Manual Transmission Column Shift Problems of Dodge Durango

--- please--- NHTSA needs to expand recall notification to cover more vehicles. I have 2 Durangos, both have same problem described in recall notification # 69542. Dodge customer care hotline claims both of my vehicles (VIN 1b4hs48n82f161343 and 1b4hs38n82f183241) are not covered by this recall. Both of my vehicles exhibit same conditions described in recall notification. Recall id # 69542 - power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:column shift-- recall date: Dec 04, 2007-- model affected: 2002 Dodge Durango summary: vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, the ignition/park shift interlock system may become inoperative. This can allow the shifter to be moved out of the "park" position with the ignition key removed (or in the "lock" position). This can also allow the ignition key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the "park" position. Consequences: either of these conditions could allow the vehicle to roll away causing a crash without warning.

The contact owns a 2002 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle could not be shifted out of park. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN did not qualify for repairs under NHTSA campaign id number: 07v555000 (power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:column shift). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 178,433.
