Fuel overflows when you fill the tank up. Gas kicks back smell gas fumes while parked some times. Dealer says its not covered. But there is a recall.
When you fill the tank up with gas and the nozzle shuts off a lot of gasoline spills out of the tank onto the Durango and on the ground. I'm the second owner. The first owner warned me of this before hand. He said it has always done this and never did anything about it. I called Chrysler and they said "my VIN number is not covered under the recall. " the recall was for the check valve. They also said "bring it in to a dealer and have them look at it. " I asked if they would fix it at their cost. They said "there is no guaranty. " this is a potentially very dangerous issue that Chrysler should be responsible for.
When you fill the fuel tank and the pump shuts off the gas always comes gushing out all over the vehicle and the ground. Dodge has recalled some of the 2005 Durango's for this problem and replaced the fuel tanks, but my VIN is not on the list even though it has the same problem. I have contacted Dodge and they have confirmed that they will not cover this problem. I have researched this and many people are having the same issue.
I received a letter recently from my local Dodge dealer indicating my 2005 Dodge Durango would require repair for something causing the fuel to spill out during fill up. This has happened to me several times in the past as I was unaware that there was a recall for this. After receiving this letter a few weeks ago I inspected the quarter panel underneath the gas tank more closely noticing bubbling of the paint with chipping starting. Pressing on the paint it sounded corrosive like rust. As I began to chip some of the paint away I discovered rust and two holes that were completely through. Looking through the holes I could see rust behind the body. After reviewing several car and Dodge forums I see that this has happened to several people in the same area of the drive quarter panel. I can only assume there is a correlation between the fuel problem and the rust that appears to have come inside out to the body of the car. There is no other rust on this car and has been well maintained. I contacted my local dealer who informed me that the recall on the inlet valve is still valid however rust would not be. It concerns me that Chrysler doesn't feel responsible for the damage caused by their defective item. How could I have know that this was happening since I just received notification I'm concerned the rust damage is more great than I can actually see. Of course I'm additionally concerned with possible fire etc which is what the recall specifically indicates. I will make appointment with the dealership for repair of the fuel inlet valve. I would like Chrysler to also pay for the damage that was caused by their defective part. I have 99,200 miles currently. I don't want my concerns to be dismissed as I feel I'm not the only one that this has happened to. I only received a letter recently for this problem so I feel all parts of the problem should be addressed.
My gas tank has overflowed twice since December 22nd when I was fueling the vehicle . While fueling the gas came pouring out where you fill it . I have read that there was a recall for this problem but I have not received any info on this nor do I know if it was ever addressed I have had this vehicle for about 3 years. And where I bought it is no longer in business.
I just purchased the 2005 Dodge Durango limited on December 11th, 2012, I filled up the gas tank all the way on the morning of Friday, December 14th, 2012, the pump clicked off, and gas sprayed everywhere. Dodge will not help me, neither will any omaha Dodge dealer. I have never owned a vehicle that sprayed gasoline everywhere when pumping gas, this is definitely a manufacture defect that should have been addressed at the plant. Whatever happened to quality control in America, please, please, please help!! this is a fire hazard waiting to happen!!.
Recently purchased used vehicle. Every time you fill up the fuel tank, when the pump automatically shuts off fuel sprays past the nozzles vapor recovery boot and out of the fuel filler neck. This is vaporized/atomized gasoline, which leads to an extreme fire hazard. I notified Dodge of this situation, but they responded only by saying that there are no open recalls or campaigns regarding my vehicle.
While fueling vehicle, the gas tank will overflow and spray fuel all over the outside of the vehicle, and on person if close. When pymp kicks off, the fuel will overflow from filler neck.
Upon fueling gas tank until fill, gas tank spews gasoline out of filler tube. Took it in to inspection, and was rejected, due to slight emissions leak. Failed inspection. Took to diagnostics center and had smoke test. Resulted in a slight leak that can not be found. Advised to have total fuel tank and refill assembly replaced at $700 +. Called Chrysler recall hotline, and VIN did not match for potential recall potential.
Reason for filing a vehicle safety complaint is as follows; every time I have tried to fill-up my gas tank on my 2005 Dodge Durango, the gas not only starts to shoot out of the tank itself, but also all over my truck, myself and all over the floor. The security Dodge dealer where the vehicle was originally purchased is insisting there is no such recall for this serious and dangerous issue. On top of that, they are suggesting that I take it in for a diagnostic evaluation and pay $ 110. 00 an hour labor fee. Please note I am a smoker though not proud of it. Even if I weren't I can't understand why they refuse to see this as a incident/accident waiting to happen now or in the future. I would think this would be less of a cost to them, rather taking a chance with a life or lives being lost. Priorities ?????? in the meantime I'll continue to have to carry lots of paper towels when getting gas.

The reason for filing a vehicle safety complaint is as follows: every time I have tried to fill-up my gas tank on my 2005 Dodge Durango, the gas not only starts to shoot out of the tank. It shoots out all over me and the floor. The dealer (town and country Jeep Chrysler Dodge) where the vehicle was originally purchased is insisting there is no such recall for this extremely serious and dangerous issue. On top of that, they have also suggesting that I bring my vehicle in for a diagnostic evaluation at their labor rate which is $ 110. 00 per hour. Please note I am a smoker and not proud of. I would think it would be less of a cost to them now, rather than taking such a risk in the future with someone's life or lives. Priorities?????? meanwhile I'll continue to stock up paper towels on trip to the gas station. Way to go ( town and country).
I recently purchased a used Dodge Durango from a used car dealer. The first time the gas station attendant filled up the gas tank, it overflowed. Gasoline was all over the side of my car and onto the ground. The attendant was not touching the gas pump handle. The second time I had the car refueled at costco, it happened again. This time, it was even more of a spill and held up the refueling of other vehicles for quite some time while the attendant mopped up the spilt fuel on the side of my car and ground. I contacted my local Dodge dealer and reported the problem to them. They checked my VIN # with recall notices regarding this type of problem. There was a recall id # 54823 which affected 26,000 vehicles, but apparently not my VIN #. I then contacted Chrysler corporation. They also said that my VIN # did not have a recall notice on the fuel system. Recall id # 54823 states "the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. This could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. " I have searched the internet and found this is a common defect with similar makes and models manufactured by Chrysler corporation. I do not feel that I should incur an expense for a safety item that has previously been well documented. Please help me resolve this safety defect before someone is hurt. After purchasing the vehicle used as is, I took the vehicle to completely fill the tank. As the tank became full the pump handle clicked and fuel began to overfill out of the spout. Fuel sprayed along the side of the Durango and on to my clothes and shoes. I am not happy with the dangers that are possible with this spilling. After doing much research I have came to the conclusion that it is the check valve inside my gas tank. I cannot afford to replace the tank and feel it is the responsibility of Dodge to pay for this. They have told me I am not covered under the recall but I feel this is unfair.

Fuel overflows out of vehicle when trying to fill tank.
When gassing the vehicle, gas tank overflows as the tank fillas or when I stop adding gas.
I asked the gas attendant to fill up the tank. After about half a minute or so, gas sprayed out of the tank. I would estimate half a gallon of gas or so was sprayed out onto the car and ground. At first I thought it was the gas pump nozzle. Did fill ups at three different gas stations and same result. I called the dealership and the mechanic said that only the 4. 7s are being recalled not the 5. 7s for the gas tank's return valve malfunction which causes the spray.
Fuel overflows when you fill the tank up. Gas kicks back smell gas fumes while parked some times. Dealer says its not covered. But there is a recall for fuel tank check valve. Vehicle was already corrected once for same issue. Problem reoccurred.
I am the owner of a 2005 Dodge Durango. We are having an issue were the fuel will not shut off at the pump. There is a recall for that year, but surprisingly enough our VIN # does not fall under the recall. We had the fuel tank replaced in January of 2008 under warranty for the same issue. Obviously there is an issue with the tanks and their manufacturing process. Concern is the tank was replaced with a defective tank that was manufactured during the recall time frame, but concerned is not being addressed because the VIN # does not fall with in a certain manufacturing date. I am greatly concerned due to the recall stating that the issue can cause fire. What will it take for Dodge to recognize the issue.

When we filled up at the gas station the car didn't plug itself when it got full--gas ran out all over my hands, car and ground. This has happened at least 4 times in the last year. The dealership tells me that my VIN is not one of the cars registered for a recall for the fuel tank inlet check valve--which it should be! this is a fire waiting to happen!!!!.
When refueling the vehicle at the gas pump and the tank becomes full and the gas pump clicks fuel spews out of the gas tank opening.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired according to NHTSA campaign number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline), but the failure recurred. Upon re-fueling the vehicle, the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve would not fully close or the filler neck may have fractured and caused a leakage. The dealer stated that the contact was to re-fuel the vehicle to test the failure, and that the contact did not comply with what the dealer stated. The dealer performed a smoke test, but found no failure. The dealer refused to remedy the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to another dealer. The vehicle was also included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v313000 (air bags). The dealer was unable to determine when the part would become available to schedule the recall repair. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
When the gas tank is being filled there is no longer a shut off that occurs thus gas overflows on car, person and gas station floor.

I have a 2005 Dodge Durango 5. 7 we have had multiple issues with the fuel tanks when I go to fill up it spews gas back out at me. I bought this car used about 3 yrs ago contacted Dodge and they told me that mine is not a part of the 2 recalls that they have with the exact same issue so it was not a safety concern to them. We had the original tank replaced within a few mths and had to take it back immediately for the exact same issue. After that it worked well for the past 2. 5 yrs and now I'm having the exact same issue with the tank again. I bought this needed a big vehicle for my family. I don't think that I should be having to replace tank assemblies every few yrs for an issue that the company knows about.
