x4 indicator and 4high dash light had gone. I restarted the truck only to find that the svc 4x4 warning lamp immediately returned and now the 4lo illuminated dash light is constantly showing and truck is still showing in 2 wheel drive with selector switch but 4x4 will not engage at all now. Took to a mechanic shop 1/2 mile down the road and had it read for any dtcs and inspected. Code came back as c1404. Transfer case still tries to engage as soon as truck door is opened and dome light comes on. Svc 4x4 warning indicator stays on the dash lit up and 4lo warning light flashes non stop. Manufacturers communication letter has been sent to dealerships for the proper installation steps of the transfer case on the model of my truck due to improper positioning. I have noticed no recall but have found a campaign id listed for this issue. I've owned this truck for only days now with the intention of presenting it to daughter for her 16th birthday next month and now there's a big concern here for safety and the fact that a recall hasn't been issued is crazy! . . . . It's completely absurd and should be escalated immediately until a consumer resolution is made. This truck is not safe at all with this defect by manufacturer transfer case! I am demanding that this faulty part be investigated and taken considerable responsibility for just for the amount of time allowed to pass!!.

Hello, I recently purchased a one owner 2005 Dodge Dakota, which has less than 35,000 miles and has been very well maintained. The car fax came back clean for accidents etc, but I have found, that both the front and rear sections of the chassis had to be replaced on driver and passenger sides and most of the front suspension had to be replaced too. Due to excessive deep rust. To the point of the nut holding the left outer tie rod end disintegrated. The straight side rails of the chassis are excessively deep rusted. As well as the oil pan and rear axle housing (which are original). The dealership had to cut off the front suspension components and replace all bushings and most of the front suspension components. Due to excessive rust and wear. My truck has barely been on the road for its year and has had minimal exposure to road chemicals such as salt etc. These components rotting away to this extent with such low mileage regardless of age indicates the use of poor quality materials being used during assembly and posing a potential safety issue to consumers. I opened a case# 57271603 with Chrysler and the agent told, that even if the case was moved up for review . It would be sent back due to the age of the truck . Which I disagree with, as the front suspension components should not have rotted and disintegrated so badly and the chassis should not have had to have extensive repairs in less than 35,000 miles. I would think, that this poses a potential safety issue for anyone buying trucks using the same chassis and components from the same vendor, if they are not manufactured at a Dodge plant. Ultimately it should be the car manufacturer's responsibility, that the parts they are using are quality and will not pose potential safety risk to consumers . Please let me know, if further information etc. Is needed. Thank you.
Bad rust issue to areas including front and rear bumber, the entire bed including mounting points, fenders, cab corners and frame. Lost fender flare twice due to rust and almost caused an accident the entire bed slid back and almost fell off and fenders and bumbers are basically rust and need replaced, wheel wells on bed are falling apart causing a safety issue if I haul anything.

Numerous front end repairs to no avail. Still having steering issues and loud banging when turning. Wipers coming on at random, battery light on in spite of new battery and alternator. We have spent over $4000 in repairs on from end and 2 wiper motors. The wipers still will not work properly.

After driving the vehicle home the following day, the vehicle was unable to shift into drive. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed with transmission damage. The transmission was replaced. Also, while driving various speeds, the vehicle would veer to the left or right inadvertently. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
While driving there is a loud humming noise in front end and knocking from front and a squeeky noise from underneath.
Purchase this vehicle one year ago this month, as we were leaving the dealer ship, we noticed a small squeak, really didn't think anything of it, 6 months later the squeak is louder. When back to the dealership and was told, not to worry about it, it was nothing. On June 12th when to get it inspected, and guess what it failed, reason, the front balljoints are no good. I suspect that this dealership knew they were bad when they sold it, now being on a limited income, I can't get it fixed and still have to make payments on it. What can be done about this, this vehicle was only driven during the winter months, since it was a 4x4.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Dakota. The contact stated the four wheel system disengaged on its owns while driving at unknown speeds. The doors malfunctioned and locked and unlocked while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 140,000. The approximate current mileage was 150,000.
I got wind of the recall around Dec 2013 & figured it didn't apply to my truck since I had spent close to $2000 rebuilding the front suspension with oem & after market parts. I finally received recall notice n62 at the end of Jan 2014. I took my truck to my dealership & they confirmed my truck was indeed included in the recall since the parts I used were defective & being recalled. The service writer told me it would be at least another year or longer before the parts needed to repair my truck would arrive at the dealership. I asked what would happen if the tie rod ball stud failed at hwy speeds(I already knew the answer) & was told it wouldn't be pretty. If the part did fail I would lose all steering ability & more then likely end up in a vehicle accident. My truck weighs in at 8600 lbs + or -,unloaded, what ever I run into/hit if the tie rod ball stud failed would certainly cause injuries or death. What are we supposed to do? park our trucks until Dodge/Chrysler ships the parts in another year or so? most folks who own hd pickups use them to make a living & can't afford to have their truck parked for a couple days much less a year. Would be nice if owners of the trucks affected would be reimbursed by Dodge/Chrysler if we purchased aftermarket parts making our trucks safe to drive, rather then waiting to who knows when. I know that won't happen,.
Truck si squeaking badly when going over a bump or driving unleevel ground.

I have a 2007 Dodge Dakota quad cab, v-6 that was bought new and serviced at the same dealership since I have owned it. No one else has worked on it. I took it in for the regular oil change recently and asked them to check on a popping kind of sound coming from what I thought was the right front end. The dealer said I needed shocks on all four wheels. It cost me about $950. 00 to have this done. I am 65 years old and have been driving since I was 16 years old. I have owned many cars, but have never had to replace the shocks in any vehicle I have owned. This is my third Dakota. The first two were used as work trucks and carried heavy loads just about every day. Both had over 100,000 miles when I got rid of them and I never had any problem with the shocks. The Dakota I currently have has not been used for carrying anything heavy. Probably the heaviest was a couple of sheets of plywood. I have talked to a friend of mine who is in charge of all fleet vehicles for the county in which I live. He said of all the vehicles he has worked on, he has never had to replace all four shocks. He said every now and them one shock on a vehicle may go out, but never all four. I contacted the dealer who told me to contact Dodge. Dodge looked at the specifics and said it was due to normal wear and tear. I feel that I have been taken to the cleaners by the dealer.
Cant get info. . . How too make any one fix recalled parts.

The vehicle was towed back to the contact's residence and was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 63,000.
Has death wobble at 60mph hitting bumps in road.
I have a 2002 Dodge ram 1500 quad cab 4x4, very well maintained and was never abused. About 8 months ago I noticed a crack on the dashboard on the passenger side. Within several months one crack had grown to 6 cracks. Then about 1 month ago the air would not flow through the dash vents anymore. In order to find out the problem I had to remove the dash board to get the heat and air system. When I removed the dash board it crumbled into about 20 pcs. Upon inspection of the air problem I found out the blend door that controls the air to the dash was broken. Seems this is a problem. I am now having to replace the dashboard, front and rear pc and the 4 blend doors in the air system. While replacing the shocks I noticed the rack and pinion was leaking extremely bad which has never leaked before. No noise while turning the steering wheel, no warning light to advise of the problem.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Dakota. While driving 20 mph, the contact heard a bang and lost control of the vehicle. He struck two parked vehicles. The driveshaft was pulled out at the scene and there was transmission fluid on the ground. A police report was filed. The rear passenger side leaf spring snapped off. The contact called the manufacturer's warranty service and was advised to have the vehicle towed to the dealer because it was still under warranty. Because the vehicle was in a crash, the contact's insurance company instructed him not to go to the dealer. The current and failure mileages were approximately 12,000. Updated 09/10/08 updated 09/11/08.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Dakota. The contact stated that the suspension components were severely rusted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 20,000.
Original owner of vehicle with 21,00 miles. Approx 1 week ago began hearing scraping sound when turning. Noise became progressively worse. Mechanic says vehicle needs new tie rod. Advised us against driving it because he considers it to be very unsafe.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Dakota. While driving at 60 mph over a bump in the road, the vehicle started to bounce uncontrollably. The contact stated that the failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front shocks needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 13,000. Ma 08/13/15.
Front left door snapped off. I can't open the drivers door from the inside. Also, both seat belts snapped, the air and heat doesn't work, the brakes locked up, which affected the steering. The transmission was replaced three timed, the vehicle would loose power and the engine would die. The catalytic converter rattled. There was a rough idle and then the vehicle would stall. The cruise control was inoperative, the tires wore out prematurely. Also, I had difficulty getting the vehicle out of park. The idler arm is in the process of breaking, the ignition broke after the keys became stuck, the fuel pump failed and the bearing and bushing needs to be replaced.
My trucks steering wheel pulsates when driving at speed above 40 mph and unbearably at speeds of 60 to 65. When driving the truck it will shimmy and shake violently when going over any road service that is not perfectly flat. I will no longer operate this vehicle with my wife or children in the car. No one should attempt to tow with this vehicle. The pulsation throughout out the truck will get you sick. You will feel as though you are about to lose control of your vehicle at any moment due to its instability. After a half hours use in traffic my brakes heat up and feel like a car with the abs being activated everytime you touch the brake. My dealer has made five attempts to fix this truck, they tried to blame good year for the composition of the tire. I have taken the truck to a good year dealer and they concluded the tires are fine and there is no unusual wear pattern, I had the same tires on my durango. I have only 8,000 miles on my truck and feel I have spent to much time trying to be a test for Dodge to correct its engineering mistakes. I am going to begin the lemon law paperwork. Please make Dodge try to correct this problem before some is seriously injured or killed.
My 18 month old son and I were in a single car rollover, on September 9, 2005. I was driving a 2003 Dodge Dakota when my truck started to make a noise, then we were sent into a rollover. The right front tire was gone when we stopped. I was sent information from my uncle after I sent him pictures of the accident and he sent me information on the possible recall. I need to know what my options are and what do I do now.
Purchased 2005 Dodge Dakota quad cab with 3 miles , noticed a vibration, shimmy in steering wheel and floor board at all speeds and on all types of roads, it increases on bumpy or construction roads. Have been to dealership 7 times, they balanced the tires they installed new tires then they installed rear axles and drums but vibration continues. The last couple of times they said normal for that vehicle or could not duplicate but the air pressure in tires is always changed or tires rotated,. I filed a lemon law complaint but of course the verdict is drives normal. I just want a vehicle that doesn't shake when I drive, could be hazzard. Safty concern.
When the driver encounter rough roads and entered a turn he noticed that the front end bounced. There was a pulsation in the steering. The service dealer could not find the problem. Updated 01/11/06.
Vehicle was leaning to the right, and when driving at any speed it pulled to the right. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to resolve this problem.

I own a 2003 Dodge ram 1500 4x4 quad cab slt VIN 1d7-hu18n53s-188168 assembly point, warren, michigan. The truck stalled while in traffic making a 10-15 mph right turn. The second occurence was july15, 2004. Very close call here. I was in the smokey mountains camping. The six hour drive home towing my popup was nerve racking to say the least. Especially, since my 13, 6 and 3 year old were in the truck. I mentioned that the truck runs extremely rough intermittently to the dealer morgan Dodge durham north carolina on at least two occasions. I am also experiencing an intermittent shudder that seems to be coming from the transmission, also mentioned to the dealer on at least two occasions. The dealer simply said that they could not reproduce the shudder or stall. I also had a severe brake pulsation. They did replace front pads and calipers and cut rotors. They were supposed to follow up with me regarding the shudder and stall but as of this date, 7/18/2004 I have not yet receive a call back.
