2 Engine problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2008

99 Dodge Durango slt 5. 2 318 motor blew. Only had 105,000 miles on it changed oil and did upkeep right on schedule. This pile crap has been nothing but a lemon since we bought it. First it started shutting off while driving, had to fight tooth and nail to get Dodge to replace pcm, I did the investigation to figure out the problem because they did not want to pay for it and tried really hard to stretch this out to where I would not have warranty anymore. They wanted to send us off with a black box after they supposedly fixed problem but didn't. Now my motor blew! we have taken motor out and it looks all burned up. . . What a complete piece of crap. . So angry that Dodge refuses to step up on these obvious defects that are their fault not the poor consumer who paid way to much for this lemon of a vehicle. Also have to replace all ball joints, because the 99 should of been included in the recall!!!! thanks for nothing Dodge!!! I will never buy american again, this was my first time of straying from nissans and toyotas,,,never again.

3 Engine problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2006

: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the oil pressure gauge dropped to zero. This happened intermittently. The vehicle was maneuvered off the road and let cool. It was driven to the dealer who determined the engine needed to be replaced.

4 Engine problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2005

The consumer kept up the maintenance on the vehicle. While driving on the highway a through rod entered the oil pan and it destroyed the engine. There was slug built up in the bottom of the oil pan that caused the pump to fail. There was no for warning, but one could hear metal against metal grinding. Oil light did not come on. Spoke with the dealer and Chrysler, and they said there was nothing they could do because warranty expired. This happened on June 5, 2005. Had the engine replaced and the consumer paid the cost out of pocket.

5 Engine problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2004

I own a 1999 Dodge Durango. I am about to have to replace the driver's side upper ball joint. I started hearing a noise about 2 weeks ago. I called the dealership and they told me that I am not included in the recall. I have researched several websites and there are 100 of 1999 Durangos that are having the exact same problem. I also had to replace my engine.

6 Engine problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2004

1999 Dodge Durango engine ceases along with ball joint problems. I had to have my engine replaced in the 5 yrs that I have owned it twice! that is not normal on a vehicle that is suppose to be tough and get more than 36,000 miles to the engine! I have called damlier Chrysler about the situation and they cannot compensate me in any way and he wasn't allowed to say if that was normal for a brand new truck to have the engine replaced twice within five years! and by the way I have reciepts for my work done and the proper maintence of the vehicle within that time span!v I paid $30,000. 00 for the brand new truck plus one engine costing me $4100. 00 and the second engine costing $4300. 00 besides the ball joints. The first time theree was a crack in the engine block this time the engine ceased and started rattiling like a bunch of tin cans because suppose broke loose inside the engine and my drive cam also had to be replaced due to a crack in it!.

I was driving my 1999 5. 2 Dodge Durango the warning light came on I lost oil pressure and my motor stopped. I had to have it towed and the garage told me the engine was seized. I don't think that this should have happend and have been told this is a common problem with these motors.

9 Engine problem

The vehicle's oil does not distribute properly. As a result sludge builds up in the engine and causes the engine to fail. Please provide additional information.

10 Engine problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2003

My 99 Durango has a defective engine! my oil pressure gauge dropped to zero while driving on the expressway so I pulled off and let the motor cool down and checked the oil. After letting the engine cool off for a while I preceded home. After about 10 miles back on the road the check gauges light came on, the oil pressure had dropped to zero again, and I could feel the truck slowing down without letting off the gas. I pulled off the next exit and the motor knocking like someone was slamming a hammer on the heads. The dealer said to have it towed in so they could look at it. After 2 days the dealer called me back and said I needed a new long block. I and asked how a motor with only 50,000 miles on it could need a new block. The dealer's response was the engine had some sludge in the oil and in his opinion thought it was due to lack of maintenance. It took everything I had to keep from going off on this guy for accusing me of not maintaining my $30,000 truck! I do the oil changes, air filter, and fluid level maintenance myself because I don't trust some of these guys that work at these dealers. It's my $30,000 that's why I do my own maintenance! I called Chrysler's 800 help line and explained what happened to the guy who took my call. He listened, but sounded very un-interested as he asked a few questions, put me on hold as he called the dealer where my vehicle was. After 15-20 minutes he came back on the line and said he was sorry, but there was nothing he, nor Chrysler could do to help me because the dealer told him that he thought it was due to lack of maintenance. My wife called Chrysler later and she explained the story to the lady that took her call. Her response to my wife was this: "if you can produce receipts for all the maintenance maybe we will change our minds. " my wife told the lady I do all the maintenance, no other service shop, and she told my wife that owners that do their own oil changes are not Dodge certified mechanics.

11 Engine problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2003

We have a 1999 Dodge Durango. This vehicle has always been properly maintained, however, it recently died! we were 150 miles from our home with 3 young children when the oil pressure dropped, the motor started knocking and the truck just died. Now we have to get a new engine. There are many cases just like mine and Dodge refuses to do anything.

12 Engine problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2003

My engine blew last summer due to low oil pressure. The service mechanic knew it was bad and did not tell me about it until it blew. It cost me $6000. 00 for a new engine. Now my sterring is rocky and virbrating and clicky when I turn.

13 Engine problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2003

Oil gauge pressure would suddenly drop to zero and the "check gauges" light would come and and a warning signal is heard. Investigated internet and find there are 100's of cases of the same problem.

14 Engine problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2003

Check gauge light came on and went off. Checked oil and it was low. The same problem happened one year and 3 months ago. The oil pressure gauge went to "0" just like last time.

15 Engine problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2003

Durango has had several problems. At 19000 miles I needed a new transmision, at 60,000 miles the engine needs to be replaced. Doge will not assist in the repairs or replacement. This is the most frustrating situation I have been in in quite some time. I will nbever buy a Dodge product again. Cost of repair is $ 5,000. 00.

16 Engine problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2003

1999 Dodge Durango, just purchased for 13,500. 00. The next day the check gauge light comes on and the oil pressure drops to zero. Was fine for about 30 miles and the check gauge light comes on again and oil pressure drops to zero. This time when it happened the engine was rapping/ticking loudly. Researched on what the problem could be and found many people with this same problem and Dodge will not do a thing about it. Most have lost there engines. My vehicle has only 65,000 miles. We should not be experiencing this sort of issue.

17 Engine problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2002

I own a 1999 Dodge Durango. Last year we began having oil pressure related problems. We were driving and the pressure would drop to 0 and we would have to stop the car and have it towed in. First they changed out oil sending unit, next they couldn't duplicate the problem. The next time they claimed it was due to lack of maintenance (changing our oil every 3,000 miles). Yes we did change our oil. We had our engine flushed several times. It still produces sludge even right after the oil is changed. It is now sitting in our driveway because we do not have the money for a new engine which it requires. The thing is that we began looking on the internet to try to diagnose the problem ourselves and there are literally thousands of others that own Dodge Durangos with the same problem. Is there not something that we can do? we were even given a free extended warranty for all of our problems of course until our original warranty ran out and now they say that our warranty will not be honored due to this. This is the same story as many many others. Thanks for your time.

18 Engine problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2001

One day after purchase, rear axle went bad. 3 days after purchase, oil gauge started acting up, we had it checked with 2 different garages, both said this vehicle shows signs of abuse and neglect in the engine, crankshaft is scored and engine contaminated. It needs to be replaced. One estimate is of 5,500 and the other is $3,500. Dealer says "tough luck" how is this fair?.

19 Engine problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2001

Flywheel has broke on 3 different occasions since Feb. 2001. Dealer has replaced flywheel in every repair, but has not given explanation for defect.

20 Engine problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2000

Unpon acceleration valves rattles.

21 Engine problem

During the summer of 2001 I started experiencing severe smoking coming from the tailpipe at startup. I would also encounter the check gage light every time I would stop the vehicle and the oil pressure gage would drop to 0 and return to midrange. I took the vehicle to jim may auto sales on 2 different occasions to have it checked and they said that it was normal and not to worry. It is continuing and I am now hearing a severe knocking from my lifters and am putting oil in the car every 1000 miles or so. This is a fleet vehicle and all oil changes are well documented. I took the car while the warranty was still good, but now it has expired. What do I do now???.

22 Engine problem

Vehicle was reading low on oil and driving very rough. Oil level was at specifications. Dealer diagnosed that the oil pressure sensor had failed.

23 Engine problem

After the vehicle was purchased on 14 April 2003 the oil gauge light would continuously come on several times a day . The vehicle was taken back to the dealer on 15 April 2003 each time for repair. The consumer was informed by the mechanic that it was an electrical problem and the vehicle was still drivable. The vehicle was driven out of town and the consumer became stranded. The mechanic at a dealership had to rebuild the engine due to oil pressure problems and a built up of sludge. Purchase vehicle from cueter Chrysler/Jeep in ypsilanti mi 48197/7344342424.
