36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/14/2025

From manufacturing Dodge put a clamp on a rubber hose that goes to the transmission heater. That clamped rubbed a hole into the metal antifreeze line above it. My car started over heating on a busy road. Luckily I was able to pull off without being hit. Dodge doesn’t wanna do anything about it but it’s a known issue for the Durango’s. But Dodge won’t recall the issue. Instead their wanting to charge people anywhere from 2k up to 6k depending what state you live it. The issue is known to occur around 50k miles to around 65k miles.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/11/2025

I have been having issues with the start button, the engine cranking but not turning over. It will crank for 30 seconds, not start, all the lights come on and usually on the second attempt the car will start. Also I have powered off the radio while driving for a second, then the screen will not turn back on.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/03/2025

While driving on the highway, the engine overheating light came on, the car seemed to be losing power, and I pulled over and was then towed to the dealership. My safety was put at risk as I could have been hit as the car was slowing down in fast traffic; it also was extremely cold (about 5 degrees f) while I waited for the tow truck. The tow truck driver noted that I had lost coolant fluid due to a large puddle beneath the car. The dealership reported that the aluminum coolant line had rubbed against the transmission cooler and had broken through, causing a loss of fluid. The dealership replaced the coolant line and also stated that they cut an extra piece of aluminum and wrapped it around the coolant line to reinforce that line and stop it from rubbing through by rubbing against the transmission cooler. I stated that this seemed like a design defect but the dealership responded that these things just happen. I note that there appears to be a similar recall in 2022 Durango hellcats for the coolant line being subjected to abrasion from rubbing on the serpentine belt. The dealership did not return the parts to me; I do not know whether they provided them to the manufacturer for inspection.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/28/2025

On [xxx] my Durango started leaking coolant and steaming while I was driving. The steam was rising through the openings in the hood and was getting on the windshield. The coolant was pouring on the ground. I had to stop the car to prevent it from overheating. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer and they told me a coolant hose had broken at the rear of the engine. I did some research on this specific leak. I have a friend with the same year and model/trim as my Durango who also had the same exact problem just past 30k miles. When I looked online, I can find many instances of this same failure. Here's one example that includes some excellent photos of the issue: [xxx] the Dodge pn for this failed component 55038042aj. This part is common for 2011-2025 Durangos and is on at least the 6th engineering revision as evidence by is cross compatibility with 55038042ae, 55038042af, 55038042ag, 55038042ah, 55038042ai. This issue is systemic and dangerous. The engine can lose all coolant and overheat without warning. It spills coolant on the roadway creating a hazardous condition and the driver's view can be obstructed by the coolant on the windshield and in the air. There was no advance warning of this failure and I don't expect this sort of failure when a vehicle is so new and well maintained. The dealer fixed my vehicle at a cost of over $1700 for this repair which was just barely past the manufacturer's warranty term for the vehicle. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/06/2025

Twice this year this has happened. I was driving to work when suddenly the lights on the dash came on and the car started over heating. There was a ton of engine coolant under the car. Took the car to get repaired. They said the coolant lines rub against something under the car and caused a hole. They said it was a defect in the way the car is designed and there is nothing to hold up the coolant lines running to the rear of the vehicle. They told us we needed to contact Dodge and file a claim. We did and heard nothing back from them. Fast forward 6 months and it happens again. Car is currently at a Dodge dealership. Same issue. Filed another complaint and claim with them. Its been 3 weeks. 0 response. Car is still at the dealership.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/31/2025

Right hand and left hand intake camshaft were damaged by the slider rocker finger follower. Cylinder 5 was the worst. Metal was sent through the overhead and got into the intake phaser. Parts were recently removed by the dealer and should be available if request is made shortly. Failure was found prior to catastrophic failure due to noise from the engine compartment. Vehicle was dropped off in the overnight drop box to allow vehicle the best chance to replicate the noise. Noise was only noticeable during cold starts below 30°f at idle and no load. Once the car warmed up, the noise was much less noticeable and could easily have been overlooked. No check engine lights were illuminated. If problem was not corrected, I'm confident this vehicle would have left me stranded by loss of power during driving putting me and my family in an unsafe situation. I first noticed the objectionable noise in November 2024 but was unable to get it to replicate reliably so a dealer could diagnose it. The problem was replicated by a dealer and components were replaced under warranty @ 53,272 miles. Oil changes were completed in line or ahead of the oil life monitor system in the cars instrument cluster. This seems to be a cold climate design issue with no oil being provided to the intake camshaft to sliding rocker finger follower interface during start up as oil appears to be fed from exhaust side lash adjuster. I suspect this same issue will reappear as the replacement parts are the same with no apparent improvements. Since the repair I've noticed improved fuel economy, smoother accelerations and shifts, and overall less noise. The degradation of these things before was slow enough to be unnoticeable.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/22/2025

I was in a blizzard a few days ago on the freeway & got caught in a ditch, but thankfully got out. I wasn’t going that fast & couldn’t due to not being able to see through the snow well so I can drive safely. In order not to crash because there were semi trucks around, I had to whip the steering wheel along with the weight of the car on the snow in order not to crash due to the car being big & it was sliding pretty heavy & somehow a couple things went out of wack after turning my steering wheel. Definitely a scary experience. It is very hard to turn out of no where, as well it’s rare at times when it turns just a little smoothly. Also, once when first pulling off, it makes a consecutive clicking noise coming from or by the tires. When I give it acceleration while turning, as well, it makes that clicking sound. Then there’s just something about the engine or the drive train that sounds off. I’m still learning as I go about fixing what needs to be done.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/20/2025

My vehicle began to misfire after driving roughly 8 miles, check engine light would flash and ding. After shutting vehicle off for a while and restarting it, problem would be gone until driving approximately 8 miles. Brought to Chrysler service center, where they reproduced the problem and determined it is a camshaft or camshaft related issue. Vehicle is parked at that service center awaiting parts that are backordered until January. Vehicle cannot be driven in this condition. If the camshaft fails catastrophically, it could destroy the entire engine, putting myself and whoever else is in the vehicle in danger.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/16/2024

My vehicle has had recalls performed multiple times since 1st purchased in 2012. The issue was vehicle stalling. At 1st Chrysler / Dodge addressed it as issues upon start up where the vehicle sounded as though it was skipping when hitting the ignition button. They attempted to remedy this with multiple fuel pump relay recalls. They attempted to do internal which did not work. They then went external which also did not work. Nothing was ever formerly recognized as a suitable resolution, so any of us dealing with this were just forgotten. Well I still have this vehicle and it has gotten worse to the point the vehicle will randomly stall while in motion as it did the other day and on multiple other occasions. Under braking conditions the vehicle stalls where everything on the dash appears normal electronically, there is just no power and the steering locks up. I have addressed this multiple times with Dodge customer service as well as my local dealership. The dealership does not want to attempt any repairs because they want to be paid and the manufacturer is not entertaining it. I am aware the vehicle is out of warranty but I am not paying for something the manufacturer has known about since first purchased. There has been no further actions by the manufacturer to address this. They have moved on to newer existing Durango models.

My car started leaking oil I took it to a local mechanic and I was told that the oil filter housing needs to be replaced. He said that he sees that problem with thos vehicles he even sain that he is surprised that it has been recalled because apparently it breaks easily and it needs to be changed to a metal. Again he mentioned how he sees this problem often with this specific car.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/02/2024

I noticed this morning when approaching the car that there was an oil spot under the car. I checked the oil and it is two courts low. There is oil puddled on the frame rails under the coolant reservoir. When I took the coolant cap off, there's nothing but oil in the tank. We have yet to have the car towed and inspected by a certified mechanic. The car drove normal and was within normal operating range when parked. Car has been serviced by a local certified shop at all intervals.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/16/2024

The engine in my vehicle stalls without warning while driving, which poses a significant safety risk, particularly on busy roadways where it could lead to accidents, endangering both myself and other drivers. The issue has been reproduced and confirmed in the past by a certified Dodge dealership auto shop, and the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. However, the vehicle or its components have not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Before the engine stalls, the electronic throttle control lamp flashes, the vehicle gives a noticeable jerk, and then the engine shuts down. This problem occurs at any speed but has not happened when the vehicle is at a full stop.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/06/2024

While driving the engine began to vibrate violently and the check engine light turned on. Luckily I was close to the dealership because I live in a small town with one major road. I was able to quickly slow down without crashing or causing an accident and slowly drove to dealership. If I was at any significant speed I could have crashed injuring myself and my two small children.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

My 2013 Durango with 124,000 miles has a check engine light on, that indicates cylinder 4 miss fire. The airpark Dodge service department where I purchased the vehicle has done a diagnostic evaluation and determined that the left cylinder head needs replacing. That falls within the x56 engine left cylinder head extended warranty for some VIN # vehicles, but not mine. The estimated repair is over $5000. 00. I am told that the engine can cease up while driving, and that I should not be driving the vehicle. I think my vehicle should be included, especially since this x56 warranty extension has been out since 2014. How do I get this x56 warranty on my vehicle? and how do I get reimbursed for the cost of the repair?.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Dodge Durango

While driving paved road noticed a cloud of smoke behind the vehicle. Immediately pulled to the side of the road and shut vehicle off. After checking under the vehicle found coolant leaking from the engine compartment, there was no coolant in the expansion tank either. Any driving would have resulted in engine destruction. Called a tow truck. After waiting on the side of the road for 5 hours for tow truck, vehicle was taken to the nearest dealer on the flatbed. At the dealer, technician stated, it is a frequent occurrence on this brand of the vehicle, and they are very familiar with repairing it. Dealership repair, exposed burst/hole, from inside out, in the coolant hose. Glad it did not happen in the winter; I might not be typing this message.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/17/2024

Chrysler has had a known issue with the ignition module nodes on its Dodge vehicles since 2013. However, they have failed to issue a recall on the 2011 and higher Dodge vehicles. My ignition module node is going out in my vehicle and the dealership will not recognize this as any kind of recall and is making me pay for the reprogramming and for the keys to be replaced in addition to a car rental. I am having to pay $800. This is a well-known and documented ongoing nationwide safety issue. Dodge employees have received the attached bulletin making them aware of this known issue but has failed to initiate a recall. According to their attached safety recall report for previous Dodge years, the ignition node (win) module on your vehicle may have unintentional movement of the frequency operated button ignition key (fobik) from the “on” to the “accessory” position while driving. This could cause unintended engine shut off and increase the risk of a crash.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/20/2024

Bought a used 17 Dodge Durango from Audi hunt valley of autonation July of 2024 nothing but any problem misfires camshaft issue camshaft has been replaced twice now in less than a year and now it needs a new transmission. I purchased an extended warranty for engine and transmission. Now they are not covering it I spoke to somebody through corporate office. Put a complaint in. I also contacted Dodge. There’s also a claim with them as well. Nobody has reached out for the corporate office so I bought a vehicle that didn’t even last a year that needs a transmission. That’s not a reliable vehicle safety concern I have all documentation from repair shops that work has been done. I’ve also have been in contact with an attorney about this so something needs to be done ASAP before I file a lawsuit. I want a different vehicle or my money back.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

Vehicle has a long crank time. Vehicle will not start after approximately 10 seconds. The vehicle will start on the second try. There is a strong smell of fuel after that. I have taken the vehicle in multiple times with the dealership saying nothing is wrong or they can’t duplicate the problem. I have showed the dealership videos of it happening and feel that they are not taking it seriously. The problem is getting worse and I fear that one day either I will be stranded or the vehicle will shut off while I’m am driving it.

This SUV has had 2 recalls for the same fuel system relay problem, and now after approximately 2or3 yrs ago, and now it's doing the same exact thing again, you'll be driving down the road and it will just shut off and a red lighting built will show up, lucky we had a safe place to pull off the road and get stopped, but this is a very dangerous situation for my wife and kids to be in.
