1 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2014 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/16/2019

I was driving on the freeway during a very bad rainstorm at night on January 16th, 2019. I was traveling around 50 mph on the freeway, in the number three lane, when my car shut off, where I lost complete power to my engine. My speedometer dropped from 50 to 30 mph immediately, leaving me with no power, to barely make it to the emergency lane. No power, no brake, no steering-nothing. My horn was also honking, my headlights flashing, windshield wipers attempting to move but unable to, and speakers making weird noises. And to make things even more scary, my 9 year old son was in the car with me. This is an issue that needs to be investigated, and possibly issue a recall. I feel that I am extremely lucky that my son and myself were not severely injured or even killed, with my car shutting off like that without warning. If I had not been able to cruise to the emergency lane, no doubt we would have been struck at a standstill by oncoming traffic, averaging 50-60 mph. I am extremely concerned, and this is a huge safety issue. I brought the car into the Dodge dealership, where I was told that it was from the rain and it shorted out my electrical. That's it. That's it? there should be a better explanation, and action taken to prevent something like this from ever happening. That car shutting off without warning from 50 mph to 0 mph on a freeway could have cost my son and I our lives. I am expecting to hear back from Dodge regarding this very dangerous problem that occurred, and I have also read about similar complaints with the Durango, so I know this is not a fluke. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

2 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2013 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/24/2017

On 12/24/2017 I started my Durango to let it warm up before leaving my house, remote start was used. It was making a funny noise so I turned it off and then turned it back on. At this time I saw smoke was coming from the engine. Upon inspection I noticed smoke from the alternator and had to put water on it. I took my Durango on 12/26/2017 to dwayne lane's Chrysler and Jeep at 10515 evergreen way, everett, wa 98204. They said this is related to recall t36 and there was no known fix. I understand if the alternator was still fine they could do nothing. However since it was clearly faulty after running their tests they said I would have to pay out of pocket nearly $1200 dollars and then get reimbursed after 90 days. I called Dodge customer service and worked with someone to get approval for the dealership to get paid. I was told by the dealership they were unable to get this approved due to multiple reasons (managers on vacation/system not setup to do so). At this point I was looking at either not having a vehicle or making the $1200 payment. I checked at another dealership and they said they have dealt with this exact issue, and could get it covered. My calls to Dodge must have worked because the first dealership got approval to replace with another alternator that mind you might have the same issues. I picked up my Durango 12/27 and after driving for 15 minutes the battery light came on. I drove it to the new dealership to have them look at it and they said yes some batteries have died due to the bad alternators. They said Dodge is not covering this so $200 dollars out of pocket. After driving my Durango it now has the battery light on again. Now they are saying it is the pcm module that has gone out and this may not be covered as well. Currently it is 12/29 and I still do not have my Durango.

4 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2014 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/05/2017

Hello, I just purchased a 2014 Dodge Durango limited awd w/approximately 30,000 miles. I have had the vehicle for about 3 weeks and on September 4/5th notice huge puddles of oil in our driveway. My wife attempted to drive it that morning, but heard weird noises "sputtering noises" in her own words. Once she told me of the issue, several hours later I started the Durango and heard similar noises. Looking under the vehicle I notice oil on the under carriage of the car stretching maybe 5 feet in length. I called Chrysler roadside assistance and notified them of the issue. They sent over a tow and once the dealership diagnosed the problem, they said it was an oil cooler leak. Upon reading several forums this seems to be a common issue.

5 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2013 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/25/2015

I am the first and only owner of a Dodge Durango 2013: on Dec 25th I was left stranded with my car, windows open and unable to move it anywhere. It literally died and had to leave it along the roadside since I was with my 4 small children. I was driving, and the car started with a weird noise, then smoke started coming out, the all the ligths on the dashboard started to flash, the temperature was always informed as normal, then the windshield wippers started to work on its own and then the car literally died. There was no possibility of ignition nor nothing. The car had to be towed away by a special truck since it had to pick up the car and place it on the truck, since there was no possibility to have ignition. The most strange thing is that on December 12, the car was out of the doge workshop for the 40,000 km revision with no problem. So far I have been informed that the central computer of the car died, the battery was burned and the alternator died. . . . . . . . . . . . All this information is provided by the garage where my car is at. Is this a problem that I have to pay for or is it a problem that the company will pay for everything? please advice me on how to proceed.

6 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/29/2014

My son was driving on a road in FL at 45 mph when the engine just cut-off. He managed to get it to the side of the road. He waited about 15 minutes and it started up so he drove on. The next day he was returning from class and he heard an unusual noise from the engine. He managed to get it into a parking spot and then he saw smoke coming out from under the hood. His car engine was on fire. He tried to get it out with a fire extinguisher, but in the end the fire department had to put it out. Total loss.

11 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/31/2012

Main bearing spun and lifter stuck on engine. No warning sign with low oil light, no funny noises, the car just died on me after stopping at the bank and starting to pull away. With such a common problem why isn't Dodge stepping up to help with these bad engines? it's a shame.

12 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/30/2010

On Thursday December 30, 2010 I went to start my vehicle and there was a ticking noise coming from the engine. Got it to my mechanics and as we were putting it on the lift there was a big bang and then the ticking became more of a hammering noise. We removed the motor on Thursday January 6, 2011 to find that the #7 cylinder connecting rod had broke and gone through the side of the engine block. Through some user forums on the internet I found that there have been multiple instances of this happening usually between 90 - 100,000 miles. My vehicle had approximately 98,000 miles on it. Ordered a new motor on Friday January 7,2011. I am just glad that this did not happen while I was driving down the interstate at 65 mph during my normal daily routine.

13 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2003 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/21/2009

I have to stop far away from a vehicle fear of running in the back of their vehicle. It doesn't seem to want to stop sometime, this has been happening for awhile now alot recently. It cuts off on me if I get in the highway so embarrassing and when that happens I only can take off slow. Which causes me to exit the highway and not get back on. I had bought a car vacuum and it stated smoking on me, I was using the socket in the arm rest. I have alot of problems when I use the a/c or heat it cuts off on me and it stalls to take off,it's scary for me and my kids. It rams by it's self and it acts as if it's gone cut off and most of the time it do. It make this putting sounds when it's going to cut off or even when it stops on me. The dealer replace the Cadillac converter and my oxygen sensors. I also got a tune up and two of the fuel injectors replace new parts, that I paid for myself. It feels like my front suspension is messed up I had my brakes checked and they are not bad, but you can feel it when you press on the brakes something is not right.

14 Engine Funny Noise problem of the 2002 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/28/2008

We bought our 2002 Dodge Durango in January of 2008. We have gotten regular oil changes, and use on synthetic oil. We never had any issues with it, until Sunday September 28, 2008. Everything was fine no weird noises, feelings of the truck shaking, or jumping then when I stopped at a stoplight all the oil pressure dropped. The truck kept running as normal though. As soon as I accelerated the oil pressure started climbing again, and I thought it was just a fluke. As soon as I pulled into my driveway however the check gauges light came on again, and all the oil pressure dropped. From everything we have read about this problem, the fix is very costly up to 4000. 00 dollars. We have not gotten it fixed as of yet, because we do not have the money for a new engine!!!.
