Engine stalling while low speed driving, when deceleration, while making a stop sign or waiting at a red light. This issue has occurred persistently in different occasions and settings. Although the majority of the times the vehicle's shutting off occurs frequently at low speed, it has happened while driving at a higher normal speed. Chrysler company does not have this issue listed on some vehicles of the same year 2005 that evidently shows certain defects, therefore, owners are immediately dismiss or ignored and left with a life threatening vehicle on their hands.
My Durango has only 28,000 mi. Drove about 2 mi. For my pt and an hour later I could not get my Durango started after several attempts. Called a tow company and had my car towed to a licensed mechanic. After the vehicle sat for about 6 hours, the mechanic started the car and said he can not find anything wrong so take the car home. I went on line and found a website where people shared their experiences with their 2005 Durango and I am very, very afraid to drive my car now. They wrote that they have had experiences when the engine would stall while driving on the road. What is going on? no recall for this problem/phenomena?.
I was circling to the left around a build to park and doing about 5 mph when the engine stalled. It restarted immediately but stalled again as I turned right into a parking spot. Another stall happened in the afternoon as I was attempting to park straight into a parking spot. A fourth stall happened while I was stopped at a red light. With the fourth stall, I noticed that the tachometer suddenly dropped from about 700 rpm (where it usually idles) to about 300 rpm, hovered there for a moment and then stalled.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted and resumed normally. The failure recurred five times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis however, a trouble code was not detected and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 142,000.
On any number of occasions (regardless of outside temperature or whether or not the vehicle was at normal operating temperature) while the vehicle is at a slow speed (in forward or reverse) the engine will stall without warning. With the loss of engine power comes the normal loss of power steering and power brakes. It appears to be most frequent when pulling into or out of a parking lot, stop sign, etc. The slow speeds are not inherently dangerous, except for the fact that stalling while in traffic and suddenly reducing speed or stopping puts myself and other motorist in jeopardy. When backing into a parking space, the loss of steering and braking capabilities create a risk of minor damage to other parked cars and could put a pedestrian at risk while being distracted and not being able to stop or steer as easily. There are no obvious sounds or engine or transmission noises or vibrations or anything to give warning that this could occur.
Engine stall without warning. Lost control of the steering and brake very hard to apply.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle resumed normally when restarted but the failure recurred five times. On a separate occasion, the transmission shifted into fwd independently while traveling between 35-40 mph. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The failure mileage was 110,000. The VIN was unavailable.
2 problems: 1) even though our local dealership is insistent that we don't have a recall, I can see a recall on your page about windshield wiper motors. Our wipers come on every time we start the vehicle, and they work sporadically. Sometimes while they're on, they won't come on at all, as mentioned in the recall information. Why isn't mine covered? 2) biggest problem: several times (upwards of ten times) I have been going slow, usually making a turn, and my engine stalls. I have to turn the key off and then restart, and I'm okay again. Took it to a mechanic in the last part of July/first part of August last year, and he replaced the fuel pump. It didn't occur again until December, while we were on vacation- we were slowly going up a hill and it stalled. Had to turn the key off and then re-start it. It hadn't done it again until a couple days ago. It did it three times in one day, then has been doing it each day since. I'm really afraid that the Durango is going to die in the middle of traffic and I'll get hit. I have four young kids, and I am panicked thinking about having to drive it with them inside, because I'm afraid that we're going to get hit and hurt. It's so scary that I'm tempted to trade it in- though I can't really afford it, we just bought this thing used last year. I'm wondering if it did this for the previous owners as well. There are complaints all over the internet about this same problem, but no fix for it. Even if I could get a mechanic to tell me what it is and fix it, I'd do that, but nobody seems to know what the answer is. It's obviously a huge safety issue!! please help!!.
Engine stalls with no warning, affecting braking and steering while moving, has happened in heavy traffic, is intermittent and is a huge safety concern.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango sl. While driving approximately 45 mph, the engine stalled without any prior warnings. The vehicle restarted and resumed normally. The vehicle was inspected by a certified mechanic who test drove the vehicle and noticed the front passenger side air bag warning indicator illuminated intermittently. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem nor determine the cause of failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 157,968.
This vehicle occasionally stalls, leaving no power steering or power brakes. This was not a single incident; this has happened probably 50 times over the past 4 years. It has happened at multiple vehicle speeds, and has happened in both forward ("drive") and reverse gears. The vehicle has always immediately restarted, and it drives normally after restarting. There is no warning or indication that the engine is about to stall, and no check engine (or other) light comes on before or after the incident. The most recent incident happened after dropping my son off at his school. While driving through the school parking lot to leave, the vehicle stalled and I wasn't able to control it (very high steering effort, difficult to stop). I almost hit another vehicle. I also realized the severity of this problem because it could have been a child instead of another vehicle which I nearly struck. A quick web search produced results showing other drivers of Dodge Durangos have experienced the same stalling phenomenon, so I'm confident that this is a defect in the design or manufacturing of the vehicle, and not just a single case of my vehicle being bad. Please look into this further, as it has the same safety implications as the ignition switch failures within gm.
Engine runs rough and stalls when driving slowly and going around turns. It does not brake or steer effectively after the engine stalls.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact was driving 40 mph when the engine stalled. The vehicle was able to be restarted after the failure but was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 120,000. Kmj.
While driving the rpms will jump around. Then when slowing down or at a stop the engine will stall out. This has usually happens going about 34-50 mph and it stalls leaving you unable to turn. Very dangerous. They have reprogramed computer and replaced throttle positioner. It has occured around 5 times just in the past week. It started out doing it once every couple months now it will do it within feet of restarting. I have to stop, put in park, and restart.
I bought this vehicle used, and started having problems with it immediately after buying it. Gas overflows out of the gas tank almost every time I fill it up. It's going to catch on fire at some point because of this. Also, the engine stalls out at random times causing the vehicle to steer and brake very poorly until restarted. I noticed that other model years of this same vehicle have had the same problems as this one, however Dodge refuses to fix this one - even though other model years have been recalled and repaired. This stupid thing is going to blow up one day at the gas station, or I'm going to crash into somebody when it stalls, but I can't afford to spend thousands of dollars to take it every mechanic on the planet to find out what is wrong with it - especially since Dodge already knows what is wrong with it - but just won't take responsibility for building it poorly.
I have already filed this complaint but never got any resolution and the problem is getting worse. The engine stalls at low speeds. It sounds just like your what is described in your investigation ea05018. It is now at the mechanic and they have been unable to diagnose a problem so far. I am concerned about driving this vehicle and if this is a known defect I want to know why Chrysler/Dodge or the odi cannot offer a fix immediately before safety is further compromised?.
I was driving my 05 Dodge Durango with my 2 year old in his carseat in the backseat and had just turned left into a parking lot, while in the parking lot the engine stalled (shut off) causing loss of power steering as well. Coasted into a parking stall and was able to restart the engine. Very unsafe and apparently very common in this year, make, and model.
Engine stalls without warning losing all power assisted control to vehicle. Vehicle stall will occur at random times and during different driving maneuvers; turning left, stopping and driving straight. Service/repair shop unable to duplicate problem in order to diagnose the very potentially dangerous hazard created by the defective vehicle. Stalling occurred less frequently in the beginning but has increasingly become more often; approximately once a day.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact was driving approximately 20 mph and the engine stalled without prior warning. The vehicle restarted and the contact was able to continue driving. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing; however, they were unable to detect a trouble code. The failure continued to occur. In addition, whenever refueling the vehicle to its fuel capacity level the automatic shut off feature failed to engage causing fuel to spew onto the ground. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 15 mph, the engine stalled with the illumination of the check engine warning indicator. The vehicle restarted and functioned normal. The failure was a continuous occurrence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection and they were unable to duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
I have a 2005 Dodge Durango slt with a 5. 7 hemi. Problems with engine stalling. This has happened while stopped at a light/stop sign, pulling into/out of driveway/parking spots and most recently while driving approximately 30 mph. The stalling has happened about 15-20 times since owning this vehicle. Almost total loss of steering and braking was not 100%. I have had it into a Dodge dealer before for this problem and of course they've found nothing so no repairs have been made. This is very dangerous especially since I almost always have children in the car with me.
05 Dodge Durango 5. 7l v8 engine stalls during deceleration and turns with acceleration. Extremely unsafe and happens frequently with loss of all power steering and power breaking. Driving 60mph on freeway 331 engine stalled on lane merger causes several cars to severely break and the Durango to run off the road in a ditch. The result was towing the vehicle to a dealership for repair. After vehicle was picked up we drove the vehicle 100miles at which time it stalled again causing another near fatal wreck with my wife and 3 small children present. This issue is a know problem with ddc however we were not aware of any stalling issues. I feel this needs to be fixed before someone is killed. I feel my family was put in danger over an issue that seems very common.
Engine stalled several times during vehicle turns. This occurs every year with the vehicle especially during warm weather months. Currently still own vehicle and had one injury accident in 2013 directly related to stalling issues.
My 2005 Dodge Durango SUV has been experiencing engine stalling while driving for the past 6 months. It always happens while it is being driven in rainy or wet conditions. It happened the first time in November 2007 on regular surface streets while it was raining and my wife was driving straight ahead. The vehicle stalled and she was unable to re-start it for over 2 minutes in normal traffic conditions. The second time on or about 3/11/08 my wife was turning right at an intersection in rainy conditions and the engine stalled mid turn and she was unable to re-start the engine for over 2 minutes in normal traffic conditions. The third time occurred 5/6/08 on regular surface streets driving straight ahead in rainy conditions and the vehicle stalled and was unable to be re-started for at least 2 minutes. All 3 occurrences involved loss of control of the vehicle due to the loss of power steering and power brake controls while our children were present in the vehicle. I took the vehicle in to allan samuels Dodge in alliance texas after the 2nd incident for warranty covered diagnosis and they informed me after having the vehicle overnight for a full day that they did not find anything wrong with it. I took it back to them after the 3rd incident and after having it for 2 full days they are still advising me that they can not find a problem with the vehicle and are not recommending any course of action to correct it. No parts have been replaced or repaired on the vehicle to my knowledge according to the service receipts given to me. I believe they are simply hooking up the ecm scanner and looking for failure codes, of which both times I took it in I was told there were none present. In my opinion right now, nothing has been done to correct the problem with my vehicle and I am very concerned about the safety of this vehicle and my wife and children inside of it.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While idle at a red light, the vehicle's engine began to sputter. When the light turned green, the contact attempted to accelerate, but the engine stalled and shut completely off. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The failure occurred on three previous occasions. At 2,845 miles, the wire harness had a failed wire and was repaired. At 2,551 miles, the pedal assembly module was defective and the clutch was replaced. At 6,033 miles, the open circuit and the module transmission control were both reprogrammed. The current mileage is 25,000 and failure mileages were 2,551.
While moving forward at 5 mph. Cold engine and engine stalled. Started when tried 4 hours later.
At low speeds, engine stalls out. Usually when combined with sharp turns or angle changes. This is very dangerous. . . It leaves with with sudden power steering and brake loss in mid-turn situations!! I asked my local dealer about it and they looked at it with no conclusions. It has happened to me many times now.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While driving 15 mph, the engine stalled and then shut off completely. There was a loss of power steering and brake power. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The dealer reprogrammed the computer software, but the failure recurred. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 27,000 and current mileage was 43,000.
I was driving down the road last night and about to pull in to a local place to pick up my daughter. My engine stalled, headlights went out and I coasted in to the place. I restarted my vehicle and all seemed fine. I drive a 2005 Dodge Durango limited hemi. I am very worried about this happening again. I bought my vehicle three months ago, used.
: the contact stated while driving various speeds the engine intermittently stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted and maneuvered off the road. It was driven to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the problem. Updated 12/26/2006 -.
The vehicle started, but stalled before placing it in gear. Restarting was attempted numerous times before the vehicle would start and remain running. This is reminiscent of past situations where the vehicle has stalled, and would not restart. These previous situations where reported under odi# 10147495 on January 9th, 2006. This stalling situation is extremely hazardous to the driver and passengers. Chryslerã‚??s response has been to re-flash the pcm. However, fault codes have not been identified. Eventually, this stalling/non-restarting condition will be fatal to either my family or to someone elseã‚??s family. At which time, I will actively retrieve these NHTSA submittal as documentation of a known problem that was not addressed by the manufacturer. Note: previous submission under odi# 10147495 the engine has quit twice now while accelerating away from a stop. Once the engine stalls, it cannot be re-started. In fact, the engine will not crank. The first time this occurred in November of 2005, the vehicle was towed back to the dealership where the pcm was re-programmed. Now during the second incident, the dealership is claiming that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle.
Mr mullens wife was driving on a busy local street at dusk. Passing through a traffic intersection the engine in her car just stalled/died/stopped running. The car was difficult to stop and turn. Once the vehicle was stopped the engine restarted with the first turn of the key. She is not sure if this is related but she thinks its possible that the engine stalled when she turned the headlights on.
05 Durango with 5. 7 hemi stalls when driving. Sometimes when backing up sometimes when coming to stop sign or light, or sometimes when driving on roads at different speeds. This is the worst scenario because power steering and brakes also go. Has not caused accident for us yet, but cam close when my fiancee was driving. Chrysler is aware of problem and has tried to fix and has given me every excuse in the book. Finally has decided to replace car but with hefty mileage charge. I will fight them on that but I wanted you to be aware that all of their so called service bulletins do not fix problem. One excuse I got is that the epa won't let them fix the problem because it will effect the emissions output. I realize this is a problem for only a small amount of vehicles but it will only be a matter of time before someone is injured or killed due to the engine stalling.
2005 Dodge Durango 5. 7l hemi, engine stalls within the first 10-15 minutes of driving, typically at 45 mph. It has happened numerous times and the dealership has not been able to locate the problem. Most recently, the loss of power, nearly caused a crash as I had no steering nor brakes when the engine stalled. May be related to NHTSA action number ea05018??.
: the contact stated the engine intermittently stalls while idling in stop and go traffic without prior warning. Although the vehicle was seen by a dealer, the dealer was unable to determine the problem.
