2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2015

Usually happens when it is hot out but the truck just shuts off with out notice all power too all gauges go to 0 power steering. Does not matter how fast or slow I am going. I have to park it and let it sit anywhere from 5 minutes up to two hours. I have had several parts replaced and the problem continues no one seems to have an answer. This is so dangerous not only for me but also all other drivers on the road. This needs to be figured out soon I fear for my life and the life of others.

3 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2014

Engine shutdown, out of the blue. Nobus appeared on odometer. All gauges were on 0, but all other electronics worked. Starter would crank, but ignition would not ignite. I'm not sure if fuel pump went on or not. Vehicle would not start back up for apx 20 minutes. A couple days later, it happened again, then twice in one day. The quickest, but temporary, solution is to cool down pcm. An ice pack works great! but this is not always convenient. Needless to say, problem is worse on hot days. Once this happens, you need to replace pcm because solder joints are broken within. When unit cools, metal contracts, and contact is made again, and truck will start. But keep in mind-the solder joints are still broken. When unit heats back up, metal will expand, and connection will be lost again, causing engine shutdown and no bus to electrical ignition system. The very first time this happened, I had gone over a bump, which is probably what initially "broke" the solder joint. A new pcm can run $400. One from a junk yard could work, but there's always the risk that, it too, has the same problem-maybe that's why the truck is in the junkyard to begin with! and if it was in front end collision, good chance it won't be any good either! I've owned my Durango for 13 years, and it has never really left me stranded. But now that it has this problem, combined with bad design of front hub assy, vehicle is very unsafe and it's time to retire it - even though motor still runs strong.

4 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2012

I was driving on the highway at 65mph, and the vehicle shut off completely. Lost power steering, power brakes, everything. Had 3 small children in the car and had to with all my power (I am 5'9" 235 lbs) navigate the vehicle to the side of the road. I have found this is extremely common problem with this vehicle. Many of the posts state is a manufacturing flaw of where the pcm is placed in the engine.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2010

I currently own a 1999 Dodge Durango. This vehicle has been an extreme safety hazard. In the last month I have noticed that my vehicle shuts off without warning while I am still driving,on the freeway, or on a main street. Two times that this has happen I had my small children in the car with me on the freeway. I was unable to turn my car back on, and it was almost impossible to get my car pulled over to a safe place. I have taken my car in several times for a diagnostic and the problem for some reason undetectable. I realize now that this has been an issue for many people who own this year and model Durango. I really think that this needs to be looked into a little further because someone eventually may get hurt because of the negligence from the Durango distributors.

8 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

99 Dodge Durango v8. This vehicle is a piece of crap. The car stalls without warning whenever it wants without warning. This is very dangerous for my family to ride in anywhere especially on the freeway. Dodge needs to do a recall on this vehicle as it is hard to tell how many fatalities have occurred from this reason. Sometimes the car will run for 25-30 minutes before it shuts off and seems the car has to cool before it will start again. The code shows no bu5 but it will not run a code.

11 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2007

I purchased a 1999 Dodge Durango from a private dealer last year. Not long after the purchase, while driving the vehicle down the road at about 50 mph, the engine shut off. . . Barely any brakes, unable to steer. This happened several times after that, eventually leading to me not driving it anymore. While researching what was wrong with the vehicle, I came across many other people with the same problem, same make, year and model vehicle. Many were reporting their "close calls" with mva's due to the engine just shutting off and them losing control of the vehicle. This is obviously a wide spread and dangerous problem, that thus far, Dodge has failed to recall. I, as well as many others, do not have the money to put in to the vehicle for computer changes and uncertain mechanical work to get our vehicles in safe operating condition. I believe it's time that Dodge do a recall and fix this dangerous problem.

13 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2002

Gas fast as 70 miles or as slow as 10 miles per hr. Contacted Chrysler corp. 2x no one at c. Corp could give me answer. I was told to take vehicle to dealership and start with TSB#08-24-00 to see if this could be the problem. Three attemps have been made to solve the problem. Problem still exist at a high rate of speed 70 mph on I-95 10/12/02 with heavy traffic my vehicle shut down without warning if not for my daughter following behind me, and notice my vehicle was having problems I truly believe a major accident would have occurred instead of a traffic back-up the police arrive and stayed with us until vehicle started again. This problem have me very worried since the vehicle continues to do this and the auto-tects nor Chrysler have any ideal why. Vehicle shuts down with no warning while driving I could be going. Dt.
