When filling fuel tank fuel gurgles then spits out after the nozzle clicks off. It happens every time I fill the tank no matter what filling station.
Nhtsa action number rq08005: inv. Closed 9 Jan 09 the spit back problem continued in the field for vehicles built from mid-October through the end of November. Chrysler reported process modifications were implemented on 11/24/04 to address spit back problems and believes these process changes would have been incorporated in all vehicles built at the assembly plant as of 11/30/04. In the two plus years since the investigation was closed, the NHTSA has received over 300 complaints pertaining to the issue that was supposedly corrected by the expanded recall. Nearly all of these complaints stated that the vehicle with the problem was not included in the recall. Please re-open the investigation! the investigation was closed based on a "belief" without checking the veracity of the claim made by Chrysler! the spit-back problem is still a problem- Chrysler knows it, otherwise they wouldn't have been so quick to make me an offer because they're concerned about the safety of my family. Incidentally, my 2005 Durango was manufactured in Feb of 2005 making it obvious that the "process modifications" were not incorporated in all vehicles and the supplier of the fuel tanks actually did not make the stated manufacturing change. My recommendation: expand the recall to any 2005 Durango experiencing the known safety issue related to the fuel spit back problem. Unless of course, Chrysler is leveraging risk vs. Cost of an expanded recall and weighing the odds that the NHTSA will just let this one slide. Please advise. . . Dear customer: case #: 21232269 VIN: 1d8hb58d15f585193 vehicle description: Dodge Durango limited 4x4 sport utility 4-door parts: $729. 00 labor: $260. 47 total: $989. 47 CO-pay = $350. 00 vehicle is not covered under recall because VIN does not fall under recall and recalls are VIN specific. Sincerely, sam customer care.
When filling the gas tank gas will spill out of the filler neck onto the vehicle, ground, and person once the pump shuts off when full. Confirmed by Dodge dealership that the filler value in the neck is malfunctioning. Researched and found recalls on certain 2005 vins and extended warranties on 2006-2008 models. My VIN was not covered and Dodge will not support the recall even though it is the same issue they have acknowledged on the same model year.
Cannot fill up my fuel tank without getting gasoline spray. Anytime the gas station pump is allowed to shut itself off it sprays fuel out. This is at every gas station I have ever gone to. The hazard of a significant fuel spill! this has been an ongoing problem.
On numerous occasions when filling my gas tank the automatic shut off ( that tells you the tank is full) has not kicked in causing the tank to over flow and kick back gas spray all over me, my fiance, or the attendant at the gas station. This is not something that has happened just once, but multiple times in the 9 months I have owned this vehicle. I have checked for recalls and my VIN comes back with no active recalls, I even went as far as reading in detail the NHTSA recall reports (09v003000 and 05v034000) to obtain manufacture dates to compare against my own. Needless to say mine does not fit in the date range (3/1/04-11/30/04) having been manufactured in February 2005, but does infact have the same issue as the models under recall. This is something I want to have fixed but don't feel I should have to pay to do so seeing as this is an issue they knew they had and claimed to have fixed but quite obviously did not. I am tired of being afraid to fill my gas tank and getting covered in gas when I do.
Every time I fill my vehicle up with gas it back washes out of the filler tube. When making contact with Dodge Chrysler I was told my vehicle's VIN # was not included in any of the past recalls. At this time Dodge Chrysler has offered a CO-pay remedy since the vehicle is no longer under warranty. To resolve the issue I was told the vehicle needs a new gas tank and filler nozzle. Is there anyway to get them to expand the VIN # chart to include other vehicles that are having the same issue??.
During filling gas on my 2005 Dodge Durango limited (5. 7 l hemi), the gas has started running out or spraying out of the filling nozzle as the fuel tank becomes full. This has happened on more than 5 occasions. The manufacturer was contacted and claims my VIN number is not part of the recall for a faulty fuel tank check valve, but I continually have to monitor my gas gauge as I'm filling my vehicle each time to avoid gas spewing out and onto the ground. This is a safety and environmental hazard that must be addressed. This is a similar issue on this model with select VIN numbers, but for some reason, mine is not covered?.
When filling my tank, as soon as the gas pump shuts off, fuel spews out of the car, on to ground, and myself if standing nearby. The only way to keep this from happening is to not fill the tank all the way.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that fuel spilled from the tank during refueling. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and they confirmed that the vehicle did not qualify for repairs under NHTSA campaign id number: 09v003000. (fuel system, gasoline: storage:tank assembly). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 130,000 and the current mileage was 145,000.
To whom it may concern, I have a 2005 Dodge Durango 5. 7l. Recently after filling the fuel tank the fuel "spits back" out of the filler tube and down the side of the vehicle to the ground. I have read numerous complaints online for this exact problems on these and other Chrysler group vehicles. I started a case with Chrysler and took the vehicle to the dealership as they wanted. After the inspection they determined that my vehicle does not fall under a recall for the exact same problem. There is a TSB # 14-001-09 to repair this problem, but, my vehicle is not in the VIN range for the repairs. I feel it is more of a safety issue and an environmental issue than an inconvenience. The dealer states that the fuel tank needs replaced at a cost of over $800 for the tank and 2. 5 hours of labor. The fuel tank does not take that long to replace. Is there anything that can be done to get these vehicles repaired? or should we just continue to spill raw gasoline on the ground after every fill up? if I were the only person having these issues I would take ownership of the needed repairs and fix it myself but, as we know there are thousands of vehicles with the same issue. Please contact me if there is any solution to this problem. Thanks.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that upon refueling, fuel began to spill out from the fuel filler neck. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was refueled. The manufacturer was notified and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that the vehicle would jerk while changing gears at various speeds. The manufacturer was notified and the contact was informed the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 05v460000 (power train:automatic transmission). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 103,000.
Whenever I fill the gas tank, gas comes pouring back out at me. I have called Chrysler and they told me that my vehicle VIN was not included in the recall. This happens every time I fill the tank! there's at least a 1/4 to 1/2 a gallon of gas that comes pouring out. Not only do I have to pay for this wasted fuel I also am putting several people at risk of a fire every time I fill up due to the unsafe nature of the problem. I expect that when I purchase a vehicle that it's going to be safe. Doesn't Chrysler have their customers safety in mind. . . . If so, correct the problem!.
My 2005 Dodge Durango splashes gas out of the tank when refueling. It has been diagnosed by the dealership and the gas tank needs to be replaced. This is an $1111 repair on an issue addressed in a limited recall. Why is my vehicle not part of this recall when it is having the recall problem? this is a major safety issue, gas splashing out of the tank, onto the truck, the ground and myself.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while refueling, fuel began to spill from the filler neck. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The contact was also advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 87,000 and the current mileage was 87,400.
When filling fuel tank, after automatic shutoff by pump the fuel tank spews fuel out. This is, apparently, a fairly common problem with Dodge Durangos.
I own a 2005 Dodge Durango which has had a fuel issue from the day we got it. Almost every time we fill the tank, gasoline continues to spill out of the nozzle. This is especially noticeable when we fill up with the older stlye pumps that do not have the plastic sleeves on them. My investigation revealed a recall for the inlet valve but Chrysler/Dodge says my VIN series is not covered. This issue obviously encompasses more vehicles than the recall indicates. Chrysler stated they would look into the mattter but I would have to pay a 95 dollar diagnostic and if it was the fuel inlet valve. . It would require "customer participation" to fix. They are willing to assist but tell me I will be responsible for between 100 and 500 dollars of the repair costs plus tthe 95 dollar diagnostic fee. I wish to add my complaint to the list of individuals who have allready complained about this very concern. Dodge needs to be held accountable for all of the vehicles experiencing this issue. It makes little sense that some 2005 Durango's are recalled but my particular one is not when the issue is the same. Please help.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that upon refueling, fuel began to spill out from the filler neck. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and also stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. No other assistance was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000. Sm.
We have been having trouble fueling our Durango for the last 5 months. When the tank is full the pumps shuts off and then gasoline spews out of the filler tube. On myself or the attendant, the truck, and the ground. It does not matter the station or speed of fill. There are two open recalls for this same issue but I have been told by local dealer my VIN is not included. I request that Chrysler/Dodge be forced to expand the effected vehicles VIN numbers and do there part to protect their customers and the environment but stopping the spill of gas on us and the ground.
My gas tank splashes back at me when I fill it. When I went to get it checked out I was informed that my VIN number was not on the recall list that is stating an identical problem to other 2005 Dodge Durangos.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while refueling, fuel escaped from the vehicle through the filler neck. The failure always occurred when the pump was set to refuel automatically. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer, however the manufacturer was notified. The manufacturer stated that the VIN did not qualify for the recall under NHTSA campaign id number 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). The failure mileage was 100,00 and the current mileage was 111,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that fuel spilled out of the fuel tank whenever it was added to the fuel tank. The contact also noticed NHTSA recall campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline tank: assembly), but the manufacturer stated the vehicle was not included. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage is 130,000. Updated 11/17/11 updated 11/23/11.
When re-fueling the gas tank on my 2005 Dodge Durango, once the tank is full and the gas pump shuts off, excess gas spills out of filler tube all down the side of my truck and the ground. Took my vehicle to the dealership and they confirmed that the fuel tank check valve is sticking and not releasing properly.
Fuel spews out of filler neck when refueling before tank is full unless fuel is added very slowly and pump is stopped and handle is removed from filler neck each time after adding 2-6 gallons depending on how much fuel is currently in tank.
Upon filling up at the gas station, when the pump shut off, there was an overflow from the gas tank. About the same time, I had to replace the tires and was told the car needed to have the ball joints replaced and there was a recall out for the job. However, I was told my VIN number did not qualify.
Dodge Durango fuel tank inlet check valve - safety recall: I own a 2005my Dodge Durango that has had issues with fuel spilling out of the filler tube after filling at a gas station. This occurs every time the tank is filled, resulting in 1-2 seconds backflow out of the fuel tank and running down the side of the vehicle or onto my hands. My brother-in-law, who works at Chrysler, owns a 2008my Durango with the same issue. I have information on Chrysler safety recall h45 and e01 that seem to be directly related to this issue. When taken to the dealer for investigation, they did nothing and claimed there was no recall available for this issue and provided me with an estimate to replace the fuel tank (~$900). I would like my issue included under the terms of the other related safety recalls. Please contact me.
When fueling, as the truck reaches a full tank it will spew gas after the pump has shut off. My vehicle was initially included in the first recall, and my replaced tank worked well for a few years. A few months ago the problem recurred and has continued at each fill. For me it's not an issue because I know how much I can put in before hitting full. But my wife and I just switched vehicles and it is a real concern for her.
Fuel began spraying from neck of gas tank when filling up in fall of 2010. We tried refilling at large number of service stations across utah, nevada and California, with the same result when the nozzle clicks off, fuel gushes out of the fuel tank. I took it to the local Dodge dealer in, and after spending $260, they were not able to fix the problem. It will cost another $500 to $1000 to fix this dangerous problem. There was a recall of lower VIN # Durangos to fix this, but not for our VIN #. This is a serious safety issue as well as a waste of gas and a pollution problem.
Every time I fill up the fuel tank on my 2005 Dodge Durango, at least a gallon spills out of the filler neck when it has finished fueling. This could easily start a fire or explosion and could seriously injure people. Chrysler has refused to look at the vehicle stating that it is not covered in a previous recall for the exact same issue.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While fueling, the contact noticed that fuel began to spill from the filler neck. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage: tank assembly) that may be related to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 74,126.
I have two safety concerns about our 2005 Dodge Durango. First, during the end of fuel filling, as the vapor lock on the pump engages and shuts the valve to the pump off, gas immediately spews from the filler neck, as if the tank depressurized. It has happened to me three (3) times now. This is a major safety concern! the result could cause a fire resulting in serious injury or worse! the other issue that I have a major concern with is that the vehicle stalls during low speed turning. If at an intersection and attempting a turn, the vehicle may stall and cause an accident. This has happened to me more than ten (10) times in the eight months that we have owned the vehicle. This too is a major concern as it can also cause serious injury or worse to not only myself, wife, young children, and others that may become involved in an accident if it where to happen! I have reported the issues to Dodge and their response to me is to have the vehicle diagnosed. I do plan on doing this however, while researching the issues online, I have found a many numbers of vehicles (same year, make, and model) with the exact same issues. This leads me to believe that this is not isolated and should be cause for safety concerns throughout the nation for the vehicles/owners.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that fuel was spewed from the fuel filler neck while refueling the vehicle. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly) and was advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer however, offered the liability of a portion of the repair costs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 61,000.
My 2005 Dodge Durango has been spitting back fuel every time I refuel for the last 5-6 months. I took it to a local Dodge dealer for 90k service & asked them to check out what was causing the problem. Service manager called me & I was told I needed to replace the gas tank for over $700. I did not authorize the work. There was no mention of the recall or any other complaints about this problem. I hung up & got online. After a few minutes of searching the internet I see this is a serious issue & I am not alone. It seems to me a recall of only a small number of the effected vehicles is no solution. I intend to contact Dodge & complain.
While fueling the vehicle, gas leaks out onto the undercarriage without exiting out of the top of the fuel tank filler neck and well before the tank is full. It is as though something internal to the fuel neck is restricting the incoming fuel and forcing it out. The leaking only occurs during fueling. The fuel never comes out of the top of the filler neck, the only indicator of a problem to the person who is fueling the vehicle is a large pool of gas under the vehicle and the strong smell of gasoline.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that when he filled the fuel tank, the fuel would spit back out. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the failure was caused by the fuel inlet link. The contact referenced recall 09v003000 (fuel system, gasoline: storage: tank assembly) but was informed that the vehicle was not included. The current and failure mileages were 34,500.
Fuel tank overflows every time I fill the tank. There is a recall for the 2005 Dodge Durango for this problem however my VIN # is not included in the recall. Chrysler states I must pay to have the vehicle diagnosed which is non refundable.
