Equipment Problems of Dodge Durango - part 2

Backup camera stayed on when car was in drive, park, and neutral. Backup camera also stayed on after I turned vehicle off and opened door. The infotainment system usually turns off once car is parked off and door has been opened. This was very distracting when driving down the road. Went to the Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram dealership in lawrenceburg, in last year and was told that spoiler failed a recall inspection and needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, spoilers were on back order and would take several months to get in. A month or so later, my local body shop took my Dodge Durango to the Dodge dealership in batesville, in for repairs after someone ran into my vehicle while it was parked in a parking lot. The batesville dealership did another inspection for the spoiler recall and cleared the inspection stating that the spoiler passed inspection. So now I have one dealership (lawrenceburg, in) saying that there is a "gap" and that the spoiler in fact needs replaced, but that they can't fix it because they will not be reimbursed by Chrysler since the recall for my Durango has been "cleared" by the batesville, in Dodge dealership. After contacting the second dealership, they still claim that the spoiler is fine and refuse to fix it either. I admit, I don't know what I am looking for, but I also see a gap between the spoiler and where it is attached to the vehicle. It also seems to be loose. So, my question is, what exactly is the spoiler recall on 2021 Dodge Durango's? should I be concerned that it's not getting fixed? most importantly, who will be responsible if this thing comes off and injurers someone driving behind me?.

Bought a used 17 Durangogt on July 29th 2024 notice a crack in tail light and told the used car manager about it and brushed it off now there is an issue with racetrack light and water is getting in and is now half lite the dealer said there isn’t a problem so took it to Dodge and had a 2nd option and they said it was the crack and on top of that there is a class action lawsuit against Dodge for the track light and it can cause electrical issues and license plate light and rear camera issues this is unsafe and I got a invoice from Dodge of the issue too.

While driving to the store (with my son in the front passenger seat) all of a sudden, and for no apparent reason, the front passenger seat headrest popped (came forwards) striking him in the back of the head with substantial force stun him temporarily. The startled me. He had a headache for a couple hours afterwards.

While driving paved road noticed a cloud of smoke behind the vehicle. Immediately pulled to the side of the road and shut vehicle off. After checking under the vehicle found coolant leaking from the engine compartment, there was no coolant in the expansion tank either. Any driving would have resulted in engine destruction. Called a tow truck. After waiting on the side of the road for 5 hours for tow truck, vehicle was taken to the nearest dealer on the flatbed. At the dealer, technician stated, it is a frequent occurrence on this brand of the vehicle, and they are very familiar with repairing it. Dealership repair, exposed burst/hole, from inside out, in the coolant hose. Glad it did not happen in the winter; I might not be typing this message.

This past week our 2016 Dodge Durango citadel driver side headrest pop out during the night while parked overnight outside our house. My wife discover the pop out headrest the next morning when she open the door to drive to her work. We are unable to return the head rest to its original position.

Driver's active head restraint (ahr) deployed while driving the vehicle.

The driver side headrest "deployed" and pushed the headrest to the back of my head. I was sitting in the driver seat and the vehicle was parked, and when I moved a bag from the front passenger seat to the middle row, the driver side headrest opened on it's own. I cannot compress the headrest together. My concern is this was a faulty safety deployment.

My rear spoiler fell off going down the road, and was unable to find it.

On Sunday, July 14 at approximately 1:00 pm eastern standard time the front passenger active head restraint deployed. The vehicle was being operated at the time and was not involved in any sort of collision at the time of the deployment. Our local Dodge dealer provided me the number for the Dodge customer advocate group, who are not open on sundays. The passenger in the front passenger seat was struck in the back of the head when the rest deployed, causing headache, discomfort, and some nausea.

Clogged or leaking a/c drain hose. This hose is responsible for draining condensation from the a/c evaporator, the condensation pools in large quantity on the passenger floorboard. This constitute a hazard for the electrical systems near it and a risk of corrosion not to mention potential toxic mold and basically the car self flooding. A few videos document the issue and it is due to bad design where the drain hose is oriented upward and/or the seal blocking water from penetrating the passenger cabin is cracked or falls away in time. Sos emergency notification service does not work. Unable to call or be located if an accident or emergency occurs.

Just bought the vehicle two months ago and have had to replace multiple things on the vehicle. The first issue was the diming lights and passenger window rolling down while driving along with remote start not working got that fixed now the car wants to turn on when it feels like it. It could be working for two weeks straight then you go to turn the car on after just turning it off five minutes prior and it does not wanna work you mess with the wires, try to jumpstart the wires and unhook the passenger seat heat and adjuster then it starts. .

Start/stop feature says it is unavailable causing vehicle to not shut off when stopped as well as causing vehicle to give message saying start/stop feature unavailable due to hood open which then causes vehicle to shut off once stopped and requires vehicle to be shifted into park and restarted for message to come back on. This issue happens when driving and once stopped causes vehicle shut off in traffic causing huge safety concerns and issues.

Radio screen delaminated and randomly pushing buttons turning functions of the car on and off, adjusting the climate you can’t fix, calling people randomly. This is a very well known issue with these screens and should be a recall. Very distracting to the driver and you are unable to keep this from happening. Unable to control certain functions in the car. Has been delaminating for years but getting worse and more of a problem.

Leaking coolant lines above transmission.

The rear bolt which holds the automatic lift for the rear hatch broke off and is stripped. The trunk door is no longer being supported by the arm and is quite heavy. Every mechanic is unable to address the issue and this seems to be very common among this model of the car. The broken bolt is flushed against the frame of the vehicle. Passenger side active headrest deployed without warning. No lights/ alarms on dash display.

Car started leaking coolant underneath. The dealership told us the lines that control the rear heat are leaking. And it’s a major job. $ 3100. 00 we were told. The coolant lines are back ordered and have had it for over 5 weeks and still not fixed. That is ridicules for a vehicle with only 74k….

The rear taillights are taking in water and causing the lights to go out. This appears to be a systemic issue with Dodge Durango's as based on the fact of the high number people indicating the same issue on Dodge Durango facebook pages.

There is a design flaw with the coolant lines. The toh coolant line makes contact with the rear heater return line and creates a coolant leak in that area. Due to the friction this caused a hole in the line. My car gashed out coolant and shut off on the highway. Only one flash on the dashboard that said engine overheating. This issue is a design flaw that could be deadly. Luckily for myself I was traveling in the right line and had time to warn other drivers with hazards. Please investigate Dodge Durango vehicles for this seriously potentially deadly issue.

I was just driving then out of nowhere. No warning no lights inmitted on dash no idea the engine will shut off. Replace alternator, battery,starter,3 pcm,still no luck. Noticed that pcm could have been the so that's why I went through 3 of em. New ,use ,and refurbish one. The dealership mechanic noticed that pcm would shut off and henced (no bus) would illuminate. Happened quite often scary part is that no warning of any source would appear on freeway residential anywhere. Engine will shut off while driving.

When slowing down the fwc warning comes on and the vehicle completely shuts down. I have to put it in park and restart it. This is very unsafe, as it happens at intersections, turnpikes, sometimes when turning causing big safety issues and we are lucky has not caused a crash yet.

Sitting at drive through and driver headrest exploded and hit me in the back of the head. Thank god I was not moving at the time and my car was in park or I may have wrecked! startled me and I was dazed and confused because I couldn’t figure out what had happened! this just happened a few hours ago so I have not been able to report it or have it checked out. I did take several pictures. There were no warnings or anything and it just happened as I was sitting there! if I had been driving, it could have been catastrophic! my neck is sore and I have a headache.

Cooling system hose blew from a faulty clamp rubbing a hole in it. There’s a ton of reports of this same problem with the same model/year. All antifreeze leaked out and overheated engine.

While my wife was driving our vehicle when the tire monitor light came on the dash. She made it home and showed me the tire. I thought she might have ran over an object on the road then began putting air in the tire. The tire started to inflate and rise then there was a sudden loud bang. I took the tire off the vehicle and saw that the inside sidewall of the tire blew out.

The front passenger headrest sprung out and hit my husband in the back of the head while we were driving.

I'm reporting the race track tailgate light on my 2017 Durango has been taking in water from top of the light. I have been reading about a law suit against Dodge cause of this issue on 2014 thru 2023 Dodge Durango. So im putting my complaint in on my cause its doing the same thing. Part of the lower left side on mine has shorted out due to the water leaking from the top of the race track light.

The alternator suddenly failed with no warning lights or lamps indicating a problem. I was driving when the car suddenly stalled and I managed to get home . Heavy smoke was coming from under the hood and when I raised the hood heavy smoke was coming up out of the alternator and I could smell burning wires. I had it towed to elder Dodge and they confirmed that the alternator was burnt out and it fried the pcm and other electrical components. The safety issue was it could've caught the whole engine on fire and it could have caused a wreck with traffic behind us. I contacted the fca and sent all information that they requested for reimbursement but they refuse to reimburse me for a faulty alternator that short circuited and caught on fire. I am contacting you for help with this matter so they will reimburse me for damages done to my Durango.

When I am driving around out of nowhere it will try to go into low range when it is in auto awd and low light will flicker on the dashboard.

While driving down the road, the driver headrest popped open at random, thrusting my neck and head forward. Once parked, I saw that a plastic piece had broken that holds the headrest system together.

Vehicle was parked, orange red fluid was seen leaking from the vehicle in a large puddle. Dealership mechanic that found the failure as a factory install clamp that was placed too close to 2 rear coolant lines tube causing a hole in each line almost emptying the coolant all over the ground.
