For no reason the vehicle shuts off with no warning. No lights on the dash or anything, shuts off and no steering. Not safe to drive. It has happened while driving and while sitting at a light, no warning signs. Acts fine, both times during city street driving.
Several times, while driving my 2005 Dodge Durango, it has shut off. This has happened 4 times. 1st: I was stopped at a highway intersection and it shut off, 2nd it shut off while stopping in the median getting ready to turn into work, 3rd: I was slowing down trying to turn off the highway when it shut off and almost caused me to hit a stop sign since the power steering went out and the brakes didn't work. 4th: I was pulling out of a parking lot and it shut off. I had no power steering or brakes. I had children in the car 2 out of the 4 times this has happened. This is very unsafe and I feel like it's a fatality waiting to happen. There has been no indication this was going to happen before it happened. I have been on highways or very highly traveled road ways. Each time, I have had to stop and restart this truck. Once it threw a random misfire code, but has not had a code since. We have replaced spark plugs and the 02 senor, but it is still happening. 90+ people have complained on carcomplaints. Com about this happening while driving and almost wrecking. That is how I found this site. This needs to be handled in the utmost urgency. This is the only transportation I have and it worries me each time I have to get behind the wheel or have my children ride in the truck. This puts everyone's lives at risk. I don't have money to buy another vehicle or to even trade this one in on something. I don't have money to spend guessing at what is wrong with this truck. . Dodge needs to recall this and find out what is happening before someone gets killed. Dodge paying to fix this is a lot better then paying someone's family that has been badly hurt or killed by someone trying to overlook this.
Both the crankshaft position sensor and the 2 4 transmission solenoid constantly go bad. The result is loss of power and/or engine shuts off. In a scenario where the vehicle is traveling on a highway/roadway at high speed, this may cause a collision. I have replaced the crankshaft position sensor 4 times in 6 months and the 2 4 transmission solenoid twice.
My car repeatedly cuts off while I am driving. I noticed that other people have the same issue with the same model as I have which a 2005 Dodge Durango. I did my research and it was identified by Dodge as a low maneuver issue. One incident that happens a few days ago was that my vehicle shut off on a curve while merging on the highway. I am very luck that it was a car behind me and they were not going fast. My car shut off and I lose control of the steering because of the loss of power. I have to put the car in park and then try to start the vehicle. I would like this issue addressed I have complained about this since 2006.
Transfer case motor engages while driving going from awd to four wheel lo. This can potentally cause a very bad accident. 4wlo light fickers and transfer case motor engages even with vehicle shut off.
Vehicle engine shut off/stalled with no warning. Dash lights turned off, brakes wouldn't work.
The vehicle shuts off after you fill it up with fuel.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While driving at any speed, the vehicle stalled and shut down without warning. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was driven to a mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Between the end of November 2013 and the middle of December 2013, I was driving on the highway and had to slow down as I approached the toll booth. As I slowed down to approximately 35 mph, the engine shut down and the steering wheel locked. I had no control of the vehicle. I put the gear shift into neutral as I rolled along and turned on the ignition to restart the engine. This was the second time this incident occurred within 2-3 weeks.
During November 2013, I drove my vehicle approximately 3 miles from my house to my friends house. I slowed down to approximately 10 miles per hour as I approached my friend's house and the engine shut down with the gear shift in drive. The steering wheel locked. I had no control of the vehicle. I put the gear shift in neutral and turned on the ignition to get the engine started again.
I was making a u turn and the truck just shut off on me. I had put it on park and restart the engine. I experienced the issue numerous times and have taken it back to car max and they are unable to locate why the vehicle was just cutting off. I recently experienced where the car would start and turn off. Just today I was trying to park the vehicle and the engine just cut off.
My 2005 Dodge Durango keeps "shutting off" while I'm driving. I am usually turning and going less than 20 mph when it shuts off. My radio stays when this occurs. I have to put it in park and turn it back on. It has done this since 2006 shortly after I purchased it. I have taken it to the Dodge dealership where I purchased twice and have been told that nothing shows up wrong. They suggested the next time it does it, to leave it be and have it towed. Umm, kinda difficult when I am in the road when it shuts off.
I have a 2005 Dodge Durango 5. 7 hemi that my husband and I purchased at the end of may 2010. I have only had 5 months and after the first month it stalled on me. The first time it happened I was in a parking lot and went to start it and it wouldn't start. Took 3 times until it did start and stay started. A month later it happened again only this time it shut off while I was driving with my husband and 3 kids. Luckily I was on a back road and was only going 10 mph. So I was able to stop and restart it. It started up fine that time. The third time I was in another parking lot and it wouldn't stay started when I tried to start it. Took another 3 times before it did. The last time it happened was today, October 22, 2010. I was on my way home from taking my kids to school and tried to turn to go up the hill to my street when I realized I couldn't turn or stop cause my vehicle cut off again and I lost complete control since I had no power steering or brakes. I almost went into the ditch but luckily was able to stop since I wasn't going very fast. This was my last straw since if I do wreck it will be my fault and I will have to pay for it since there is no recall out on this situation. I have had it looked at and no one knows what it wrong and thinks I am crazy since it can't be recreated. After seeing how this has been reported since 2005, as long as the gas tank has been reported and got recalled, that this isn't recalled. This is completely dangerous!!!! I have 3 kids and this can cause an accident and hurt someone or even possible kill someone!!! I don't want my kids to die before something gets done. I have reported this and called Chrysler and reported it and I suggest everyone do the same! call 18009921997. If we can report this enough, maybe it will raise attention to someone to do something. I am fearful to drive this truck and even more fearful for my kids to be in it and it is suppose to be our family car. If I get in a wreck I will get a lawyer and I will sue them.
I bought my 05 Durango with the 5. 7 hemi v8 had no problems then a few months went by an started to notice the stalling problem took it to shops no problems so I went online to further investigate and I found similar complaints well today drew the straw was driving down the interstate 75mph an the [xxx] thing shut off no power no steering no nothing had my kids in the back seat as well. . . When is this company going to realize they have a major problem somewhere that is very very dangerous especially if it shuts off with no notice and has no power to slow the vehicle down an get out of harms way. . . And of course it cranks right back up but then shuts off again happens sometimes then weeks months can go by and it just does it again. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Whenever I am stopped or idling, my car will shut off by itself. The rpm gauge will jump up and down and the engine will rev by itself, while my foot is on the brake. The dashboard lights will flicker, then the car shuts off. The interior electrical is off but the running/outside lights are still on. The steering tightens up,but the brakes work. The car is able to be put in park, shut off and started right back up, so far. It normally only happens when going at slower speeds, or stopping and being idle. This has been happening for a few months, normally once a week, but this past weekend it has happened three times. We now don't leave town with this vehicle and I am actually scared to drive it just around town. I have kids and don't want something to happen while im driving at accelerated speed. According to all of the 100's of other complaints I have found, no one is able to figure out what is wrong, dealerships can't find a problem or codes. Which has been my issue. Plus, Dodge doesn't want to do anything to help. I was told I shouldn't look on the internet for complaints.
During March 2014, I was driving my 2005 Dodge Durango on the highway. At approximately 50 mph, the engine shut off while in drive. I had no control of the vehicle. The steering wheel locked. I put the gear shift into neutral and turned the ignition switch back on. I was able to restart the vehicle. This was the third incident. Prior to this third incident, I took the vehicle to two separate dealers and they could not find the problem. They told me that they could not diagnose the problem.
The vehicle stalls while driving, without warning the whole car just shuts off, leaving the driver with no steering, brakes, or control of the car.
My vehicle shuts off while driving. This has happened multiple times. I can't steer the vehicle because everything shuts off. It is very dangerous and I am very concerned. I have read many of the same complaints on the internet from people having the same problems.
My Durango engine shuts off while driving down the road with no warning. Once it shuts off I totally loose all power steering/power brakes. It happens totally at random, sometimes it will happen multiple times a day, sometimes it will go months in between incidents. No accidents have occurred as of yet, but there have been many near misses, especially when driving on windy roads, when lack of power steering is a serious issue. I've taken it to the dealer who has stated that due to the randomness of the issue, they would have to keep it, charging me $80. 00/hour trying to even replicate the issue, no codes were able to be found. After research on the web, this is not just an issue with my Dodge, but has happened to many other people. The first time it happened was around 40,000 on my vehicle, outside of warranty. Once the vehicle shuts off, I am able to put it into neutral and it will start back up fine as if nothing was wrong.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 55 mph, the engine shut off unexpectedly. Prior to the failure, the warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was unable to be restarted and was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle has not been repaired. The contact was concerned of the safety risk involved. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 89,000.
1-2 possible concerns- #1- (5. 7 v. 8 engine issue) as many others have complained the vehicle stalls and quits on sudden stops, and when making turn. After the engine shuts off - it can be restarted - but no engine code is generated. The dealer does not know the specific cause, but cites numerous things that it can be - wanting me to spend $$ to investigate each one and replace parts. The service department is not aware of any issues with the Durango and engine stall. The issue is unpredictable and nearly impossible to duplicate - even though it has happened a dozen or so times in the last 2 years. On several of this occasions I (and my family of 5) have been placed in life threatening situations and I have had issues with controlling the vehicle due to a loss of power steering and brake control. This issue may be related to the next complaint. It seems strange that this on many occasions happens right after a fill up. And - even though my VIN was recalled in 2005 and fixed - gas still sprays out the fuel filler and any gas station when you fill the vehicle up fully. To get around this - my vehicle cannot be filled all the way up. This issue is easy to duplicate - but my dealer states that the work done in 2005 should have fixed this and that any other issue are not a warranty/recall issues. Again - the dealer wants to charge me $$ to test and try to find an answer since according to them this problem has already been fixed.
I have a 2005 Dodge Durango and it keeps stalling and shut down. Everytime I slow down and go into reverse the car shuts off. The rpm goes crazy, sometimes, then the car shuts off. The dealership has yet to figure out what's wrong with it. I have gone back and forth with them and they can't tell me what's wrong with the car. They have fixed so many sensors they can't get it right. Car keeps stalling either way. I need a solution. This is a deadly situation waiting to happen.
While driving my 2005 Durango, when I hit the brake, the engine will cut off, no warning lights come on, steering tightens, I have to put it back into park for it to start again. This has been going on for 30,000 miles and 18 months, it has been to 4 different dealers, and no one can find the problem. One dealer said it needed a tune up that was at 24,000 miles, so we paid $900. 00 for that and new brakes. That wasn't the problem. One month ago, while pulling into a parking lot, the vehicle shut off and I hit a parked car because the steering wheel tightened and brakes locked up. Luckily no one was injured. This has happened at least 2 dozen times.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. The contact stated that she was able to park the vehicle and restart it immediately. The dealer has not inspected the vehicle to determine the cause of failure. The current and failure mileages were 42,000.
Turning while driving, steady driving, coming to a full stop at a stop light or sign. Vehicle shuts down completely, no power for steering or braking. Vehicle has been taken to the dealer several times and no problems has been found. This is very dangerous, I have almost been involved in several accidents because of this problem, please help.
We bought the 2005 Dodge Durango in June 2005. It worked great until about October when it began to stall out. This would usually happen right after starting the car. The other day I was driving down the road with my three children, all under five, going about 40 mph when everything in the car shut off. My steering wheel locked, I had no brakes, no electrical, nothing. The entire car shut off. I had no control of anything. I went into oncoming traffic lanes. Luckily there was no one in those lanes. I managed to get the car to stop after pulling into a parking lot. After a few minutes the car started again. I was only a few blocks from home so I tried to drive back home. Car stalled again a few minutes later. I parked it. It went to the dealership and they replaced the ignition and flashed the computer. The day they gave it back to me it happened again. Right away it went back to the dealership. They have had it ever since. It's been seven days and not even a phone call. I am hesitant to take this car back or be putting my children in it again. Something needs to be done about this. I was lucky this time and do not plan to try my luck again. People could die from this serious problem. Apparently I am not the only one.
While making a turn in my 2005 hemi Durango, the engine shut off in the middle of the road. Luckily nobody was coming otherwise I would have been hit, as I had to restart the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that when the vehicle stopped the motor shook, and the vehicle shut off. The failure began six months after the vehicle was purchased. The contact took the vehicle to get repaired on three occasions, but the problem recurred. The current mileage was 30,000, and failure mileage was 5,000.
While driving in stop-and-go traffic on Sunday July 17, 2005, my 2005 Dodge Durango (~1700 miles) engine shut off. I placed the car in neutral (I was still rolling) and was able to stop the vehiucle and restart the engine. I took the car into a 5-star dealership (where it was purchased from) and they kept the vehicle for 2 days. The service department conclusion was that they could find no trouble. I have seen similar failures with this vehicle on the NHTSA website, so I feel confident that this is not an isolated case.
Had driven 05 Durango about 5 miles. When braking to enter the driveway at home, vehicle engine shut off. No power at all. Vehicle has 4513 miles with a 5. 7l hemi.
