2 Rear Axle Spindle problem of the 2004 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 12/05/2006

My truck had been making the notorious squeaking sounds from the font end that the Dodge Dakota has been known for over the past few years. I knew nothing of the ball joint problems with this vehicle until my fiance was in an accident with the truck. The accident that occurred was faulted to my fiance's fault. When speaking with her, she stated that she was unable to steer the truck and therefore struck the other car 'while going around the corner'. When she stopped the vehicle after the accident, she found the truck lowered to the ground on the front drivers side due to the wheel assembly popping off the truck. By 'popping off' I mean that the lower ball joint popped out of its location and the rivets holding the top of the spindle popped out of there position. Yes I said popped. There were no ripping of parts etc, the assembly just popped off the truck. This accident occurred at a low speed going through a turn. This is the exact enactment that Chrysler has stated that the wheel would fall off if the part full malfunctioned. Chrysler has been using the same parts in the 04 Dakota truck as that used in the 00-03. Why is the part not being corrected? why is Chrysler not taking control of this issue and resolving the issue with a recall? Chrysler is putting lives at risk everyday that they are not recalling this part and correcting the issue. Is it going to take the death of an individual caused by this failing part for them to step up and admit they have messed up? we cant wait for this. Start saving the lives at risk now by getting this recall started and getting all of the Dakota fixed. If it is not done now, each individual that has the power to get it done, is putting many lives at risk. What should we as Dodge Dakota owners do to get this issue resolved and protect our families?.

3 Rear Axle Spindle problem of the 1999 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 05/03/2006

Vehicle was brought to a mechanic for intermittent brake noise. While checking vehicle brakes, mechanic noticed both lower ball joints nearly pulled through spindle. Upper joints were visibly loose with excessive movement (factory spec is . 060"; mechanic found . 125"). Vehicle had steered and driven normally but could have had major suspension failure without giving any sign to operator that there is a potentially dangerous issue. Vehicle has 'low' (65k) miles for seven year old vehicle and is well maintained. Failed joints are not serviceable-sealed for life- a very short life, and cannot be lubricated. Design of suspension components' is poor resulting in wear that is excessive. No warning that failure is imminent causing potentially catastrophic results. All four ball joints were replaced.

4 Rear Axle Spindle problem of the 2003 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/04/2004

Driving down the road rear axle broke wheel off my 2003 Dodge ram 1500 quad cab, my husband and 4 year old son was also in truck, luckily no one was hurt in truck or when wheel fell off not hitting anyone on a busy intersection. Daimler Chrysler has known about this problem since this happened, wouldnt give us a rental car saying it was our fault it broke accusing us of taking it 4 wheeling and abusing our truck. Our truck is our only transportation, and we bought it new for the fact of reliability and feel safe driving it with 3 children. After a long week of waiting and waiting to hear something they sent out a investigator to take pictures of damage which was finally done on the 11th of June, a week after this happen. Still no rental car, daimler said they will not pay for one. Was told daimler got the pictures that were taken on the 14th, and still was not reviewed. My husband is a truck driver and took a vacation which does not happen too often, and since school was coming to a end, we wanted to take the kids away to have a good time. Needless to say, our vacation was a very disappointing on. Daimler Chrysler has accused us for making the axle break, I think it was their way of not wanting to take out of their pocket a vahicle for us to use. This is the 2nd week now still with no word on if our truck will be getting fixed, it is not even a year old to us with 12,000 miles on it, always been serviced where we bought the truck and daimler even didn't take their word with the damamge. My husband said he daimler made him feel like a criminal and we will not purchase another Dodge or Chrysler and will also tell others that, and with him being a truck driver he can tell alot of people not to buy their vehicles. It is totally is a shame that this company acts the way they do to people. I think Dodge is really going down hill. I will never feel safe again in my Dodge, especially when or if they ever get around to fixing this problem.
