Failure Date: 08/21/2011

I went out on Sunday morning 8/21/2011 after having had my 2004 Dodge Durango 5. 7l hemi ,that I had parked since Friday. My husband turned the key and there was a click. Tried again and more clicks. Third try was a loud series of clanking and clicking. Had the vehicle hauled to the Dodge dealership in harrison ar. They informed me the motor had blown a rod. Repair would be $5000. 00. I had been by the dealership a month before and inquired about sudden engine dying while driving. My vehicle hass done this seversl times while at any speed with steering loss. Very scary. I have also fulfilled the earlier recall of having the rewiring of all the vehicle. Was very displeased with the service and times it malfunctioned after having the recall serviced. Please inform the proper personel and inform me of further action to take.

5 Engine problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/23/2011

2004 Dodge Durango limited with 91,855 miles. No prior problems whatsoever. Driving down road, malfunction indicator light came on and started flashing, 30 seconds later the vehicle lost all power and would not restart. It had to be towed to service station, where diagnosis was made. There was a hole in the engine block. This should not have happened to a car of this age with this mileage. They advised the powertrain warranty expired at 70,000 miles. However, many have complained about this same issue and it creates a potentially catastrophic life safety issue. Just filed my complaint with Chrysler today and hope that they do the right thing - unless they dont care if I ever purchase another product from them again!.

6 Engine problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/03/2011

I have a 2004 Dodge Durango slt with the hemi 5. 7 l. It has 127,000 miles on it. We've taking great care of it! the last time that it was drove it was a great ride, then with out warning went started it up there was loud bang!!! and it started shaking. Had someone look at it and it threw a rod!! I had no warning of this. Yes I've had smll problems with it over the years put a new thermostat in it cause of over heating new brakes it died out on me a few times with no reason so I thought it was bad gas so I started put the higher grade in it and that seemed to stop that. But this no warning!!! I have been reading and there is so many complaints on the same year make and model. Dodge needs to do somthing before someone gets hurt ot killed!! I was lucky I hadnt even left my driveway when it happened!! now I am going to be out thousnads of dollars that I dont have to either get this fixed or a new car. I cant afford that I am still paying on this. Until this happened I didnt know all the recalls that has been on this vehicle. I haven't received any. Now I know why I dont have inside lights we unhooked them cause they wouldnt go off. Come on Dodge do somthing before someone get hurt in this vehicle. Take responsiblity & make a recall!! there is 156 postings on here with the same problems how many more before Dodge does something? I am going to post this website and let others know about it I found it on accident lastnight. Something needs to be done now!! 10 Engine problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/10/2010

I have owned my 2000 Durango since it was new, I have changed the oil regularly for the whole time, I have always done it myself. I recently brought the vehicle in for the "ticking" noise that I've been told since the vehicle was new, "there is no concern" when I changed the oil, it was always clean, no problems. Well, it seems the engine oil had not been traveling through the motor and apparently damaged internal parts to the tune of $2700. 00, when I looked it up online, I learned this has happened to nearly every 4. 7 v8 that Chrysler makes, my computer lit up with the exact same problems, everywhere. Why is it that Chrysler is not responsible for a motor defect that the consumer has no control over? all maintainance had been done on this one, and has been taken care of meticulously. I called Chrysler for assistance, but the response was that of deny, deny, deny and refer the customer to the original warranty, the end! I believe Chrysler should step up and be responsible for their incompetence! I for one would like my hard earned money back for this job, which took me 6 months to pay off to get my car back.

My 2005 Durango has been shutting completely off while I am driving it. This has been going on for approximately one year intermittently. 13 Engine problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/04/2010

While commuting this morning to work, I was approaching a stop light at approximately 35 mph, as I started to brake, I noticed my brakes were not working properly, at that point I realized my engine had shut off and I had lost my power brakes/power steering. As this has happened multiple times in the past with no warning - as it did this time, I knew I could put my engine into neutral and re-start my engine. Luckily I was not in any sort of serious traffic and had plenty of room to get my vehicle to the side of the road to avoid any accidents. I have attempted to address this issue with the past with Dodge and have had no success. This is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed.

14 Engine problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/27/2010

Engine intermittently shuts off. Sometimes not everyday and sometimes 10 times. Shuts off at various speeds, idling and in drive at a stop light, or going 40 miles per hour. It sometimes restarts right away, and sometimes it cranks and cranks, and about the 15th try it may restart. It cut out 6 times in the parking lot of a mall. The only thing I can think of is that I was parked in the sun on a hot day at the mall, and the engine quit after running for only 30 seconds.

15 Engine problem of the 2003 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/14/2010

Rocker arm comes off. Researching on the internet this is a common problem. How many people does it take to get killed due to rocker arm coming off and stopping in traffic? I do not understand why this problem continues with no action. I noticed one of the questions on this website ask if there were any injuries or deaths. I guess a number of these must happen before anything is done.

Driving along on the way to see my father in the hospital and the check gauge light came on and the oil pressure went to 0 and then back up and then back to 0, and then engine seized up. Now will have to replace the engine, Chrysler should pony up for all these vehicles when they know there is a problem. I will definitely be keeping receipts for this just in case.

26 Engine problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/10/2008

99 Dodge Durango slt 5. 2 318 motor blew. Only had 105,000 miles on it changed oil and did upkeep right on schedule. This pile crap has been nothing but a lemon since we bought it. First it started shutting off while driving, had to fight tooth and nail to get Dodge to replace pcm, I did the investigation to figure out the problem because they did not want to pay for it and tried really hard to stretch this out to where I would not have warranty anymore. They wanted to send us off with a black box after they supposedly fixed problem but didn't. Now my motor blew! we have taken motor out and it looks all burned up. . . What a complete piece of crap. . So angry that Dodge refuses to step up on these obvious defects that are their fault not the poor consumer who paid way to much for this lemon of a vehicle. Also have to replace all ball joints, because the 99 should of been included in the recall!!!! thanks for nothing Dodge!!! I will never buy american again, this was my first time of straying from nissans and toyotas,,,never again.

30 Engine problem of the 2002 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/02/2008

The valves on this engine burned out at 59,000 miles. The cause was revealed to be a defective camshaft which was rough and pitted and had burned the valves. This was a manufacturer's defect and not poor maintenance; I have had the oil changed with synthetic oil every 3,000 miles and otherwise taken excellent care of this vehicle. The SUV required a new camshaft and complete valve job, costing approximately $2200 including parts and labor.

31 Engine problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/09/2007

I purchased my Dodge Durango limited new in 2005. I had no problems until approx. 1 year in to ownership. When the vehicle is placed in reverse after sitting overnight or while at work it has a several second hesitation. After taking it to the dealership (3) times they finally found a TSB to replace the transmission filter which they say they did. The problem seemed to get a little better. Now though (1500 miles later) my Durango is hesitating in reverse and forward. The dealership can't replicate the problem ( never have ) and don't know what to do now. I have also now had (2) instances of the engine shutting off at low speeds. The dealership also can not replicate this and don't know what to do. My Durango has spent almost 2 weeks total in the shop with these issues. I guess I will need to put a sign on my rear windshield that reads "stay back vehicle engine dies".

32 Engine problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/30/2007

2005 Durango engine dies when changing from reverse to drive after backing out of parking space. Also dies when accelerating from a slow roll such as an uncontrolled intersection. I have been involved in 5 near miss incidents in the last 18 months. Dealer has done a tune-up and test drive and has told me there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. Are people going to have to die before something is done about this?.
