The engine suddenly, and without warning, stopped running. This happens at low speeds, especially when slowing down for a turn. It is extremely dangerous, as the power steering goes out when the engine stops. The date listed is the most recent incident, but this has happened before.
My 2005 Durango has been shutting completely off while I am driving it. This has been going on for approximately one year intermittently. I have had it to the mechanics numerous times and they are unable to locate a problem. I fear for my safety and the safety others as I never know when my SUV will shut off. I have found a website that other people have posted exactly the same complaint that I have concerning their Dodge Durango's. . Read more...
Sludge build up due to improper venting of the oiling system. The engine is blown with only 80,000 miles. Need to either replace the engine or have it rebuilt by a machine shop.
While commuting this morning to work, I was approaching a stop light at approximately 35 mph, as I started to brake, I noticed my brakes were not working properly, at that point I realized my engine had shut off and I had lost my power brakes/power steering. As this has happened multiple times in the past with no warning - as it did this time, I knew I could put my engine into neutral and re-start my engine. Luckily I was not in any sort of serious traffic and had plenty of room to get my vehicle to the side of the road to avoid any accidents. I have attempted to address this issue with the past with Dodge and have had no success. This is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle began to lose power and eventually shut off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The current and failure mileages were 100,000. Updated 8/10/09 updated 08/13/09.
I purchased my Dodge Durango limited new in 2005. I had no problems until approx. 1 year in to ownership. When the vehicle is placed in reverse after sitting overnight or while at work it has a several second hesitation. After taking it to the dealership (3) times they finally found a TSB to replace the transmission filter which they say they did. The problem seemed to get a little better. Now though (1500 miles later) my Durango is hesitating in reverse and forward. The dealership can't replicate the problem ( never have ) and don't know what to do now. I have also now had (2) instances of the engine shutting off at low speeds. The dealership also can not replicate this and don't know what to do. My Durango has spent almost 2 weeks total in the shop with these issues. I guess I will need to put a sign on my rear windshield that reads "stay back vehicle engine dies".
2005 Durango engine dies when changing from reverse to drive after backing out of parking space. Also dies when accelerating from a slow roll such as an uncontrolled intersection. I have been involved in 5 near miss incidents in the last 18 months. Dealer has done a tune-up and test drive and has told me there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. Are people going to have to die before something is done about this?.
While driving a 2005 Dodge Durango owned by my husband, richard flippin, the vehicle spontaneously lost power and the steering locked. I had a small amount of give and was able to maneuver the m/v slightly and straddle the driveway of a strip mall. I then put the m/v in park and restarted. Had I been traveling on the highway at a high speed. . . With my children. . . I don't even want to think about it.
While turning left into a parking lot, across a fairly busy road, my 3 week old Dodge Durango limited hemi just cut out. The power steering disappeared, the engine was gone, and I was in the middle of the oncoming lane. I switched the vehicle off, and on a few times until the power steering and acceleration were back. This is very dangerous, my dealer claims that the computer reports nothing is wrong, and I refuse to take back the vehicle. Many people seem to have logged complaints of this nature on Dodgetalk. Com, what can be done about this?.
