36 Power Train problem of the 2011 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/04/2023

While driving without notice transmission light flashes and the 2011 Dodge Durango will not shift out of gear. I have had this problem in the past and told dealer but they always say they have no codes and on test drive cant confirm the issue. The first time it happened was around the 50 000 mile mark I thought nothing of it back then as I restarted the car it went away. Over the years it go worst to the point that it would happen at least once or multiple times during my daily commute it I told the dealership about it but no codes and they said on a test run no problems. I stopped driving the car in 2019 because it was too dangerous to drive daily especially in traffic due to the car unable to shift gears left me stranded in the middle of the freeway many times waiting to restart car and car would behave normal until the transmission light comes on where I have to power off Durango and restart where ever it happens freeway stop signs lights or where ever it decides to happen. I want to get this car running again but dont have the money to fix an issue that I had when it was still covered by the extended warranty and now I have to pay out of pocket because im over the milage so this car has been sitting and I feel as I been ripped off because of al the issues. Im end up dying in this thing if I take it out. Ive donr the recalls and now I see another recall for the same issue that they said they fixed is been reissued im certain all of the issues is tied to the computer unit it I already had one replaced in this car because when I took it for the alternator issue when the car just died with no warning they told me it was fried. All the recall issues that have been mandated are all the issues I had car stalling not starting battery dead and drained fuel relay power module no power how is this not a lemon. This car is a saftey issue on so many levels. Im now trying to get this car running and im still having the same issues I have 129000 miles on it now.

38 Power Train problem of the 2019 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/07/2023

The vent tube leading to the transmission came disconnected and sucked up water into my transmission. Leading to the transmission to not have any power. My son and I were in the the car trying to go up the hill when it lost power and started rolling backwards down the hill into traffic with the gas pedal to the floor. The mechanic at Dodge said he has no idea how the vent tube was able to suck up that much water into the transmission. There was no lights that came on about the vent tube until it was too late and even then the check engine light would go on and off every time the car was turned off. The car is un drivable and currently at jt Dodge land in columbia SC. I have notified my insurance to see if this is something that would be covered l.

39 Power Train problem of the 2012 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/20/2023

I bought this vehicle second hand and was not warned of any recalls. I started having problems in April of 2023. Windshield wipers would turn on by themself, car would randomly shut off. I brought to several shops and nobody could figure out why it was reading “high voltage”. The car then started having occasional problems shifting. I eventually got on mopar website to be made aware there were 3 recalls and alternator was one of them. I called musson patout Dodge in new iberia, la and made an appointment to fix my car. On the morning of our appointment the car died in the road on the way to Dodge and wouldn’t restart without a jump. I brought it in and over the son of 3 days the fixed all the recalls. On my way to pick it up they called and made me aware it would need a new battery I told them I will go replace it as soon as I get the car. Since I picked up the car the shifting problems have not stopped. I have had a code reading “implausible data from tcm”. I have had a mechanic tell me this recalled alternator going out is what cause this tcm to go out and musson refuses to take it in and even diagnose it without over $170 that I don’t have to spend anymore. This is consequential damage that Dodge should be held liable for and they are giving me the most difficult time, it’s my only vehicle for me and my 2 kids and I cant even drive it anymore.

43 Power Train problem of the 2017 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/05/2023

While I was merging onto the freeway with my daughter, I accelerated to a speed of 60 mph and it felt like my transmission dropped. My car was revving at 5k rpm’s and would not allow me to go any faster than 45 mph. Luckily no accident occurred as I was able to safely get my child and myself off the freeway. I now have a service appointment scheduled with Dodge to see why this happened. But after ready these other complaints, I now see this is a potential recall! hopefully my warranty covers this repair….

44 Power Train problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/02/2023

This vehicle will slip in and out 4 wheel drive on its own. This can occur when driving and I’m concerned it will create a dangerous situation, especially if driving at high speeds. When this issue is occurring, making tight turns (parking, neighborhood driving) becomes very dangerous as the wheels become locked and you have to press the accelerator down creating a lot of power and the vehicle becomes dangerously uncontrollable. This is very common while parking, when often pedestrians are present and the vehicle becomes unpredictable due to this issue. This will also occur at a 2 way stop when turning right in front of on-coming traffic. The vehicle will again be unpredictable and can’t turn smoothly impairing traffic coming from behind.

45 Power Train problem of the 2020 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/07/2023

The contact owns a 2020 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the "service shifter" message displayed on the instrument panel. The contact then stated that while driving at 65 mph, several messages appeared on the instrument panel and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact used excessive force to steer the vehicle off to the shoulder of the highway. The contact also stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a defective shifter control module. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was 29,980.

46 Power Train problem of the 2017 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/25/2023

While driving, the transmission gave out. There was no prior indication of any issue - no warning light and no different noise. The car wouldn't change gears, which was an extremely dangerous situation in traffic. This transmission is "supposed" to be so good that there isn't a way to even check the transmission oil - there is no dipstick. Dodge claims that the oil doesn't need to be checked, it is that good. Howerver, after the failure and having it towed to the dealer, the report was that the transmission was was black! how is a consumer supposed to be able to check a basic, required fluid with no dipstick? there isn't a way to have any preventative check on the transmission, yet it just fails without warning? there are at least two design flaws that compromise safety - no way to check the transmission oil, and the transmission completely going out without so much as an engine light coming on first. I purchased the car new, and it only has 70,000 miles on it - a transmission should not have black fluid and go out with that little use.

47 Power Train problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/10/2023

50 Power Train problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/17/2023

My 2005 Durango all of a sudden has decided to stall while driving . I've bought this vehicle almost 2 years ago, and this is by far the scariest experience I've had in it. The first time it happened was as I was slowing down to stop at a red light on January 17th. Since then it has been stalling one at least 3 to 5 times a week . Something isn't right. I did receive a code from my milewise ins obd reader today, that said p1794 urgency unknown - contact your mechanic . That's one of 3 I got . The other two are p 0700 transmission control system ( mil request ) urgent - have checked ASAP and - p0430 catalyst system efficiency below threshold. Urgent - have checked ASAP this tells me something is seriously wrong and it's going to cost me a fortune. Which for me is impossible to even try to contemplate. I am disabled and my income is not enough. I can not afford to fix this, nor can I afford to buy something else. This is a real problem that I can't afford and it should have been fixed before when it was brought to your attention back in 2005.

Every time I start my 2020 Dodge Durango I hear and feel a hard shift into reverse. No transmission fluid loss, just increasingly louder & feeling if the shift change. ***vehicle started this @ 20,000 miles and only has 32,000 on it now.

55 Power Train problem of the 2022 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/02/2022

This is a dangerous random problem. In fact has now occurred 6 times. Two separate times 08/23/22 & 10/18/22 at a parking lot, while backing up, the gear shifter lit up, locked, and could not be engaged, and it wouldn't move. Both these 2 times it could not be put in drive and after shutting off the engine, it would not restart. The vehicle was blocking access and other vehicles passage for over an hour each time. The other 3 times the vehicle was moving and it just jumped into neutral with no warning, the cluster flashed messages saying to place gear shifter in park and then back to drive and proceed to acquire service. When this happens, it requires you come to a complete stop which can be really put you in harms way. The cluster lights flashed with warning messages in all of the situations. It happened to me twice 10/24/22 after leaving the dealer on the way home, the service engine light illuminated and remained on. The dealer's service rep said multiple codes were detected by the reader. When we brought it in to the dealer the first time 10/20/22, a total of 27 malfunction codes were in the system. How can that be and not be something serious? the powertrain control module was replaced, but when it happened again 2 more times on Monday, less than 15 min. Apart, that didn't fix it. Same thing occurred yesterday that occurred five other times but put us in a dangerous situation. This time we were on a busy four-lane road sr 200 a1a in a 45 mile an hour zone and the vehicle just stopped in the middle of the road lane, locked up we could not move it and it could not be pushed off the road. We were a sitting duck for oncoming traffic and several cars almost failed to stop when approaching us. We have had it less than 3 months and it only has 1700 miles. We are unsafe driving it as this happens randomly and we don't know when or where. If this happens on the interstate or a large bridge we could be killed.

57 Power Train problem of the 2017 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/24/2022

When driving on the freeway I went to accelerate the car then begin to accelerate by itself even when I was hitting the brakes it would not slow down. Finally after a few seconds it slowed down. About a week after that started feeling like the transmission was having issues. Now I cannot drive my car. And this happened about three times with the acceleration of the car doing that by itself.

58 Power Train problem of the 2021 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/20/2022

The transmission slips during initial acceleration and causes the driver to dangerously accelerate ahead unexpectedly. This has been occuring since I purchased the vehicle in July of 2021.

59 Power Train problem of the 2012 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/19/2022

Upon approach to a left turn yield, I attempted to accelerate into traffic when the automatic transmission failed into 4th gear ( transmission shift solenoid) and was unable to shift up or down through the gears and was unable to shift into the drive position. There were no other indications of failure prior to this point, I. E no engine or transmission warning lights. If there would have been oncoming traffic at the time of entry into the flow of traffic it may have caused a catastrophic rear end accident due to the vehicle inability to accelerate as usual. Will have the vehicle serviced immediately. This has happened once before with the same vehicle approximately 2 years ago and the transmission shift solenoid was the issue and had been replaced by a local service center at the time.

64 Power Train problem of the 2022 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/23/2022

On Saturday, 04/23/2022, the Dodge Durango ran fine. I was able to back out of my driveway without incident around 12:00 pm and go to walmart. I drove to the sheetz gas station from walmart and topped off the fuel tank because we wanted to take a family trip during the weekend. At 12:40 pm, I arrived back home, turned off the engine, and went inside my house to pick up my son. We entered the vehicle around 12:50 pm. I put my seatbelt on, put my foot on the brake pedal, and pushed the engine start button. Then I placed the vehicle in reverse, released the parking brake, and slowly backed my foot off the brake pedal. This time around, the vehicle did not drive backward normally like it's supposed to, but hesitated like it didn't have any power (NHTSA complaint 11461953). The engine hesitated several times, the rpms dipped under 500 more than once, and then when I almost got to the street, the engine died, and the vehicle stalled. The transmission placed itself into the park position (automatic park), and I could hear and feel the driveline clunk when the parking pawl locked the transmission. The "r" led started flashing on the gear shifter. I put my foot on the brake, and moved the lever from the "r" to the "n" position. The "n" position was still flashing, indicating that the vehicle is not really in "n". Then I pushed the engine start button to completely turn off the vehicle as the "run" led was flashing, but instead, the engine turned back on. Without taking the foot off the brake pedal I moved the shift lever from "n" to "r" and heard a loud clunk and even felt it. It sounded and felt like there was a lot of pressure on the parkin pawl and it got barely released. I am concerned that the vehicle stalling might have damaged the parking pawl somehow. I don't feel safe driving this vehicle. This is very difficult to reproduce as the vehicle exhibits this behaviour randomly, however I am concerned for my safety and my family's safety while traveling in this vehicle.

65 Power Train problem of the 2022 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/22/2022

On Friday, 04/22/2022, at 5:30 pm, I remote-started the vehicle, and let it run for 5 minutes, then my wife and I entered the vehicle. I put my foot on the brake pedal, pushed the engine start button to unlock all vehicle functions, and put my seatbelt on. I placed the vehicle in reverse. Then I released the parking brake and backed off the brake pedal. My driveway is slightly sloped downwards towards the garage doors, around three degrees and around five degrees or less where it connects to the street. This vehicle has enough power to back out of my driveway without pushing the gas pedal while in reverse. However, the Dodge Durango in this report barely moved, then stopped, so I gave it a bit more gas. The engine kept hesitating with the rpm needle going under the 500 rpm mark several times. I managed to back it to the end of the driveway. However, the vehicle was struggling. I then put in drive and moved forward. It moved forward without any issue. I pulled up to the garage door and entirely stopped. With the foot on the brake pedal, I placed the vehicle back in reverse, and it struggled again like it didn't have any power. The rpms dipped under 500 several times until I managed to back the vehicle out into the street. I then put it in drive, and the vehicle ran fine and didn't repeat this behavior until the next day.

70 Power Train problem of the 2011 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/22/2021

While at speed, the fcw light goes off and the vehicle looses the ability to accelerate. I usually have to pull over, shut down the vehicle, and restart it to continue. I have had all of the recalls completed as soon as possible, and the last one was completed several years ago. Similar things happened previously with this car but seemed to be fixed by recalls. This has only started happening again recently, say within the last month or two, and is happening with greater frequency.
