Front Seat Belt Retractor Problems of Dodge Durango

Front and passenger seat belts severely frayed on 2000 Dodge Durango. Both belts are frayed in the same place(s) on belts. Believed to be caused by defective design of retractor assembly seat belt guide(s) attached to interior front door post. This creates a serious hazard to occupants due to loss of seat belt integrity. Problem reported to daimler Chrysler, was told this was a mechanical problem not covered under warranty.

June 16, 2005 - my son turned 17. June 23, 2005 - my son received a 2002 Dodge Durango as a gift. June 26, 2005 - my son's 2002 Dodge Durango's driver's seatbelt failed as he was exiting his father's driveway. June 28, 2005 - took Dodge in for failed seatbelt and was told via telephone that it would cost over $400. 00 to replace. I called manufacturer and complained, siting websites and cbs (2003) documentary about the continuing problems with this vehicle. One of them being the failed seatbelt. To quote "approximately 16 milion Dodge vehicles have a seat belt that does not pass the standard for accidental safety". Their response: well its' not under warranty and its not a recall, but I'll see what we can do. They are charging me a "CO-pay" of $75. 00 for a new complete replacement. Your government branch, the Dodge manufacturer and owners of this type vehicle are well aware that this is a manufacturer's defect. Could Dodge give me back my son if my son had been in an accident and lost his life because his Dodge Durango driver's seat belt failed!! when is NHTSA going to take a stand and tell the Dodge manufacturer to take care of their lemons. As far as the questions below, NHTSA knows better than I.

Passenger's side seat belt retractor failed. As a result, the passenger will not be restrained properly.

When my wife puts the seat where it is comfortable for her the back of the seat rubs against the seatbelt retractor, preventing it from retracting and leaving the belt loose.

Driver's side seat belt retractor malfunctioned. Recall 01v119000 was issued; however, this vehicle was not covered under the recall due to VIN.

Driver's rear seat belt will not retract from retractor. Dealer notified . Feel free to provide any further information.

Consumer is unable to have vehicle repaired under recall 01v119000 for seatbelt retractor due to parts not being available until further notice.

The lightweight locking latchplates have never locked properly. I must use locking clips in order to secure my car seats (becaues there is an emergency locking retractor). The seat belt fails the lockability standard and makes car seat installation very mr.

01 v 119 000/fmvss209/retractor: vehicle taken to dealer; nemer nwe country saratoga Dodge;saratoga, NY; phone# 518/584-7272)for recall appointment. Later on, learned that recall was not done. Dealer's only replied was that they did not get to it. Seeking assist from NHTSA in this matter. Feel free to provide any further informaton on this matter.

While traveling at 65 mph vehicle ran off the road and into a tree head-on, but seat belt did not work properlyand did not restrain consumer. Consumer was injured, and vehicle was totaled. Please provide more information.

Seat belt retractor on driver's side is sticking, and on passenger's side is completely jammed. Whole unit has to be replaced. Bumper to bumper waranty doesn't cover the problem.

Seatbelt fails to release when the release button is fully depressed.

Shoulder restraint fails to operate in cold temperatures (less than 25 degrees). Chrysler will not replace untill dealership can duplicate problem. Chrysler has been notified that this is unacceptable, due to unreliability of said seat belt. If seat belt will not retract, children will not have the means to be safely restrained in the vehicle.
