The oil filter adapter housing is leaking oil. I was made aware that it is a problem on all Dodge Durango models. The dealership is charging over $1k for the repair. This is a manufacturing defect which the company should cover.

I had significant oil leaks in my driveway for the last few months. I noticed my check engine light was on at 105,000 miles. I took it to a mechanic to get serviced. They replaced transmission fluid (purchased at Dodge dealership) and serviced any other areas. I received the vehicle back and noticed it was still leaking a great amount. I took it back to the mechanic thinking the issue was not solved. The mechanic then advised me that there is an oil leak next to the oil cooler and when parked at an incline, it begins to leak profusely. He said this is very common with Dodge Durango's and reached out to the dealership to inquire about recalls. They indicated there is no current recall. This is very disappointing. I have seldom driven the car since the pandemic and have upkeep the maintenance on the vehicle. I am the second owner and purchased the vehicle in 2016.
I am writing this complaint as my 2014 Dodge Durango limited had an oil leak. Oil ends up all over your garage, road, driveway in the size of a softball on the group after the car has been turned off. After taking to local mechanic, I was informed that the "cooling assembly or a sensor was leaking". It turns out my car the entire cooling assembly was bad. Mechanic informed me that 3 other chysler/Dodge products were in his shop over the past week with the same issue. Also, when he received the part from the local Dodge dealer, they originally had 5 in stock that week and I got the last one. So, this appears to be a flaw in the manufactured part that leaks oil and could potentially cause a fire, illness, etc. Part and labor cost me $650. 00. My 2014 Durango has 65,000 miles at time of posting.
Oil filter adaptor housing recall - when I took this to my local mechanic he states this has been on back order for 6 months. Per the internet this affect models from 2011 to 2019. This is causing an oil leak. This can cause the whole engine to seize and is causing oil to leak into the exhaust.

Developed a leak in the oil filter housing, which leaks down through the engine compartment and also gets on the exhaust system. This is a very common issue with the pentastar 3. 6l engine on all Chrysler produced vehicles. They have made a few revisions to this part, but have never issued a recall leaving many vehicles with this faulty and potentially dangerous part.
Part # 68105583af was leaking engine oil. The oil was collecting between the heads. Dealer replace the part but I haven't been able to get imformation from Dodge if the part has been redesigned oil collecting between the heads could cause a fire the oil leaks when the engine is running.
Takara recall I put oil on the engine constantly as I dont know wheres is going through. No smoke or leak.

Vehicle check engine light came on, went to have vehicle diagnosis completed by shop and it was found that housing oil filter is damaged which lead to oil leak it was found that Chrysler engine design of housing oil filters for 3. 6l engines have been poorly made an it is a common issue service bullentin sb-10058301-5939 verifies this issue.
While driving 2014 Durango (w/ 26313 miles) on highway, the "check engine light" came on, and the car slow down to 30 mph and it would not accelerate more than 30 mph. I pulled over and inspect the car and found oil dripping from the engine and the entire bottom of the car was soaked with oil which can be a fire hazard. Upon doing a brief research online I found many people who owns a 2014 Dodge/ Chrysler with a pentastar engine reported that the cracked "plastic engine oil filter housing" causing the leak. I took my car to the dealer and they refused to fix my car under warranty and blamed me for "over torquing" the oil filter.
The front main crank seal began to leak and eject oil all over the front of the engine compartment. Luckily discovered before damage to the engine.

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Dodge Durango. While checking the vehicle, the contact noticed an oil leak on the engine. The vehicle was taken multiple times to jack powell Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (located at 1625 auto park way, escondido, CA 92029, (760) 745-2880). The dealer drove the vehicle a couple of miles and repaired the engine by filling it with silicone. The second time the dealer serviced the vehicle for a week and repaired the valve gasket with silicone. The last time the vehicle was taken to the dealer was on may 25, 2019, but no failure was found. The contact still experienced the failure after multiple repair attempts. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 33,386.

The contact owns a 2017 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that there was oil leaking from the bottom of the vehicle. The dealer diagnosed that the rear main seal was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who determined that the oil pan was leaking. The oil pan was replaced; however, the remedy failed to correct the failure. As a result, the transmission pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 300.

Noticed oil leak under vehicle. Upon inspection, discovered it was the oil filter housing. Took to dealer who quoted $474. 70 for repair. Vehicle had 47,xxx miles and should have been covered under the powertrain warranty. Chrysler customer care could not state why it wasn't covered other than it was outside the 3yr/36,000 mile bumper to bumper. Mechanic did not specify that part was damaged from oil changes. Just stated cracks were found in the oil filter housing. Service bulletin sb-10058301-5939 dated August 7, 2015 shows there is a known issue. Additional sb-10080203-2280 dated June 15, 2016 proves that fca knows there are numerous issues and want engineers to be called. It is common to all 2014 3. 6l pentastar oil filter housings after the apparent design change from metal to plastic. Fca agreed to recoup 50% of the cost after they couldn't explain why it wasn't covered under the powertrain warranty. It's a well known issue across the numerous forums out there. Oil draining down back of motor over transmission bellhousing could be hazardous as a fire could be started due to proximity to exhaust system.
Several months ago my Dodge Durango began leaking fluid. After some taking my front end apart I have determined it to be the a/c condenser-transmission cooler assembly. During my research for diagnosing this problem, I discovered dozens of youtube videos of other people suffering the same exact leak, in the same exact place on the same exact make and model of a/c condenser/transmission oil cooler unit. It is obvious to me there is a design flaw with this part.
We were very happy with our Durango until a few days ago. My husband and kids loaded up a few days before christmas to go drive up the mountain, they made just as far as the neighbors driveway when they heard a loud bang and were able to pull in to the driveway of a neighbor. The engine completly seized, all oil leaked out. The car has always been well maintained. No warning at all! a few days earlier I had drove it to town in the rain and it was idling rough, but the next day seemed fine. Now the engine is shot. We have been having heavy rain for days and looks like water was leaking in to the engine due to a faulty cowl or something, which caused the engine to fail. We had just put brand new tires on the vehicle and just received new tags for it! all this with absolutely no warning! we are just out a vehicle and 2 days before christmas! had we known this was an issue we would have gladly done everything we could to fix it, but we have only had the vehicle for a few years and had no idea rain could cause our engine to seize up! thankful it happened close to home and no accident, but very scary when something like this happens!.
Aug 21 @ 1030am. My fiancé, our daughter and I were about to leave our home. I went to the car and strapped our daughter into her car seat while my fiancé had bags at the front of our apartment building. Turned on the car it struggled to turn over, went clunk clunk clunk. I turned it off. Called my fiancé to come up to our parking spot to have a look. He couldn't see anything immediately. Called a tow but in the meantime a friend who knows a bit about cars came by, looked under the car and found pieces of the engine as well as leaking engine oil under the car. The discussion was that it had blown a rod and the engine was done. At this point in time I can't afford to get it worked on, so it is still sitting in the same place. The description is so similar to other reports of a rod going through the engine block. Luckily we weren't on the road driving when it happened and everyone is safe. For a problem like this that is obviously recurring due to the engines being defective how can Dodge not still be responsible.
After a rainstorm, I went to start the vehicle. I heard a big bang. Now motor raps and ticks loudly and leaks engine oil. Mechanic looked at it and said motor was blown.
I was driving and accelerated to pass a vehicle. As I slowed down there was a loud bang. I pulled off to the side, lifted the hood, and saw a slight wisp of smoke. I attempted to restart the vehicle without success. As it was being towed, I noticed oil leaking from the engine. In researching this issue, I've seen hundreds of complaints of the same thing happening. The vehicle has been well maintained as far as oil changes, etc.
Exited from freeway, car stated to shake. Took it to a local Dodge dealership in bridgton maine. They have informed me there is a hole in the engine block and cannot be repaired. Have checked the web for any similar issues. Found 100 of complaints for low mileage 2004 Dodge Durangos with the same issue. Apparently water enters the engine from the outside and rusts a hole in the iron block, thus leaking oil. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the vehicle rapidly and abnormally accelerated when the accelerator pedal was engaged. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that engine oil was leaking from the vehicle and the tie rod was fractured. In addition, smoke and a small fire erupted from under the hood. The contact was able to contain the fire. The vehicle was inspected by a local mechanic , who advised that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 109,000.
My husband was driving on the highway at 70 mph (out of town) when he heard a very loud "pop". The engine failed and he had to make his way over to the side of the road at a high rate of speed and very little control due to engine failure. He said the truck jerked so hard it actually felt like he hit something. When he made it over to the side of the road he got out of the vehicle and oil was leaking from the bottom of the vehicle. He had the truck towed to a garage. After the service techican inspected the vehicle he said it blew a rod through the engine. The vehicle costs me nearly $30,000. 00 and had 129,000 miles on it. After talking with several different mechanics I was told that these engines are know for this problem. A jasper replacement engine cost about $7000. 00!!!! I telephoned Dodge on a few different occasions and they refuse to help because my extended warranty I paid thousands of dollars for expired. I surely thought I was buying a quality vehicle but apparently I am wrong. I am sure glad I wasn't driving with my kids when this happened, one wrong move and the vehicle could have hit another car! thank god nobody got hurt. Now I am stuck trying to figure out what to do with this vehicle????? I certainly don't have $7000. 00 dollars and a used engine is very hard to find due to so many people looking for them! when I went into work the next day, my CO-worker who has the same exact vehicle with the exception of the color, informed me his engine blew too! come on Dodge-get a clue! accept responsibility for your hemi's having problems! I don't know how you stay in business!.
The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 60 mph, there was a loud bang heard from the outside of the vehicle. The contact maneuvered to the side of the road and noticed a substantial amount of oil leaking from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where they detected a failed connector rod. The technician stated that the engine would need to be replaced. The vehicle could not be repaired because the manufacturer discontinued the production of the specific model engine needed for the vehicle. The failure mileage was 78,600.
The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Durango. The contact stated the engine began rattling abnormally. The contact was able to determine that the engine was leaking oil. In addition, the contact also stated that there were shards of metal under the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who advised that there was a hole in the engine. The vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired for the failure. The failure and current mileages was 90,800.
I have a 2004 Dodge Durango slt hemi (5. 7 v8) with 71,000 miles. No events leading to failure as vehicle was regularly maintained and no warning via sounds/feel/or lights of any kind. The connecting rod broke thru the bottom of the engine block causing 2 substantial cracks and leakage of oil. Only option for repair is a new engine.
Driving on highway at 55mph. Loud bag then rapping sound. Pulled to side of road with engine still running, shut off, determine large puddle of oil under passenger side of car. Towed to garage. Oil leaked through cracked block due to broken connecting rod. All maintenance done per manufactures specs. Replacing engine.
Problems with engine and engine components oil gauge not working, ticking in moter oil leaking. Was told I need new moter. Also strange noises from steering colomn. Truck only has 79,000 miles I am requesting Chrysler recall this truck and stand behind their company and fix what is wrong with these engines, ect.

While applying brakes vehicle continued to stall. As a result, the vehicle lost power. Dealer stated they were not able to duplicate the problem. The consumer came to a stop to let oncoming traffic pass. The consumer put foot on the accelerator and noticed the vehicle had stalled with no warning while the headlights where still on. On other occasions headlights would dim and then get brighter as the vehicle spit and sputtered for 15 seconds. The consumer had 4 CO-pilots installed and was not able to hold the recordings. The vehicles left front speaker was not working. The rear hatch light will not stay in because the retainer clips broke. The vehicle had an oil leak. The transmission is not shifting properly in the vehicle.

Our 2000 Durango with only 57k miles, had the "check guages" light come on. The engine temp went to hot, then to cold. After taking it into the dealer, I was told that the water heater needed to be replaced ($300), the soft plugs (freeze plugs?) were bad and needed to be be replaced ($1500) and there is an internal oil leak ($1,000). This is a 2000 model year, purchased in January of 2000 and only has 57,000 miles.
Engine kept overheating. Had two new engines put in the vehicle, and overheated a third time, and vehicle was back in the shop. First time mechanic said it was due to oil leaking. Second time dealer got a used engine that was cracked, and third time wanted to put another used engine .

2000 Dodge Durango. At about 69,000 miles the vehicle heater suddenly went cold and the vehicle overheated. I pulled over and checked under the hood. The vehicle lost all antifreeze. Towed it home. The next day found that a freeze plug had a hole in it. After repair, found that the freeze plug had corrosion and actually rusted through. Dealer said it was due to lack of maintenence. Impossible, freeze plugs are not maintained and coollant has a life of 100,000 miles. In addition, a freeze plug should be galvanized/aluminized to prevent corrosion. Vehicle has been repaired. However, because of this problem, I wonder if this is the reason that others are having vehicles blow up. I believe that the sludge is the result of the overheated oil and that is why the vehicles are blowing up. Not because of lack of oil changes. After this problem, I have found that my engine idles slightly rough. This seems like a good indicator of blown seals causing oil leakage and of overly heated oil creating sludge.
I have had several problems with my 98 Durango. I am the original owner, and the vehicle has 31,000 miles. The current problem, and the one for which I filed the complaint, deals with the electric windows not unctioning. The left rear window went out last year. Within the past two months, the passenger window went out, and the right rear has begun to operate inconsistently. As for repairs, a local Chrysler dealer said they believe the problem are the window regulators. As to cost, I am currently working with Chrysler corp. (national customer service center) as to what they will do to fix. My own investigation indicates that this is a common problem on this year Durango. Just today Chrysler has asked me to have the problem re-diagnosed at the local dealership (at my cost). They will then determine if and what they will do. However, the representative said he felt a total repair compensation for this problem will not happen and suggested I should have taken an extended warranty. I informed him of my research on this problem to little avail. He also said he was the final decision maker for this situation, and in case of my disagreement with his decision, I had no other recourse through Chrysler corp. I also have a worsening rear main seal oil leak. The preliminary repair estimate is over $1200. Again, because of the low mileage, I've asked Chrysler to assist in the repair cost. They said they would consider, but feel this problem is not their responsibility.
The vehicles intake pan gasket is defective and caused oil to leak from the engine during vehicle operation. The consumer is concerned that leaking oil will result in engine seizure.
The consumer had to replace both left and right ball joints and tie rods due to premature wear. A faulty intake gasket caused an oil leak. The consumer notified the manufacturer and requested reimbursement. The consumer was denied reimbursement.
My engine has lock down and there were slug in the engine and I have been having my oil changes regularly and I had and oil change the day before my engine lock down on me. The dealership will not replace my engine so I had to pay the hold bill myself and also when they were replacing my engine they told me I my that I had a leak in my transmission so I had to replace that also and my fog lights went out on me within less than 6 months after I purchase my Durango I only put 24,000 miles on the Durango. I only had my Dodge Durango one year seven months. There are to many other Dodge Durangos with the same defects and the manufacturer.
