2 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2003 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/06/2020

I purchased my vehicle 10/2019. Since then I have taken to repair shop for vehicle stalls when coming to a stop or at a stop, let along when slowing for a stop. Then rpm's drop! I have almost been rear ended multiple times due to this, with my children and grandchildren in car!!! the shop I've taken to can not find out why this is happening. Granted we tried replacing hoses, valve gaskets tune up. I feel there should be a recall to find and fix this before a serious injury happens. This has also happened as I was driving and I had to put in neutral to restart. The streets and roads I have to travel are usually always busy. Also the vehicle when stopping the front driver and passenger seats slide back and forth, they are not what I would call safe. . . For I believe the rules ares to check mirrors, adjust seating, wear seat belts to ensure that you will be driving safely. I could be wrong but I'm pretty positive. Needs fixing now!! the other issue is the hoses. . . They seem to fall off and I take into shop just to hear its the hose again. Not counting numerous other issues like windows not rolling down some days, rear heater doesn't work unless the front heater is off. I've always been a Dodge fan but I think with all these issues with this vehicle I'll be checking out out Dodge and moving to someone that actually doesn't have over 6 recalls on the vehicles and multiple other complaints like Dodge has had and that I've just read.

4 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/03/2017

On July 3 I was driving our vehicle on a country road when the battery light came on shortly after pulling out of the driveway. We had been on vacation and figured the car had sat for 10 days without being driven and just needed a charge. The light indicator came and went before the car started doing weird things: hazard lights, windshield wipers, seatbelt light, etc. The car quickly lost power and everything locked up leaving us stranded on the side of a gravel road. We couldn't even release the keys from the ignition. There was a burning smell and the car had to be towed. The alternator went out, in turn burning up the ems system. This part is on national back order. We have been without a car for over two weeks now. The recall for the alternator was for a smaller amp. Ours is a 220amp. They are telling us production of the part may take up to 10-12 more days.

5 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/05/2017

I was driving in the city on a very busy street when the car made a weird siren noise; then my seatbelt lights went off, my park assist started flashing, my traction control other lights were flashing, the radio flashed off and on, then went out. Then my wipers went on, and then I lost power steering, brakes were not working, and the car slowly died. My hazards didn't even work, so I almost caused an accident. My car died in the middle of a very busy street and I had no hazards to warn anyone! a very scary situation to have especially with your 12-year-old daughter in the car.

7 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/29/2016

The car stalls alot whenever you're at a light or going slow speeds. Will turn off and needs to be turned on. The ignition locks and the key wont turn when trying to turn the car on. The airbag light is constantly blinking when the driver seat belt is not on. When the seatbelt is on, the airbag light is permanently on. This morning the front passenger tire area make a loud clunk when I turned left. Shortly after as I was going about 35 mph it felt as if I had a flat tire so I pulled over. Turns out the entire ball joint had broken and the front passenger tire had fallen to the side.

8 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/03/2015

2004 Durango 5. 7 every time we have a hard rain the motor stalls or runs extremely rough and we have to pull to the side of the road. I travel for work, and received a call from my wife that the Durango would no crank over but was not caused by battery issue as it had just been replaced. Had several people look at it and they said motor was locked up (had rained the night before). Let it sit until I got home and it started up with a little kick back against starter. Let it warm up and went and had the battery and starter checked, both were within specification for voltage and amp draw. Drove on county hwy with 45 mile speed limit approx. Three miles to the bank. Leaving the bank made a right turn onto main street and the motor went thump, clunk, bang and died. Coasted off road and looked under vehicle thinking we had thrown a belt or hit something. Saw oil dripping from passenger side of motor and found a hole in the oil pan with part of the connecting rod sticking through it. I used to be a mechanic so I know what I was looking at. After doing research I have found that the rain gutter channels water onto the top of the motor where the plastic intake manifold has cracked allowing water into the motor, this water can become trapped in the intake manifold and be pulled into the motor while it is running and you are making a turn. Talked to my local Dodge dealer, they said they had never heard of such a problem but kindly told me $8000 to replace my motor. Talked to the parts department and they did not have any information on an updated rain gutter, even though there appears to be a service bulletin on this problem. The number of complaints I have seen says to me that there should have been a recall on this problem as every thing I have read says it is quite common.

9 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/03/2015

I was entering interstate 25 north from denver colorado's 19th street when I heard a bang and my 04 Durango began to shake violently. I believed it was a tire that popped even though I have new ones and so I continued down the ramp to a safe place where I pulled over and stopped. That's when I noticed the vehicle was still shaking and I then believed it to be a serpentine belt until I turned the vehicle off. I openned the hood and found the belt intact. I then looked under the vehicle and could see engine oil dripping off the back of the engine block & onto the ground from some unknown location of the motor. I attempted to pull the dipstick out of the engine but was unable to because it was stuck until I tried cranking the motor once again which allowed me to then pull the dipstick out, but I was never able to get it back in. I had the vehicle towed to my house and then eventually to a dealership after the motor was attempted to be started again. Flame shot out from underneath the hood along with smoke and a lot of white smoke from the tailpipe. The engine is blown it would have to be replaced and I had 12 payments left for about $5000. I was in a negative equity situation with this vehicle now & I didn't have warranties or any ability to get help from Chrysler or Dodge. There have been almost a thousand other people to register complaints for the same problem. The engine hydrolocked because water leaks through the cowling between the windshield and the hood and drains all over the entire engine. It happens at approximately a hundred twenty thousand miles, allowing water to get inside the motor eventually. I took care of this vehicle better than any other vehicle I'd ever owned.

11 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/24/2013

First thing is when it rain the SUV stall and cuts off. The top part of the roof on the inside gets wet also my seatbelts. Then the second thing is the engine which threw a rod at 149000 miles. The only one that work on this vehicle was the Dodge dealership. And I just had my oil change a month before with there 23 point inspection. Someone needs to look into this water problem with this vehicle thats why these models are blowing engines at low miles. I look this problem up iam not the only one having these problems with this vehicle. This needs immediate attention before someone gets hurt or killed. Thanks for listening.

13 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/15/2012

Car was cold, from sitting over night. Went to start, and heard a bunch of clanging. I turned truck off immediately. Went to crank engine over, and nothing. No noise, accept chimes from interior, and a slight noise from starter. I have worked for years around vehicles and repairs, and it sounded like something was stuck. I put gear shifter in nuetral, disconnected serpentine belt, and tried to manually turn engine at crankshaft. I could not get it to budge. When I looked up online, I was surprised to see how many people with this motor had it sieze, I called Chrysler, and was told there was nothing they could do for me, being as it was out of warranty, and their was no recall. I don't understand how the government doesn't hold the car manufacturers to stricter standards ,for issues like this. I'm not any kind of a computer guru, and I've found hundreds of people with similar issue, online. Would really be nice, to see Chrysler have to make good for these faulty motors. Thanks doug.

14 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/21/2011

Upon starting the vehicle in the am after daily use,a loud noise as if the fan belt broke or stones throwing around was heard and oil started flowing from motor. Pieces of cast metal found under the vehicle in the midst of the oil. . . . Rod blew through!!! only 100k miles and oil was filled, maintenance always completed. We are orig owners. This was a $35k v8 engine vehicle that has been maintained. This should not have happened and as seen on the emonds site as will as Dodge, this is a common problem with this vehicle and no recourse for the owner who has done what he or she was to do as far as upkeep on their vehicle??? again this is not a cheap vehicle and we are a family of 5 with 1 income. How and why should we have to fix this problem? we purchase what we thought was a good quality vehicle from a big 3 company!!.

19 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/04/2004

1999 Dodge Durango. Multiple problems with vehicle. 6,000 miles freeze plug; 48,691 tie rod end outer, serpentine belt; 63,851 transmission speed sensor; 66,002 miles ball joints front upper; 68,175 miles ball joints lower. Consumer paid out-of-pocket for each incident. I had extended insurance that was paid for when truck was bought, but was not given any information about it. Never recieved any info from fedelity insurance about extended insurance. During investigation, by myself, to report incidents to daimler Chrysler discovered on bill of sale that extended insurance had been paid for. Contacted daimler Chrysler and fidelity insurance. Daimler Chrysler reimbursed for parts of tie rods & upper ball joints; they refused to pay for anything else and claimed it was due to consumer's failure to maintain vehicle. Fidelity insurance would only refund up to a year from initial report of 08/04/04. Refused to reimburse for anything before. Submitted all documentation to fidelity, but have yet to recieve any reimbursement. Final incident on 09/04/04 has not yet been addressed by daimler Chrysler nor fidelity insurance. Truck has had multiple incidents of needing service -- all of which should not have to be replaced under 68,000 miles. Dodge refuses to take responsabilty of defective parts and vehicle. I have read multiple incident on-line of other Durango owners and mine is minor compaired to some. Everyone has had to replace ball joint, but multiple people have had to replace transmittions a number of time. I am stuck with a defective vehicle that if not gotten rid of will cost me thousands of dollars. My truck is paid off as of 10/2004, extended insurance is up at 72,000 miles. I am unable to afford buying another car that is appropriate to my family situation.

21 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/06/2002

Intially I took my truck in for servicing on 04/02/02, because the vehicle would not start. I was told that I needed a new battery and my serpentine belt needed to be replaced. The work was completed and two days later, my truck completely shut down. After taking the engine apart team Dodge has told me that I need a new engine from oil sludge.

22 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1998 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/01/2002

We have had to replace our serpentine belt, and tensioner at considerable cost. This is not a standard wear item, and there are thousands of people who are replacing these belts and tensioners on a regular basis. The design and parts of this serpentine belt and tensioner system are defective.

23 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1998 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/23/2001

I took my 1998 Dodge Durango into allen mello Dodge 6/21/01 for a whistling noise coming from the front end. They decided to replace the serp. Entinebelt. When I picked up the car the noise was louder than when I dropped it off. They suggested that I bring it back 7/10/01 when I had an appointed to have the cat. Converter replaced. June 23, 2001 I took a day trip and on the way home the car broke down. I had to have the car towed to the nearest dealer where they advised me that the universal joint broke causing the drive shaft, transfer case, shift rod, rod gear, pivot gear and some other parts to be destroyed. I asked the mechanic in tilton nh is the universal joint makes a whistling noise and he said that could have been a sign. I have called Chrysler and allen mello Dodge in nashua nh and they have apologized for the problem, but have both said there was nothing they could do. I feel that after only 53,000 miles on the car this type of damage should not be experienced. It is my understanding that the unit where the universal joint is, cannot be greased because it is a sealed unit. I believe this is a flaw in the design of the vehicle. If I could have had this maintained this problem may not have happened. I asked Chrysler what could have caused this and they suggested hard driving. My wife is the primary driver of this vehicle and we have two very small childern, the car does not have a tow package, and other than the winter, the car has not been in four wheel drive. Please review this problem and please contact me if you need any other information. I appreciate your time.

24 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1998 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/11/1998

1. Stops or misses gears on upshift when accelerating. This occurs frequently, and is most apparent when towing/merging into faster traffic, or traveling up an incline. This slip causes the engine to rev into the very high rpms. The last time this occurred, a belt broke and caused the loss of steering in the truck. 2. Shift indicator on the dash does not display indicator when in d drive position. The indicator is lost between neutral and drive positions. 3. Noticeable vibration in the gas pedal when driving in certain speed ranges. It is most noticeable when accelerating between 30 to 40 and 60 to 70. 4. Vibration noise can be heard and can be felt in the gas pedal. This is a recent development ( since Nov, 1998 ).
