3 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2013

We were filling the fuel tank at a gas station, after the tank was filled it sprayed fuel on my wife. I have investigated this issue online and found this recall. I will also contact Dodge ,but I also have read a few instances where they are resistant to this safety issue so I decided to also report it here.

5 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2012

When I fill my gas tank to full or close to full, the gas leaks or sprays back around the fuel door.

6 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2012

I just purchased this vehicle used from a certified Chrysler dealership. Before finalizing purchase, the dealership filled the gas tank for us. The sales manager noted that he needed to clean up the side of the vehicle--that the gas pump had overflowed. 2 days later when I went to fill up the tank, I had the same issue--the gas tank overflowed. I have looked this issue up online and it seems there was a recall for only a select set of VIN numbers. According to Chrysler, my vehicle was not a part of the recall. Clearly, my vehicle should have been included. It appears the fix to this issue is to replace the gas tank. Also, it is now clear to me that the 2 small rust bubbles near the gas tank are being caused by gas overflowing every time somebody fills up the vehicle. This is a safety issue and should be fixed by the Chrysler corporation.

7 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2012

I bought a used 2005 Dodge Durango limited on 4/3/2012. After the purchase I went to the gas station to fill it up. Gas spilled out of the tank when I attempted to fill the tank. Since then, this has happened two more times. I contacted Chrysler and filed a complaint because this is a serious safety issue. I was told there was a recall on the gas tank filler tubes on some Durangos, but that the recall was not for 2005 models. This is a fearful situation as I bought this vehicle to transport my grandchildren.

8 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2012

Before gas nozzle clicks off. Gas sprays back out the tank and goes all over person, car, and ground. After the spray of gas the nozzle will click off.

Updated 04/25/13 the consumer stated dealer advised the manufacturer that the vehivcle had two leaks that were causing the failure. The dealer claimed the second leak was unrelated to the first leak. The consumer has a video clip of the failure. Updated 05/17/2013.

10 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2012

While filling up the gas tank, gas sprayed out once the tank hit full. I called Dodge due to the fact there was a recall on this exact incident with the same year, make, and model. I was informed that my VIN was not one of those that was included in the recall. But I was offered to go ahead and pay for the repair and then call them back and they would give me a Chrysler address I could send a copy of the original form of payment and the detailed bill and they might reimburse me for my expense.

11 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2012

When fueling my vehicle, the gasoline always overflows and spills out onto the ground and myself when the tank gets full. My VIN # was not included in the recall and we just bought this used from a dealership. Is there any way we can get this remedied at no more cost to us?.

12 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2012

When putting fuel in the gas tank, once it fill up it shoots gas out. Not a little gas either, alot of gas. It's very dangerous. They had a recall on the 2006 through 2008 Durangos but not the 2005. The recall was for check valve in the gas tank. This is extremely dangerous and I can't believe the wouldn't want to fix this before someone really gets hurt.

13 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated fuel spilled out of the filler neck upon refueling. The failure recurred whenever fuel was added. The failure mileage was 68,340. Updated 02/06/bf updated 02/29/12.

14 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2011

Fuel gushes out of the gas tank when filling up with gas. About one or two seconds after the fuel nozzle automatically shuts off because the tank is full, fuel will gush out of the tank for about another one to two seconds. I believe this is a fire hazard and a general safety concern. The Dodge dealer tells me it's a stuck roll over valve and not under waranty or covered in a recall.

16 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2011

Fuel spitting out of tank on fill up.

17 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2011

The car's fuel tank fails to shut-off, I. E. It doesn't appropriately respond to the shut-off mechanism. Gasoline overflows from the tank, sometimes in a spills out sometimes it flows out! it doesn't matter if I use the lowest setting on the gas pump or if I manually fill the tank, once full it overfills every single time I'm refueling and gas pours out of the fill spout, running down the body of the vehicle, on my hand on my clothes and on the ground! it's not just dangerous with simple static electricity, it's a fire waiting to happen!.

18 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

Gas has started overflowing/spraying out when filling up. Pump stops and seconds later it happens. The first time it happened it sprayed some fuel on one of my boys who was standing by me. Thankfully, it didn't get in his eye. I first thought it was the pump but since realized its the vehicle. This seems to be fairly common issue and I have seen the two recalls on this due to the tanks inlet check valves not shutting properly. The recalls cover vehicles made through Nov. 04. My Durango was made Dec 04 so Dodge won't touch it.

19 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2011

I had my 2005 Durango into the local dealership due to fuel shooting out of my gas tank when I filled it up with gas. I was told after diagnostic tests that it was a faulty inlet check valve and that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. I was quoted $1200 to have the tank replaced. I don't believe that I should have to pay for the tank replacement. After much online research, I see that this has been an ongoing issue on Dodge/Chrysler vehicles for the past several years. It is my understanding that my '05 Durango VIN didn't fall under the 2005 and 2009 recall, but that other vehicles were later added to the 2009 recall. This is my main source of transportation. I have two small children and feel this is safety hazard due to a manufacturing defect therefore, they should be the ones to fix it at no charge to me. Thank you in advance for your prompt and immediately attention to resolve this problem.

20 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2011

My wife and I purchased this pre-owned vehicle 10/29/2011. This happens everytime we fill the tank. The fuel handle clicks to shut of the flow of gasoline to the tank, then about a second later, the fuel begins to spew back out of the tank, draining down the exterior of the vehicle, covering the ground, and myself as I stand nearby. Each time I estimate between 1/4 & 1/2 gallon of fuel is wasted. I verified with my local Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep 5 star dealer that my VIN isn't included in the limited recall from years past. This is a huge safety issue as my wife runs a home daycare and children are frequently in the Durango where fumes are prevelant after the spill.

28 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2011

When I fill up with gasoline, if I do not stop 2 gallons shy of a fill or slow it to a trickle, it will spew about a 1/2 gallon of gasoline down the side of the vehicle. I have done an online search and found Chrysler is recalling close to 25,000 2005 Dodge Durango vehicles as the fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. This could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. I called and my particular 2005 Durango was no included in the recall while clearly having this same problem. I would like to see if Dodge would expand their recall to those experiencing this exact problem.
