Battery light came on on Friday night. Started my car Saturday morning to leave and started smelling an awful smell so shut my car off. I replaced my battery in the same spot my car sat (in my driveway). My hood was up still and the alternator was burning and smoking. I shut the car off. On Sunday replaced the alternator. Thought all was well. Drove the car 5 miles down the road and the battery light came back on. I pulled over at the local store and my car would not start again. Took the new alternator out and took it down to where I bought it to have it tested. It tested good. I replaced it anyways. Put that alternator in. Started car. Battery still not charging with new alternator in. Lights, windshield wipers and all codes started going crazy in the car. Then car died again. Monday morning, replaced the brand new battery again. Not charging. Took car to shop for diagnosis. Ecm/pcm bad and needs replaced. Alternator fried the ecm/pcm. While doing research found recall t36. My VIN does not fall under this recall. My car is the same years and model but my VIN is not. My alternator almost started on fire ( which they do not smoke and short things out) typically unless they have issues which obviously the manifacture knows about. I believe that my car should fall under this recall and Dodge and the recall company does not want to help or help me understand why it wouldnt. I understand they are just doing their job. Please help me get my VIN on this recall as my battery, alternator and ecm/pcm all have and need to be replaced due to the alternator shorting out and would have started on fire if my hood would not have been up and me walking in front of my car and seeing the smoke coming from the alternator. Dodge is waiting for the part to come in now to replace the ecm. Thanks for your time.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Dodge Durango. The contact stated they had their vehicle repaired for a recall regarding the alternator (contact was unable to verify recall number), however, they were informed that the ecm board was faulty due to the damage on the voltage regulator which was caused by the failure indicaticated with the alternator mentioned in the recall. The contact stated that the following day while the contact's wife was driving pulling out of the parking lot the vehicle's electrical system began to show signs of low battery. The contact stated their wife stated shortly after the vehicle shut off due to a dead battery. The vehicle was towed to the dealership (barbera autoland located at 7810 roosevelt blvd, philadelphia, PA 19152 phone number: 215-309-8670) who diagnosed that the ecm board failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened case number: 68047300. The manufacturer contacted the dealer who stated that the recall part was replaced and the ecm board was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000. Gl.
Wife drove vehicle with no issue, and after arriving home - with 3 children in the vehicle; while stationary (in park) & vehicle running (while kids finishing watching a video), she heard a 'terrible squeeling sound'; she sequentially closed sunroof, turned off a/c, and lowered sound level of stereo - sound persisted. She turned car off, then back on - smoke began to bellow out of the engine compartment. A fire extinguisher was discharged through grill area by a family member (who is a certified emt/fire fighter, if that matters), who did not want to open the hood. I arrived ~15 minutes later, and opened the hood and the alternator was clearly smoking, and the serpentine belt was discolored on the alternator pulley. Called auto service for tow. When wrecker arrived, I attempted to put car in neutral, but no actuation of the shifter would work - as no power; tow service had to use the bypass. Vehicle taken to dealership. I did some cursory research on this phenomenon, found an outstanding recall for this issue (t36); I called following day to make recall claim. Fca "special investigator" did an investigation on 9/10, I have not heard from them - and I have called no fewer than 4 times inquiring. Dealership service manager informed me late yesterday he received approval to perform work on the two (2) outstanding recalls on vehicle, but not covering damage due to the fire - at least that is what was relayed to me.

In reference to recall t36 on 2011-2014 Dodge Durango for alternator malfunction. My vehicle is at dealership for repairs and the total is 1296. 19 and the Chrysler corp does not want to paid for the repairs because my VIN is not under that recall but my vehicle is the same make and model of the recall. Eariler complaint on 7/8/19.
The battery and alternator are brand new, but the battery keeps getting empty either the alternator that mopar replace is bad, or the voltage regulator doesn't work.
Car stalls out. Noticed there were recalls for alternator but doesnt come up on your website. Do recalls expire. Wife was driving on residential street when car stalled. She was able to get it started. Happened twice in last month.
T36 recall. Driving down a busy street, battery light illuminated for a second, wipers stopped working, car immediately shut off. Key stuck in ignition. Went to try and have care jump started, did not work. Felt cables from battery and alternator both hot. Towed to dealership. Dealership diagnosed stating recall for alternator, pcm fried. Dealership is stating not related. Called fca group who stated dealer would have to call them. Dealer states not related, no outcome. Having vehicle towed away as dealer is quoting me $1100. 00 for repairs to pcm. During fault, intersection was very busy main streets, infant in car seat cars 1 car was close to hitting vehicle. Very unsafe. Unable to put car in gear, had to have police behind car as hazards would not work. Power to vehicle not on.

2013 Dodge Durango. Consumer writes in regards to alternator diode thermal fatigue safety recall.
I bought my vehicle brand new. On several occasions it refused to crank. I completed the recall on the fuel pump & alternator. However, this weekend it began having the same problem. Then Sunday it completed stop. I was told my tow company, this an ongoing problem with Dodge. Why have them been made to fix this issue.
I was never sent a recall notice for my vehicle to start, my wife was driving the vehicle when it lost all power and the alternator caught fire. My vehicle is currently at pelligreno Jeep in woodbury heights, NJ. I have been in constant back and forth with fca the agency that is handling the recall they are refusing to give me a loaner and are pushing back on covering some of the repairs. This happened over 5 weeks ago and it is effecting our home and professional lives. I have been routinely lied too and hung up on, we are asking for assistance, my contact number is (xxxxx). The vehicle was in motion traveling on state road. Parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. For months now, I have had to complain to my Dodge dealer where I purchased my 2013 Dodge Durango and get it serviced about how it suddenly stalls while driving. I have associated it with hitting a bump such as a pothole or going over railroad tracks and it will die out and I have to put it in park. It will then start right back up. It has happened on city streets as well as highways. No codes are showing up and battery and alternator check out fine. Cables all have a good connection and fuses are said to be good. I get told "have to wait until it gets worse" or "you'll have to leave it with us so we can drive it and wait for it to do it" but this is my only vehicle and it may do it numerous times one day and will never do it again over the next month. It's random. I have noticed there was an alternator recall on 2011-14 yr makes of the Durangos but my VIN shows mine is clear and the fuel pump relay recall has been fixed. Something is definitely not right.
While driving on the freeway with my son, the electrical system shut down causing the vehicle to lose all power. Without touching the keys or anything, the vehicle seemed to "reboot" and started operating normal again as I pulled over. This seems to be the exact problem outlined by the multiple recalls issued by fca on the alternator (recall 17v435000 and recall 14v634000) however, they refuse to service my alternator or even check the part number of the alternator to confirm if it is an affected part!!! I do not have another car and live in constant fear that this issue is putting myself and my children in danger every day!!!.
Stopped at a light and vehicle started to smoke. No other indicators that anything was wrong. Opened hood and the alternator was smoking. Closed the hood pushed out of the way of traffic and walked away. Car caught fire and burned. Total loss. There is a recall on the alternator for my vehicle and Dodge is claiming no fault. Recall # p60 / NHTSA 14v-634.
I've been having issues with my vehicle stalling at random times where I'm stuck stranded for about 2 to 5 minutes before the vehicle will start again within the last year. I've had multiple cases open with Chrysler and the local dealership in hampon virginia. My current case number with Chrysler is 34055781. I'm now getting the run around and Chrysler seems unwilling to help me. This vehicle is unsafe and unreliable and I fear my family or myself will end up in an accident due to the lack of steering when it shuts off without warning. I've look on the internet and it's littered with this very issue that Chrysler will not acknowledge as a issue. I don't know where else to turn and I hope that someone can provide me some guidance and let me know what options if any I have to either get out of this vehicle through Chrysler or make them fix the issue permanently. It stalls at random, sitting at a red light, driving down the highway at any given speed. Chrysler claims that they've replaced alternators, fuel pump relay and tipm, but it's still doing it and it started out of nowhere. I've reported this issue about 6 times to pomoco Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of hampton and 4 times now to Chrysler.
The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Durango. While driving 45 mph, the accelerator pedal was applied but failed to respond. The vehicle stalled and the abs warning indicator and traction control indicator illuminated. Additionally, the power steering became inoperable. The vehicle was towed to rockwall Chrysler Jeep Dodge (970 I-30 e, rockwall, TX 75087) where it was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact to pay for the repairs. The contact was informed that he would be reimbursed when the parts become available. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
Takata recall. Recall for the alternator. I was driving on a very busy high way 77south speed limit 65 mph with my family n the vehicle when my vehicle suddenly started slowing down and I was unable to steer . My car had completely shut off nothing electrical worked. It put my family and I in a very dangerous situation with out any warning. And now I had to buy a brand new battery.
In December 2017 said vehicle was towed to the shop for a no start condition. After bringing it in we determined a severe short in the electrical system, traced to alternator. We also found melted battery. Found this vehicle fell under the t36 recall from fca. We got approval at that time to repair the vehicle and received a case number for reimbursement. We had to call back multiple times to continue authorization, and was told as long as the problems were related to the alternator then they would be reimbursed from 30-60 days from the time of submission. After submitting needed paper work and documentation we waited. The customer stopped in in may and asked us to check on it since he had not heard anything yet. Called fca and found out that nothing had been done with the claim because of an internal error that sent the paper work to the wrong department. After calling again on 6/13/18 we found out that again, it had not been filed or sent to the right people. Today (6/13/18) I sent the information again and was promised it would be taken care of. It has now been 6 months from the date of the repair and no effort has been made to reimburse the customer for anything. Fca said it would be handled in 30-60 days. I feel that this is unreasonable. This customer has been very understanding but is running out of patience. We now have 3 different case numbers and I have documentation of talking to 4 different people to resolve the matter. The case numbers that have been assigned are as follows: 1) leunora, # 33018264, 2) contact: barbara, # 34112492, 3) matt, #345530486. I feel that as it is a recall and Chrysler did not have a solution for the problem at the time, and authorized us to repair, they have handled the situation very poorly. Please look into the matter or at least please let me know who I can contact to make a proper complaint. Thank you, eric.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Dodge Durango. On several occasions, while attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to crank. Also, the battery warning indicator illuminated and smoke appeared under the hood. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The contact called autonation Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram and fiat north columbus (3000 n lake pkwy #100, columbus, GA 31909, (706) 522-2116) and was informed that there would be a fee. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
I received a recall notice in June 2017 regarding an alternator issue on my 2013 Dodge Durango. It is now November 2017 and there is still no remedy. My battery light came on this morning after driving for less than five minutes in a 30 mph zone. I have an infant daughter so I cannot risk any battery issues in the dead of winter in upstate new york. It has been nearly six months since the recall was issued with no remedy available. The risks include heat/smoke or even fire within the alternator. Six months seems like a ridiculous amount of time for a repair of this magnitude to be not be resolved. I will have the alternator replaced and submit for a reimbursement but I shouldn't have to go through that process and incur those kinds of expenses so close to the holiday season when they've had six months to react to the situation.
Vehicle alternator started to smoke and catch on fire, after shorting itself out. Vehicle was on the road then parked in driveway. I reported it to Dodge who advised it was on recall (t36). Called Chrysler customer care to report. They set up a tow and advised that they would replace with current model alternator and if needed the pcm and battery. Dealership now stating Chrysler will not cover pcm or battery. Now I have a vehicle at the dealership that wont run with a new alternator . Chrysler care made notes when I first talked with them on this case # 32398928 from customer care. Now they will not admidt that they authorized repair of altornator, pcm , and battery.
P60 recall a joke when lives are at risk!! my family could have been killed and we need a class action suit to get Dodge to take peoples lives seriously! my wife was driving our 2013 Durango with my two young girls coming home from school when they all noticed a bad burning smell and then smoke started coming through the air vents and the a/c went hot. She pulled over and I came to meet them on side of busy military trail with the burning truck I was told. Lifted the hood and I noticed the alternator was super hot and had burned the serpentine belt. Went to check battery in truck actually under passanger's seat, this was extremely hot as well. Had Durango towed to house the research more about problem and found this recall p60!! I figured the alternator was fried and battery took a dump as well, so off I went to purchased both parts for me to replace and hopefully fix this major life safety issue. I put in the new battery and the alternator began to smoke badly and truck was actually off. Pulled battery out and then decided to change alternator first. All complete and then hooked up new battery all well, truck started and no smoke. Battery light came on now and truck wipers started to go with dash light doing crazy things, truck stalled out and would not restart. Finally had it towed to local firestone for diagnostics and currently still waiting to find out what is wrong and how much it will be to fix truck back to normal. I am scared for my family that drives in this truck everyday. I can not believe my vehicle and others this has happened to is not on recall due to stupid amps!! Dodge and Chrysler should be ashamed they have done nothing and scared of the first person or family they will kill with these Durangos. I hope something is done quickly to resolve issues and pay for all the fixes needed because of their faulty trucks. Must recall all now!.
The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 30 mph, all the warning indicators suddenly illuminated and the vehicle stalled. Smoke began to fill up the cabin from the vents inside the vehicle. The contact had the vehicle towed to kendall Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, ram in miami, FL where it was diagnosed that the alternator, pcm, and battery failed due to an internal short and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v634000 (electrical system) and 17v435000 (electrical system); however, the VIN was excluded from both recalls. The manufacturer opened case number: 32173838 and stated they would be able to offer little assistance regarding the repair separate from the recalls. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Durango. While driving 35 mph, there was a loud noise under the hood and a strong burning odor was detected. The contact noticed smoke under the hood. The fire department opened the hood and noticed that there was only smoke and no fire. As of 7/28/2017, while driving on the highway the alternator went out causing the computer system to also go out and the car stall having no power . The vehicle had to be tow to the repair shop.
The alternator went out causing the computer system to also go out while driving down a highway. The vehicle had to be towed to a Dodge repair shop.
Driving 55mph, battery light comes on, the engine starts whining and I start to lose power as I pull into my driveway. Check manual and it says the battery light is the electrical charging system. I get out of the car and smell an electrical burning smell. Manual says take to dealer for service. Service confirms the electical burning smell came from a bad alternator. Check for recalls and one just came out July 11, 2017 recall # t36 for this exact problem I just had. I send recall info to Dodge service and they claim my VIN doesn't fall under the recall. How in the world does it not fall under the recall when it is doing exactly what the recall was stating?.
Alternator caught on fire, impacting my battery and after getting this fixed I am still having problems with the vehicle failing after I just got it out of the service center. The first time the alternator caught on fire it was in idle, stationary. The second altercation after picking it up from the dealership it had interior/exterior lights going on and off along with my windshield wipers operating while off. I have had a number of problems since purchasing this vehicle and believe I was sold a lemon. I would like to get this addressed ASAP! thanks much.
Driving down the street under normal conditions when battery light came on and a strong burning smell appeared. Pulled over to find heavy smoke coming from the engine--appeared to be the alternator burning. Took the car immediately to a local garage down the block from incident. They started the car and verified the alternator had failed, was smoking, and about to catch fire. All gauges were misreading. Alternator was replaced but the dash warning lights and electrical components are no longer working. (speedometer, gauges, warning lights, radio. . . ) notified Dodge with no resolution to this point.
June 4 2017while driving my 2013 Dodge Durango 55200 miles we experienced 100%electrical failure that caused the vehicle to shut down while operating on a city street. . Engine failure, loss of brakes, cooling system and radio shirt off and wipers came on as vehicle died. Smoke entered the cabin and we were unable to operate windows and door locks. Our toddlers were in the 2nd and 3rd row seating. We had to climb over the front seats to get the kids out safely. The 180 amp alternator failed exactly as the 160 amps safety recall have been recalled. The alternator melted and melted the connector cable and damaged the battery and pcm. We contacted fca and the refused to apply the 160 amp safety recall to our vehicle.
2013 Durango awd crew- was driving the vehicle around 40 mph. Avoidance maneuver required heavy breaking (could feel abs working). Upon moving the vehicle again from a standstill, noted a strong odor. Thought it might just be the brakes. Drove less than a mile and parked vehicle for about 90 minutes. Started vehicle again and within 5 minutes (never getting the vehicle above 40mph) noted the strong odor again. Soon after the battery icon appeared on the console. Drove another mile and stopped the vehicle to investigate. Other than the odor, nothing else was found. Could not locate specific location of odor. Decided to take vehicle to dealership about 6 miles away. Vehicle started w/o the battery icon but within a mile it reappeared. Odor present the whole time but no smoke. Sunday--dealership was closed. On Monday, dealership called to say our alternator was fried and we needed a new one.
The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle started to smoke. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road and noticed smoke under the hood coming from the alternator. The contact waited a few minutes to restart the vehicle and it lost all power. In addition, the contact stated that the key failed to eject from the ignition switch. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator caused the battery and the computer system to fail. The vehicle was repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.
The alternator recently failed with symptoms identical to those described in Dodge's p60 recall notice, I. E. All electrical power shut-off without warning while driving. Fortunately my son was able to safely pull over to the side of the road. Despite this failure which is very similar to that described in the p60 recall notice Dodge says it is not covered. Dodge should expand the number of vehicles subject to this particular recall. This could have been a very serious event if it had happened while driving on a busy freeway.
The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Durango. While driving 20 mph, a burning odor was present in the vehicle and smoke appeared from the front of the vehicle. The service battery warning indicator illuminated. The contact was able to drive the vehicle home. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that a bearing in the alternator fell out. The serpentine belt and alternator were replaced. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was 43,069.
