My 2004 Dodge Durango 5. 7 l hemi v8 had 134,000 miles. Oil changes were done every 3,000 miles, fluids always checked. I drove the vehicle for most of the day and then parked it in the driveway. The next day I went to start it and it sounded like the battery was dead but made a loud clunking sound. I attempted to jump the battery and without success I had it towed to a mechanic. The mechanic found that the motor seized and would require a rebuilt. The cost would be $6300 for a vehicle that is not even paid off yet. After reading several of the same complaints, I find this to be a defect. Chrysler should take responsibility for selling a faulty product to consumers.
Drove the Durango home from work around 8pm the night before. When I got into the vehicle the next morning about 7:30am , heard a load pop noise and then it shut off. When I tried to start it back up it had an awful tapping noise, so I immediately shut the engine back off. This vehecle has about 130,000 miles on it, most being highway miles. I have always serviced according to manaufacture recommendations. This is my only means of transportation and I still have 6 payments left on it. Why will Dodge not stand behind their product, as it is obvious by the internet that this is a very big problem. In these bad economic times people can't afford to loose what they have worked so hard to keep. I think I will go to the news media on this to make americans aware not to purchase Dodge products.
2004 Dodge Durango with 5. 7 v8. Vehicle has 103,000 miles on it and has had regular maintenance and oil changes. Drove the vehicle home from work and parked it in my driveway with no indication of any problems whatsoever. When I went out to start it the next day it would not start. Sounded like a dead battery or possibly the starter frozen up (rapid clicking noise) after trying to jump start the engine, I had it towed to the shop where they showed me a gaping hole in the side of the engine where it had thrown a rod. They could not tell me what had caused the failure without tearing apart the engine and costing a lot more money, but engine was trash at that point and no need spending more money on trash.
2004 Durango 92,000 miles. Properly maintain. No issues. One morning started making in clanking noise from the engine near the oilpan. Rod bearing broke. Replace engine cost $7000.
I have a 2004 Dodge Durango w/ a 5. 7 hemi. Drove this vehicle back and forth to work everyday without any problems. I loved this SUV! it was by far the nicest vehicle I have ever owned. Friends joked that I babied it more than I did my children. I took very good care of this vehicle mechanically and cosmetically. Being an ex-mechanic, I am very aware of the necessity of regular maintenance. I parked the vehicle Friday night and all day sat. Wife went to go do the grocery shopping sun morning and claimed that the enigine turned over a little and then there was a thunk noise and wouldn't restart. I went out and tried to start the Durango. On the third try, the engine started. There was a loud clicking noise coming from the engine. It sounded ike the bendix was stuck on the starter. I tried tapping on the starter to disengage it to no avail. I replaced the starter with a new one and got the same sound. I called a local mechanic about the problem and he came to my house to hear the problem. When we started the engine, the noise was noticeably louder. After an hour of crawling around under the vehicle it appeared to be an internal engine problem. On furthur inspection we found a small crack on the drivers side of the block. I can not afford to have the engine replaced even though I am still making payments, insurance, and tags. After all the other research I have done and the hundreds of people I have found with this same problem, I just don't understand why Chrysler hasn't released a recall. I was very lucky that this didn't happen while traveling down the highway. The Durango has approx. 95,000 miles on it. This type of failure should not be happening this early to this amount of any vehicle.
SUV would stall while driving then start back up. Heard a ticking noise when turned key over, then heard a loud noise and louder ticking then engine gave out. Looked under SUV and there was oil and pieces of the metal on the ground. Towed it to a shop and was told engine failed due to internal engine failure most likely due to piston. Mechanic showed me a hole in the engine block. 2004 Dodge Durango with apprx. 86,000 miles. Also told that whatever happened with the engine destroyed the starter as well. Replaced both the engine and the starter.
I do not know what happened this feels like this dream. One day my truck is running great and then bam oil every where. One day I started my truck up after about two weeks of letting it sit in the drive way and it had a ticking noise so I immediately turned it off. I called a mechanic he checked it and said it was a sticky lifter. I then called Dodge to get professional advice because my mechanic is not a certified Dodge mechanic. A service adviser at Dodge dealership on rt 112 in medford and he told me that if the problem started while the truck was sitting, to just start the truck and let it run for a while. So I did and maybe five minutes of it being on and ticking I heard a noise and saw oil on the ground. Now what do I do. . . . . . . . . I have a hole in the engine block and a fully paid piece of junk. I have records of all my regular oil changes this truck was my baby I took great care of it, I loved it and its dead. I'm not the only one with this truck and this problem when will Dodge own up to its responsibility and recall the 5. 7 motor . It breaks my heart every morning walking by my 2004 Dodge Durango to start up my old beat up 97 Nissan pathfinder with 246k its sad to say that this rusted old piece of junk gives me no problems with its motor or transmission, but my new truck crapped out at 116,000 cars not are suppose to die after 100k especially heavy duty trucks. I never even got the opportunity to carry a load or tow something. Dodge made it seem like this was something that was suppose to happen because the truck has 100k. . . That makes no sense to me and I wish I would have done more research on this truck. But right now I just pray that Dodge helps me out with this problem. This is my family vehicle that I invested hard earned cash into and now it is just sitting in my driveway rotting away. Can someone please help?.
Dodge Durango, hemi 5. 7 liter engine went out. Started out with a ticking noise that I wound out to be the #7 cylinder connecting rod was bent and hitting the baffle above the crankshaft. It broke, as I was driving it onto the lift, and sent the rod through the side of the block. Engine is dead, 116k miles.
