7 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/16/2019

When filling the tank up with fuel, rather than stopping automatically, the nozzle clicks and fuel burps out onto the vehicle and the ground. This happens when stationary at a gas station filling up with fuel. I believe this may be the common issue with the fuel tank filler inlet check valve or fuel tank filler. Each are common recalls found on the NHTSA website under this specific vehicle.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/15/2019

When fueling with fuel at the end if not stooped regulatory to allow the fuel to empty into the tank the fuel will come out of the filling hole and keep going until you stop the fuel pump. Once you stop the fuel p[ump it will take about 3 sec to stop coming out but until then you will have about 1 quart to half a gallon of fuel all over the side of the Durango, tire, and ground.

When attempting to fill tank with gasoline, the pump constantly shuts off. I've attempted multiple gas stations and several people have tried filling the tank as well. Doesn't matter what the location/direction of the nozzle in the tank fill valve area. . . . You cannot fill the tank. I've taken the vehicle in 4 times to the dealership for repair and I am still unable to fill the tank. They have replaced the fuel nozzle, replaced the gas tank, replaced the filter & completely disassembled and reassembled the gas tank.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2007 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/03/2018

I just bought a used 2007 Durango and upon filling the gas tank up, the gas spewed out. Thought it might be that particular pump, but it always does this when filling up. Fuel spills out of filler neck when tank is filled. Very dangerous. Potential for some very bad things to happen.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

When filling the gas tank with auto shut off nozzle it will spit back a cup or more of gas when it shuts off. This is with vehicle standing still. It does it everytime with any fuel pump.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/15/2017

Upon filling the gas tank since the first time on June 15, 2017, and every time since then, the fuel always spits back, and all over the place, including on the gas attendant, upon any one walking by, on the car, and of course, on the ground. It may or may not be the fuel tank inlet check valve (fuel filler tube), but the dangerous safety issue remains. I have read that 20,000 Durangos have been recalled from 2005 for this issue, but for reasons unknown, even though my 2005 Durango also has this dangerous safety problem, I am told by the dealer that my 2005 Durango has not been recalled. If for some reason it has not been recalled, it obviously should be recalled because it has the same exact issue that the other 2005 Durangos have been recalled for. So why not mine?.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/02/2017

18 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

I can not put gas in the tank. The fuel neck was replaced twice because of the recall. That is not my problem. Very little gas goes in when you engage the fuel pump at the gas station maybe 10 or 12 ounces the the pump clicks off and stops filling. I try it again then slowly put gas in and the fill neck gets full because the tank will not let the gas in and it spits out the fill opening and on the car and ground. I was at costco and the attendant saw my problem and said I had to leave until I get the issue fixed. I was endangering others. I took it to doge were I have my work done and the two fill necks replaced and they said the tank is bad. It needs replaced. At the tune of $1200. 00 plus cost. More people than me have experienced this problem and I can not drive the car without gas. I had another mechanic check it out and said inside of the plastic tank that has a liner in it is coming apart inside which you can not repair caused from the ethonal content in gas has caused this issue. The liner is causing the flap inside the opening of the gas tank that the fuel inlet is attached to not to open and allow fuel to go in the tank. The car is too old to have to put this kind of cash in it when it is apearant that it is a defect in the tank which from on line says it is made in china. Again a bad combination china really!!!. I have already put a few thousand in it for transmission dip stick rust off in the check tube ,oil leaks ,trans slipping ,rear end leaking break calipers, and the list goes on. I have Dodge's since 2000 and Dodge has me as a second class citizen. I had 2000 intrepid 2 Dodge grand caravans and the Durango. Help please.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/05/2016

The fuel tank check valve has completely failed just like thousands of other Durangos. There is significant (12-16 ounces) gas blowback when the fuel reaches a near full level during refueling. I have tried stopping the pump several times to allow the fuel to settle, different brands of gas and different filler handle positions. The only thing that can prevent this is not filling the tank more than 3/4 full.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/14/2016

Gas comes spewing out of the tank when I'm filling up at the gas station. This only happens with I'm trying to "fill" the tank, at the end of the filling when the pump should stop due to the tank being full. It does not spew out if I'm just putting "some" gas in the tank. This happens at all gas stations so it seems as though this is an issue with the vehicle and not the pump. I've had this problem for several years and just found information on the NHTSA campaign number 09v003000 report receipt date 01/08/2009. This seems to be the same issue I'm having however I was told, today, that my VIN # is not included in the 2005 Dodge Durango vehicles listed in the recall. Safety recall number h45 - fuel tank inlet check valve. How do I go about possibly getting my vehicle added to the recall list for this issue? this has been an ongoing issue since I've owned the vehicle. I purchased it brand new in September of either 2004 or 2005.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/20/2016

When filling the fuel tank gas spews out the fill port once the tank is full.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/10/2016

My 05 Dodge Durango, which I am the only owner of, overflows gas while filling up the tank. I was told it is a recall, I called the local dealership to schedule an appointment to fix it, I was treated with absolute disrespect and was told my car was already fixed through the warranty, I assured them I was the only owner and it was never fixed, they again told me it was and they would not pay for it to get fixed again even if it is the same issue that the recall was for. I have had the gas overflow and spray all over me multiple times, including one time while I was holding my infant child. This is not ok and so beyond unsafe!!! it clearly wasn't fixed and I would like it fixed before someone gets hurt! the vehicle was off and parked. I also know multiple people with this same model and theirs do the same thing and all have rust eating through their vehicles on the panel under their gas tanks, was fixing that also in the recall since it is clearly due to the gas overflowing?.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/14/2016

Bought a used. 2006 Dodge Durango. First time wife filled tank fuel erupted from fill spout covering her head to foot in gas. Next week I tried filling tank. Again fuel spewed from the filler neck. The pump shuts off automatically then boom. 1/2 to 1 gallons of gasoline is on the ground, side of vehicle and myself. We can only put partial tanks of gas in at a time. As with all refueling trips the vehicle was parked, engine off, sitting beside the pump. The 2005 Durangos were recalled. Why not this year also. Dealer claims warranty work was completed and will only look at vehicle if they charge a fee. This is a vehicle " checked out " by dealer before sale. Apparently they don't care about our safety or the hazard to the environment when close to a gallon in fuel gets dumped on the ground every time it's filled.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that when filling the tank with fuel, the fuel pump would not automatically stop as intended. As a result, fuel overflowed and leaked from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the shut off valve was faulty and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 99,000.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Tl the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While the contact was filling the fuel tank, fuel spilled out. The contact was not able to complete filling the tank. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Bender Chrysler Dodge Jeep (3400 mabry dr, clovis, nm 88101, (575) 762-4511) replaced the fuel check valve. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was 190,000.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2008 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/23/2015

Vehicle was stationary at a filling station fuel pump with engine off. When the filling pump nozzle shuts off back pressure from the vehicles fuel tank forces a stream of gasoline back out of the fill neck. This happens every time the fuel tank is filled. I have read that this is a common problem in several Chrysler vehicles caused by a faulty check valve in the fuel tank.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2007 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/18/2015

Fuel comes out after filling tank. This is ridiculous and so very dangerous. I can tell its gone on a while with my rig cause paint is all wearing away by fuel spout. I see this is a huge complaint for lots of people. Can't believe Dodge won't fix situation. They need to wait for death or serious injury first. I will be getting rid of mine as soon as I can and I will never ever buy another Dodge. All the stories I've heard about Dodge are true. This is my first and last one I will ever own. I have many issues besides this. But this is the most serious one. So far. Terrible. Way to care about your product Dodge and the people who drive them.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2015 Dodge Durango

Fuel spits out when filling the gas tank up, it doesn't know when the tank is full.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/03/2015

When filling the fuel tank, gasoline shoots out of the tank once the tank is full and after the pump handle has detected the tank being full and has shut off. I understand from talking to the local dealer, Chrysler customer service and many comments on the internet that Chrysler recalled certain 2005 Durango's made in specific plants with specific parts. I was told by the dealer and by Chrysler customer service that our Durango was not recalled. I don't understand why only certain vehicles were recalled when others with the same issue were not recalled. This is a real safety concern for us. Gasoline gets on us and our clothes our skin and on the ground. Could start fire if a spark was nearby. A new tank cost $1300 plus labor which we can't afford. Please help us stay safe.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2008 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/25/2015

When filling up the gas tank, I had some fuel leak out when I was finished pumping, probably a half gallon at least. It then runs down the side of the vehicle causing a fire threat. This has happened at multiple gas stations.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/28/2015

While filling the fuel tank, when the pump kicks off fuel spits back out of the fuel tank on the ground, the vehicle, and me (if I am standing close). I have found numerous complaints and conversations on the internet regarding this problem. Some are referenced below: NHTSA investigation #rq08005 led to recall #09v003000 NHTSA reference #10051769: TSB #sb-14-002-13; customer satisfaction campaign #csc-10051769-3696 warranty bulletin #d-13- subject: (x48) fuel tank inlet check valve (fuel filler tube) purpose of bulletin: to announce an extended warranty on the fuel tank inlet check valve on 2005-2006 Dodge Durango vehicles stating: "this warranty extension coverage is unlimited time and miles. " I took my vehicle to benchmark-Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-ram, 1313 grants mill way, birmingham, alabama 35210, (205) 957-1313 for this problem. They advised me up front that I would be charged $105 to diagnose the vehicle, but that I would be reimbursed if the problem was covered under any recalls or warranties. After the diagnosis they said they needed to start by replacing the filler neck and if that does not fix the problem they would need to replace the fuel tank. They said this would not be covered under the lifetime warranty nor the recall for this problem. After leaving benchmark I had to fill up the vehicle and I videoed the fuel spit-back when the pump shut off. I feel that this is a serious safety issue and it is documented that they have acknowledged that this year and model vehicle has a problem, but they do not want to take responsibility for correcting the problem.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/30/2014

As I was refueling I noticed in the pump that it was at 29 gallons but it was still filling up and my tank wasn't empty so right away I knew something was wrong and looked on the bottom that it was spilling all the gas I'm thinking from the inside of the filler neck or hose but from under the car so something is wrong because it didn't stop filling up, thx.

33 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/27/2014

I was filling up my gas tank when the car started spitting out gas at me. Luckily I stopped it fast enough but had some gas on me and all over the side of my car. I've looked this up and it seems to be a big problem with the Durangos. I really would like to fill my car up without worrying about being covered in gas or my car starting to rust.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

Every time I went to fill the gas tank it had a delay overflow . Started out with about a cup of gasoline and then increased to about 3/4 of a pint and this is even when filling very slowly. I checked online and found that there had been a recall on Durango's in 2005 for gas tanks overflowing because of a defective check valve. When I contacted the dealer he said that recall did not apply to my VIN number?. I do not see how that can be. I have owned many cars over 40 years and never had one overfill the fuel tank and splash all over you.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

When refueling the vehicle and filling the tank to full or near full, when the fuel nozzle shuts off automatically, fuel will spray out of the filler neck all over the side of the vehicle and all over the ground and the driver. Approximately 1/3 to 1/2 gallon of fuel will be expelled from the tank. This started after I had about 75000 miles on the vehicle. It will happen every time I fill the car up. As a result I can only fill the tank about 3/4 full. The fuel has destroyed the paint on the side of the car. I have had to drive 20 miles home soaked in gasoline after this has happened. I'm glad no one flipped a cigarette in my direction!.
