40 Engine Knocking Noise problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/09/2011

I recently purchased a 2004 Dodge Durango 5. 7 v8 limited. 6months ago to be exact. I went on vacation for a week and parked the truck in my family's yard. Coming home from vacation I was informed the truck was started up and family members heard a loud knocking noise. When I arrived to pick up the vehicle I was amazed by the knocking noise and it actually gets louder if you step on the gas. Long story short I now need a new engine . Car has 119,000 miles on it and ran beautifully till this incident. I am now out of a truck and still making payments and I am told Dodge is aware of the problem, but offers no solutions. This is how America's car makers treat their consumers. I along with others feel this is a blackeye to the amreican consmer from Dodge. New or used engines start at $3000 and you still have no promises that you wont have the same problem. I cant understand this engine problem because the car is well maintained.

44 Engine Knocking Noise problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/20/2005

Our 2001 Dodge Durango made a strange knocking noise in the engine and suddenly lost oil pressure. The engine then seized up and we are now told we need a new engine in the vehicle. We were told by the dealership that the cause was excessive sludge in the engine. We have done regular oil changes and routine maintenance on the vehicle. The Durango has only 80,00 miles on it. We have a 1993 Chevrolet truck which has 183,000 miles on it . We have also done routine maintenance and regular oil changes on it and it is still running well. We also have a 1993 Jeep wrangler which has 170,000 miles on it. It is also running well. We are suspect that there must be a major flaw in the design of the Dodge Durango engine as we have since heard of similar stories from many other Dodge Durango owners.

45 Engine Knocking Noise problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/30/2004

Driving my 2000 Dodge Durango 4x4 down the highway when oil pressure went to 0psi. By the time I managed to get over 4 lanes of traffic a knocking noise had begun. Had it towed to certified mechanic that I trust, have had several problems with dealing with the dealership, and he told me that I had a spun main bearing due to sludge buildup. The engine has 84000 miles and has been serviced by me every 3000 to 4000 miles mostly highway driven. I was told that it would need a new engine with a minimal cost of $3500 for a salvage motor. I called the dealership and was told that since it was out of warranty that there wasn't anything they would do to help me exept they offered to put a new motor in for me. I have read hundreds of similar instances of this occuring and would like for daimler Chrysler to be held somewhat responsible.

48 Engine Knocking Noise problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/20/2001

There was no warning, oil pressure light just came on and we lost pressure. Then there was a knocking noise under the hood. We had it towed to herb gordon Dodge, which said the engine was a total loss. I had to drive it homeand the engine light came on. I called fitzgerald to see if I was covered under warranty. They said bring it in, so I had it towed to the dealer. They said the warrranty wouldn't cover it because I could not produce 15 maintenance receipts. I had a full service engine flush at 32,727 miles. They did not care, but said they could give me a new engine at $6000 or a patchup at $4200. The service manager also offered to put me in contact with a company that will finance engines.
