When you fill the fuel tank full it gushes out all over the place. How hasn't this matter been taken care of. It's extremely dangerous and unsafe. Dodge must enjoy seeing unsafe [xxx]. It happens all the time when you fill up. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Fuel splashes out of the filler neck when fuel tank is filled.
When I get gas it doesn't matter if I have a little gas or half a tank my gas as I'm pumping always comes out and backfires at me . . . . It just starts spitting out at me for no reason. . . Even when I'm empty and I start pumping gas it happens after about 10 seconds of pumping gas it just decides to come back at me. . So I'm wasting gas all the time it happens about every fourth time I get gas. . . .
Gas gushes out of the fill tube when the tank becomes full. It doesn't seem to matter how fast or slow the tank is filled. When full, the automatic nozzle does shut off but only after gas has spurted out and runs down the fender. I need to emphasize that this is an ongoing problem that happens over and over again. The most recent date is listed below.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango fuel escapes from the fuel filler neck fuel spills unto the person refueling possible faulty fuel tank the contact stated that while refueling fuel would escape from the fuel filler neck and spill onto the person while refueling. The cause of failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously serviced in August 2013 under the NHTSA recall campaign number 5v034000(fuel system) for the same failure. The local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 150,000. Jft.
While I am pumping gas it starts to come back out and it's spits out . Even when I pull the gas pump out to stop the gas it still continues to spit the gas. This happens no matter if I am empty or if I have some gas in my tank.
When you fill the tank up, at least a gallon or more of fuel spits back out and runs onto the ground with no way to clean the gas up.
Fuel shoots out of the filler everytime fuel is added. About 20 gallons into the 27 tank is when this happens. It's not once or twice, but everytime I fill up.
Every time I put gas in the tank it spills out at the end of refueling all over the car and ground.
When attempting to re-fuel, immediate backflow/discharge of fuel causing hazard. This occurs even when fuel tank is below 1/4 tank level. Re-fueling must be done at a very slow rate to reduce number of backlow discharges that occur during a single re-fueling session.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was an emissions leak and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to mt. Ephraim Chrysler Dodge ram (620 n black horse pike, mt ephraim, NJ 08059 (856) 931-2000) where it was diagnosed that there was a very small evaporative emission system leak. The dealer stated that the vehicle needed a new o-ring, lock ring, and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline) and stated that the vehicle was previously repaired twice; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 112,680.
Every time I fill my tank, fuel burps back out and spills all over the side of the SUV and on the ground. I called Dodge, and they said the recall for this was already performed, and that repairing it will cost me around $900! if a recall, has been fixed, and still the problem persists, then the recall should be re-performed!.
After fueling, when tank is full, it will begin dumping (spitting) fuel from gas filler tube. Vehile is turned off and stationary when this occurs. This occurs at every fill up.
Fuel tank overflows every time when fueling. I try to pump as slowly as possible but fuel still runs down side of truck when about 3/4 full every single fill-up. Last happened previous Saturday. This has been occurring last 15,000 miles. Local dealer claims nothing is wrong.
Reason for filing a vehicle safety complaint is as follows; every time I have tried to fill-up my gas tank on my 2005 Dodge Durango, the gas not only starts to shoot out of the tank itself, but also all over my truck, myself and all over the floor. This happens each time I fill my SUV regardless of the gas station I go to.
Everytime I fill the tank up it spits fuel back out at me.

The contact stated that the failure recurred on every fuel fill up. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 238,990.
My Dodge Durango is filled with gas it will overflow. The gas pump kicks off and then gas comes spraying back out and spills gas down the side of the car. It will continue pushing gas out for about 30 seconds to a minute. I'm afraid to fill the tank to capacity due to the fire danger or explosion.

The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve was not closed as intended. As a result, fuel spilled out while refueling the vehicle. The failure occurred constantly. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Vehicle spits gas from fuel tank inlet & smells of fuel outside of the vehicle.
When I fill the gas tank up gas comes back out the gas tank and goes on the ground and gets on the vehicle and on clothing. I have tried numerous gas stations and it happens all the time. I checked to see if there is a recall on my vehicle and there is not, but they have recalls on the same year and model as mine. This is a big safety issue and health issue because the gas comes in contact with your skin and risk of fire and environmental concerns when the gas goes on the ground.
More than a gallon of fuel spills out if you fill up the gas tank.
When fueling my Durango approaching the 90% capacity, gas gushes out of the fuel tank causing fuel spray also additional rust damage on my fender under the fuel door.
I have not had a accident thank god. I brought my 2005 Dodge Durango february2, 2015. Make a long story short with in the past 2 month I have had to have my tank dropped 3 times now I have to have it dropped again so this will be the forth time &my truck wil not start &the pump is not coming on. I got a letter about the airbags recalls, my question is have it ever been a recall on the computer or the electrical system for this SUV? I think my whole fuel system is messed up cause when I go to fill it up gas come shotting back out the tank at me & I see it was a recall on that & I have not recieved my letter to go have it checked out. Please please please help.
I went to fill my tank up on saterday March 7th 2015. I just purchase the vehicle that day. Gass started spurting out of the tank and got all over my hands. I then took the vehicle out for a drive on Sunday morning with my girlfriend and the vehicle stalled and I almost rolled back on the the car behind men. This happens two more times throughout the day. Then today Tuesday March 10th I drove to my parents and noticed the car sputtering upon gradual aceleration.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While adding fuel to the vehicle, it spewed out of the tank. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,000.
Fuel fill burps when tank is almost filled with fuel causing it to run down the sides of the vehicle it is a safety issue due to the possibility of it causing a fire. Have not received notice on this recall yet.
My airbag light has been illuminating and when I did a recall search an airbag recall did come up but there is no fix? also when I fill the gas tank I get major splash back. Huge fire issue. I know there was a recall on some 2005 Dodge Durangos for that problem but the dealer said my VIN was not included and wouldn't fix it. How can I get my VIN included? another issue is the engine light comes on and reads code p0456(very small emissions leak). . But the emissions system has been gone over and gone over but there is nothing that would indicate a leak.
Was driving and all of a sudden I smelt something burning in the dash board and all instrument lights started to get dim and dimmer and then I notice smoke coming from the dashboard and all most immediately the door locks and windows stop working, the car would lock itself and the windows stop working at all and at this point the rear door do not open at all. I ask the dealer at the lot that I bought it from at the time of purchase if the vehicle had been in a accident or was there any recalls on this vehicle and he said no and that I bought the van as is and to this day I cant get this dealer to see that this car is unsafe to operate and that I am not going to risk mine nor my kids life to drive it and he will not even trade me out of this car for something better. The other day I was fueling the van and all of a sudden gasoline shot back out the tank and spilled gas all over me, scared the hell out of me. Not only that, I was driving down the interstate in my state and out of no where my seat on its own terms began to move forward all the way to the steering wheeling pressing me to the wheel and I am 6ft 3in tall and weigh 230lbs I again call the dealership to complain and got the same story that I agreed to purchase the vehicle as is, I agreed that I did but I told him that I do not think that he told me everything that I needed to know about possible safety issues. And again I have four children age 6 months to four years old whom I love very dearly.
Just purchased my 2005 Durango 5. 7 hemi limited used at the end of 2013. Have had it for less than 6 months. After having it for a month the check engine light came on. The next day my Durango stalled while I was driving at around 40-45 miles an hour in downtown san diego!! I put it in neutral and it started right back up. I thought it was just bad gas because the check engine light went off. But in the last few weeks it has done the same thing about 10 times. My friend hooked it up to his code reader and it said my egr valve needs replaced. But now I'm seeing all of these complaints on here about the same issues and I'm quite worried. I am also having a problem with the fuel tank. I can't fill up my tank or the gasoline shoots out everywhere!! I noticed there is no metal piece that closes off when you pull the nozzle out. Also my in dash navigational system/cd player/radio quit working. Screen on in dash console is just lines. Now my blue tooth in the rear view mirror only works intermittently. Have to close the rear hatch twice for cargo light warning on dash to go out. Charger port in front panel stopped working on the second day I owned it. Seems as if there are some major electrical issues here!! I owned a Dodge dakota years ago and never had any problems with it!! I'm really surprised at the fact that Dodge is not taking care of these issues. I will be contacting a dealer for the recall issues and will let you know how that goes, especially since I've read more than one complaint on here that the dealerships aren't honoring the recalls. Ridiculous!!.
When refueling vehicle, fuel gushes out of fuel filler tube violently. This occurs no matter what speed fuel is pumped into tank. I see that 2 recalls affect this condition in this model year vehicle but the recalls seem to affect only a portion of vehicles for this model year. My vehicle appears to have been manufactured in April 2005. This appears to place it between the 2 groups of vehicles covered by the recall. I went to a Chrysler dealer on 3-5-14 and was told that my vehicle is not covered by the recall. Why aren't all vehicles affected with this problem covered. Seems to be very unsafe to have a large quantity of gasoline ejected from the filler each time it is fueled. The incident date I indicated above is the date I purchased the vehicle. I have no knowledge of problems the previous owner encountered, it was owned from new by a local police department.
Whenever I fill up my gas tank gas pours out. I try to listen real close so it doesnt happen and then sometimes even as I am taking the pump out a bunch of gas will come back out of it. This has been going on for a very long time. I even had a gas attendant try to tell me I would have to pay for the clean up. I seen were there was a recall on this and I called the manufacterer and they told me my vehichle was not part of the recall. Evidently there are other 05 Dodge Durangos having the same problem.
I was driving in my apartment complex and as I slowed down to turn my truck just shut off. Steering wheel locks and I am not able to turn. I have to press hard on the brake for it to stop and I can then put it into park and turn the key to turn it back on. I have two small children of the age of 1 & 2. Having them in the car with me when this happens is nerve wrecking. It's happened at least once or twice every 2-3 weeks. I have asked mechanics in regards to this and have had it checked and no one can tell me what it is. The previous owner said that it did the same not all the time but when he took it to the Dodge dealer, they couldn't tell him what it was either. My last (most recent) incident was on 5/10/14 - the car shut off four times that day. 2 happened while I was stopped at a red light, one happened as I was slowing down to park and one happened while I was turning and the car shut off in the middle of the turning lane while my family was in the car with me. The other issue I have is with my fuel tank. I can't fill my tank becuase when I do . . . It spits out gas. Also, I've had to switch out my IL pressure switch twice since February 2014. I have no idea as to why it's doing that.
